It's really fun to watch this kind of game. Like Dwarf Fortress, complex games are interesting but often intimidating and us viewers probably gave up a lot. If you know the game well, watching you play will let us enjoy it like we wouldn't, with you as our guide
Both can be excellent story telling games, there are some parts of CDDA that can be boring and monotonous, Lime could literally survive forever at this farm by clearing the immediate area of threats and nothing will migrate in. Cows produce an insane amount of milk last I heard. But the main fun of the game is exploration with base building being a kind of wind-down reward after the loot run. xD

Yeah, the game has a large learning curve mostly due to the appearance. If you play the game, you know what the menus are and such, but for the uninitiated its gibberish. xD
@@PerfectDeath4 It was gibberish to me too, at first. Cataclysm is such a far cry from PZ, I had to watch some tutorial videos just so I could fight more than one zombie at once and not die haha.
The key to getting good with CDDA is understanding that it's a game with small numbers, and so every tiny boost matters, a lot. -1 to attack and a speed penalty from the enemy standing in a bush or pit as they fight? That will save your life. Feeling out the turn order, how many moves you get before the zombie swings so you can try to fast-step away. Even something like slightly slower movement for better armor(and thus getting hotter) is an agonizing choice in this game. If you want to play it easier, give yourself more starting stats, and average character is 8 across the board, 10s in all stats will be rather good, 12 average can start looting the moment they handle a cudgel. And don't be afraid to go far, far away from your starting shelter.
@@Pr1vateLimeI love the way you do these CDDA Videos, always keeping it active, other RUclipsrs who do CDDA Videos always keep it chill and boring. Your format is the best honestly.
There's a new stable that's going to release eventually. You might want come back to it. That ending... Truly a CDDA moment. You shouldn't have walked onto the counter, that probably made a bad situation into a worse one.
Yeah, that fight against the cunning feral was in a VERY bad position, he has 1 extra tile of reach and you walked onto the cupboards which gave you a big movement point penalty letting that feral hit you a lot for free. They are an enemy type that counters the obstacle strategy so if you don't have enough reach you want to fight them in the open and run 1 tile in to strike, they will avoid bad terrain too. The safe runs can be quite slow as you spend a lot of time crafting, fight 1-2 zombies, rest, and craft some more. While challenging for the player I always see some viewers get bored. Combat focused characters that focus mostly on looting everything rather than crafting are a lot more active. My usual combat character start is lumberjack with plenty of strength and combat focused perks. Then I try to start with the Barbaran Monte martial art for lots of armor pen with the axe. Lets me start swinging right at the start and the build doesn't even need a better weapon even when facing tougher enemies except for some like electric and acid ones.
Cool build! I used to love starting as a lumberjack, when the game had points I think it only cost 1 and it was an easy pick just for that axe! Haha I'm picturing a warrior-monk esque lumberjack sequestered in the woods learning a martial art for his chopper

I'd love to see a detailed series about this game where Lime dissects how it works. Is it even theoretically possible to survive indefinitely? Like in PZ if you manage a certain level of sustainability you know you could survive as long as you wanted to, but in this game I dunno. How the heck do you even fight constantly spreading fungus? Giant fires? Even a video just explaining some basic strategies would be good!
This game goes extremely in-depth. And yes. For the fungus, fire is the best enemy as they're flammable and weak to it. Including that wasp nest, throw a Molotov and you'll see it burn up extremely quickly. And I'll be honest, fire is the answer to almost anything. Hordes of zombies in a town you want to loot? Burn a house down and let them crawl to the sounds of it collapsing. Make sure to smash them so they don't come back after it's all done burning. (the ones that aren't under the rubble!)
@@rocker_kitty3807 Oh and yeah! You can continuously survive in this game. Granted with extremely tough variants of the infected. I will have to say that IF you are interested. Check out Vormithrax and TheMurderUnicorn's tutorials on this game.
Yes, it's possible to survive indefinitely. To be honest, I disagree with Lime about the whole "This is how you died" vibe, CDDA doesn't really go that way, specially in gameplay terms. Fungus can be dealt with with fire but players usually avoid them or use a mod that slows their spread. I really recommend you try to play it, WormGirl and Vormithrax have really good tutorials and if you're not a hardcore roguelike enjoyer, you can debug/spawn anything to make your gameplay less tedious or hard, and you can even cheese permadeath by disabling autosave and alt f4 before you die...

Sure I'd love to see more. This game has gotten even more complex and difficult since the last build I played so seeing Lime learn how to overcome it should be fun.
I have the most hours in this game then any other so here is some advice on combat: always use melee weapons with ability's (cudgel, bat, sword ect.) they are SUPER usful because it means you can take on 1-2 zombies without even getting hit with stun locking the zombies, if you are on a newer experimental version grabs have been changed and are much more powerful, if you get surrounded, EVEN IF YOU HAVE HIGH TEIR GEAR, you ARE DEAD. also press + to check your armor, if any are yellow you will get a lot more encumbrance because its like you are wearing two things on the same "layer". Also you can talk to npc's to make "CAMPS" where you can send them to do things for calories and some risk depending on the task. These are the things that not even i knew for way longer then i should have and i wish i would have known them sooner, because these things are game changers.
More CDDA!!! Love Zomboid and absolutely love the Kenshi content, and enjoyed the Dead Zone stuffs, haven't been all that interested in urge or interloper series. When someone knows the game well enough, it makes for a very fun thing to watch, especially when inventory management etc is sped-up. I say sped-up so that people like me can pause it and see how things are done in the game.
CDDA is actually how I got into these types of games and would love to see a whole series! I was surprised that a bit of the project zomboid players don't play this, especially since there is a CDDA start in zomboid
Good luck, the longest I lasted here was 83 in-game days. I survived by focusing on mechanic and lucking out on an almost unbroken RV that had Solar Panels. Had to first convert that into an immobile home, and redirect the charging to just 1 large battery. Got even more lucky and found a beat up solar-powered car and took all the panels from those, even the slightly broken ones as they can still generate energy. Had to then dig underground to create my very own underground freezer. For those who want to try and survive longer: 1) Go to the grocery first to get a chance of getting a grocery cart. Looting becomes easy with that. 2) Eat perishables first. 3) Don't drink fruit juices or eat fruits or pumpkin. If you can keep them long enough without spoiling, do so because they will be your source of vinegar for pickling and preserving things. Vinegar and jars are your best friend. 4) Alternatively, if you found the recipe for it, make dehydrated meat/fish/eggs/fruits/vegetables. They increase your stockpile on food. 5) Never kill animals that you can tame. Having two of opposite gender animals (just same animals of no gender) of the same kind beside each has a chance to cause breeding. Having a pet carrier and short rope makes this easier. (Pet carrier for catching wilds, and short rope for tying up tamed) 6) If you want to dabble into breeding, always do this in an enclosed space. Baby animals newly born have a tendency to flee as they are considered "wild". To tame animals, use cat food/dog food/ bird feed/fooder. Either found in pet stores or barns, alongside pet carriers. 7) Trapping an eyebot in an area where only one side is viewable(via glass) and allowing yourself to get photographed will spawn a robot. This is a good unlimited source generator for steel and other mechanical parts. Only do this if you have rubber gear on you or if you have a gun and have decent shooting. 8) Easy mode is mutating into a Rat Man, as this allows you to consume zombie meat. 9) If the basement's size doesn't fit the house size, 80% of the time, it means there is a hidden room. 10) If you want a good source of stone and other building materials as well as killing as large amount of zombies, choose a house you wish to burn down, clear out a building that is in front of that house (preferably separated by a road) Proceed to burn down the target building and just hang around the building you cleared out earlier. The noise will alert zombies to the burning building and the aftermat will yield hundreds for debri, stone, and other building materials; as well as lots of zombie corpses that you still need to smash.
If we associate them as if they were board games managed by a computer, the ideas become incredible. I particularly came across Cataclysm DDA after months of Dwarf Fortress and years of Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup. And they're all still a lot of fun to this day!
I love how complex the game is, It's not too difficult to understand to me but to new people, it can seem overwhelming. I recommend they still try it if they're interested because it's really easy to play if you bind your keyboard to your liking, it's just the enemies and elements that will be tricky to get around.
Lime: Now the way we deal with these hordes is the same way we deal with them in Zomboid, right? Me: Fence cheese? Lime: Lead them in... and use obstacles to hinder their movement and their combat abilities so I can land a critical hit. Me: Yeah, we're on the same page, here.
I’ve played this game since the beginning, when it was a community post driven development on bay12games, through kickstarter and more. A true open source wonder. Playground town map tiles and a few bars are my ancient additions:). The sprite work keeps improving over years.
I would love a full let’s play/ how to guide by Mr. Lime I have always loved watching him play this game- but upon trying it myself I get far to overwhelmed lol
Don't forget about the Drag mechanic when you can pull loot on the floor up and down stairs and levels. You don't necessarily -need- a personal inventory at the start to move things around.
CDDA is the reason I kind of cant play other zombie survival games ... because everytime I do I think "man I could just play CDDA instead" and then I spent two days updating the game and trying to get mods to work again...
@@justthere845 too many systems interacting with each other and it's all volunteer work so I doubt it'll be any good. Imagine building a city then throwing another city on top of it. Good old CCDA, I'd love to see more. The minute I saw that feral I knew it was a downhill slide. It had the reach advantage wit a spear and was wearing makeshift armour too. Spears are a solid starter weapon in CCDA. Although to be fair, you did go loot to make content prioritizing it over the survival bit. :P Which I respect. Also you started nude so that was also a tough start. XD
Fungals _and_ wasps right at the start? Wow, Trash was cursed from the get-go. Still, that was a good showcase, and more CDDA is always fun. A series wouldn't be a bad idea, and based on the Zomboid themed runs you've done there's more than enough options both setting and mod wise to spice things up.
I always enjoy cdda as a long time player. It's not a extremely hard game if you have in-game knowledge of what to look for for loot or for what to craft. But with a fungal sprout that close I would have found the first thing to set on fire and left for a different town
One thing you forgot to mention was all of the challenge modes you can start with. Shower victim survivor is sort of a light challenge if you're new... but we all know how much worse it can be XD
Stepping onto the counter was what killed you, they have a higher move cost like the boulders you dragged zombies onto. That particular enemy can attack from an extra tile away so you should have stood one tile from the counter and then sprinted up to attack
For those that are overwhelmed by learning the keyboard shortcuts of cdda, and got an at least mid range mobile device, this game has been ported to android. Controls cant get any more comfortable and userfriendly than on android imo.
CDDA is basically dwarf fortress + zomboid. Truly the worse the graphics the more in depth the gameplay. Maybe thats why my life just consists of going to work and sitting on my phone all day D:
This is interesting. I'd love to see more of CDDA. Though granted, I like Zomboid videos more. Still This is very enjoyable. I still need to catch up on some of the Vintage Story videos.
Also a word of advice, the undead are slower than you. A weak character should use a fast weapon and kite them rather than slug it out with them. Pain and injuries don't affect the undead, so you aren't going to win a war of attrition. But a piercing weapon that can bleed them out will certainly help.
Death due to you standing on that counter. Counters like that consistently slow down/hinder your action rate. Learning the game is a long curve but makes good content.
"I want to get a jump on them!" - procedes to move onto a counter tile, wasting like 400 moves and thus eating 3 spear jabs before is able to attack. Yeah... You probably not the most adept at this game's combat at this moment.
0:37 "All the way to game's crafting system which is by far the best I've seen yet" *shows a in progress sling somehow messing up and being destroyed, leaving nothing behind* Bruh 😐, and don't even get me started on water somehow being destroyed...

6) If you want to dabble into breeding, always do this in an enclosed space.
I love your CDDA content, dude
Keep making great videos
I really love watching this game! Please keep it coming with more cool scenarios and Trash!
Absolutely love it when you do CDDA content :)
Nice, CDDA looks awesome, would be great to see the whole series :)
I’ve played this game since the beginning, when it was a community post driven development on bay12games, through kickstarter and more. A true open source wonder. Playground town map tiles and a few bars are my ancient additions:). The sprite work keeps improving over years.
I would LOVE to see more CDDA, I always heard about the game but was intimidated to try it, this actually made me want to
Cant wait to see more CDDA Love
Would Love to see more CDDA related Content from you! I think it's a nice variety of content with PZ
CDDA is the type of game I wouldn't even attempt to mod unless it's one of the builtin mods. I learned that lesson the hard way with rimworld.
@@YTDeletes90PercentOfMyComments what happened?
@@justthere845 too many systems interacting with each other and it's all volunteer work so I doubt it'll be any good. Imagine building a city then throwing another city on top of it. Some buildings might survive having another building on top of them, some won't, some rubble might hit a water line and you'll have to spend hours finding what's causing a memory leak. No longer are you playing the game, you're playing the game of getting the game to work.
CDDA is one of my favorite video series that you make, always sad they're one off episodes!
Honestly i just started playin cataclysm with 150hrs in with magicalysm mod focus , its absolutely epic , like Kenshi , when you be a beginner you get your shit pushed in a lot and fail mostly but when you got a grip on it , 10% of the time in cdda world , you be straight chillin
XD
I'd definitely like to see a full series of this game!
Always like CDDA play-throughs in these edited 20 minute formats!
Would love to see a play through for sure !
You should definitely do another episode, or a miniseries if you were inclined. Very fun to watch!
Would love to see you start doing series/challenges of CDDA!
I must say I would be interested in seeing a series on this ^^
I love playing this game.
surviving a day in cataclysm is quite easy. Unless you start in the city. Then things get extra nutty.
This game is awesome. Please post more.
Ol3 Limey is play CDDA now. Nice.
Maybe the cockroach was a good luck charm, in that it led you to a nice food store, but then you killed it and all the luck went away... :P
Babe wake up new lime man cdda video
I always enjoy cdda as a long time player. It's not a extremely hard game if you have in-game knowledge of what to look for for loot or for what to craft. But with a fungal sprout that close I would have found the first thing to set on fire and left for a different town
Please play more of this!
"The first thing we'll do is open every blind so that the evac shelter is lit"
Ah, this will be a quick one.
Always down to see more cataclysm players, if you turn this into a series I'll be watching.
I remember one time i opened up a single curtain and there was a fucking corpse pit next to the evac shelter. The npc shot a gun and i died instantly.
@@thatguy5391 That's -XCOM- -Rogue- Cataclysm Baby!
wtf else would he do, how else are you supposed to get cloth at the beginning without cutting up curtains
I like this style somehow. More please!
I see this didnt do as well as your other videos, but i hope youll play more. It looks fun and I know I'll be trying it
I audibly said "yay!" when i saw trash in cdda again
Would love to see more of this
The only time i played this i was an illiterate peasant that found a working tractor, crashed it and died 😂😅
Whats up with the little green icon thing?
Interesting to see what inspired the CDDA Challenge in Project Zomboid now.
I'm hoping for a series that can get to some of the later game stuff. Claudette: Dark Days Ahead?
I love CDDA man
What tileset are you using? It looks like a roughed down version of MSX+ with UltiCa.
That's it. Chibi_Ultica. Comes shipped with the game.
For those that are overwhelmed by learning the keyboard shortcuts of cdda, and got an at least mid range mobile device, this game has been ported to android.
Controls cant get any more comfortable and userfriendly than on android imo.
cool game with such vibes, would be neat to see more of it :33
gives me neo-scavenger vibes but much more complex
Trash? Thats a "Return of the Living Dead" reference, isn't it?
CDDA is basically dwarf fortress + zomboid. Truly the worse the graphics the more in depth the gameplay. Maybe thats why my life just consists of going to work and sitting on my phone all day D:
That's basically just DND
@@ADcommenter holy moly you're onto something
LMAO famus last words "were going to push it just a TINY bit further :). Overconfidence #1 killer
Yea I would like to see more of this game.
yes please make a full series
it would be cool to see a series of this game but maybe after the 2 already started seriesses with grub and bartholomeo
You should try the innawood challenge. I feel like thats right up your alley.
i really liked this game i want to see more of this content
Death due to you standing on that counter. Counters like that consistently slow down/hinder your action rate.
Learning the game is a long curve but makes good content.
Loveing this episode
ooo a cow, a rare find, you can milk it and make cheese, if you didn't die haha.
any chance you could make a tutorial on this game? it would be helpful.
"I want to get a jump on them!" - procedes to move onto a counter tile, wasting like 400 moves and thus eating 3 spear jabs before is able to attack.
Yeah... You probably not the most adept at this game's combat at this moment.
I would enjoy a CDDA series, try the "shower victim + heroin addict + underweight" combo next time for extra fun. xd
0:37 "All the way to game's crafting system which is by far the best I've seen yet" *shows a in progress sling somehow messing up and being destroyed, leaving nothing behind*
Bruh 😐, and don't even get me started on water somehow being destroyed...
I'm definitely down for you to do a cdda run, I enjoyed watching the backrooms one you did a while ago.
So are you actually going to do the followup this time?
