The Little Mermaid is the beloved story of Ariel, a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure. The youngest of King Triton's daughters and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea and, while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden from interacting with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land but ultimately places her life - and her father's crown - in jeopardy. The film stars singer and actress Halle Bailey (“grown-ish”) as Ariel; Jonah Hauer-King (A Dog's Way Home) as Eric; Tony Award® winner Daveed Diggs (Hamilton) as the voice of Sebastian; Awkwafina (Raya and the Last Dragon) as the voice of Scuttle; Jacob Tremblay (Luca) as the voice of Flounder; Noma Dumezweni (Mary Poppins Returns) as The Queen; Art Malik (Homeland) as Sir Grimsby; with Oscar® winner Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men) as King Triton; and two-time Academy Award® nominee Melissa McCarthy (Can You Ever Forgive Me?, Bridesmaids) as Ursula.
The Little Mermaid is directed by Oscar® nominee Rob Marshall (Chicago, Mary Poppins Returns) with a screenplay by two-time Oscar nominee David Magee (Life of Pi, Finding Neverland). The songs feature music from multiple Academy Award® winner Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin) and lyrics by Howard Ashman, and new lyrics by three-time Tony Award® winner Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton, In the Heights). The film is produced by two-time Emmy® winner Marc Platt, (Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert, Grease Live!), Miranda, two-time Emmy winner John DeLuca, (Tony Bennett: An American Classic), and Rob Marshall, with Jeffrey Silver (The Lion King) serving as executive producer. - Кино
Hey Movie Lovers, I forgot to mention the True Horror of Scuttle's new song! 🤯
Otherwise Halle Bailey and Melissa McCarthy were excellent! What do like or dislike about the remake?
I thought she did an awesome job with that rap part. I loved pretty much everything about it
The original ending was better tho. I was waiting for the rainbow part. And I missed the entire chorus from Under The Sea except for the end of the song and I also missed the animal army which Scuttle uses for the wedding. Everything else was great tho
@@quinnhouk5369 same, the rainbow ending is so beautiful!
@@felicity1877 I know. And they leave on a row boat. I would’ve had them on the ship looking back at everyone and waving as the ship is sailing away. That’s a better ending. Plus the rainbow as well

Movie was awful from start to end
Soulless remake
Bad performance, terrible cgi
I suggest not to watch this Mihir, if you love OG animated movie!!
I like how they incorporated so many cool sea animals into this movie, especially in Under the Sea.
Sebastian is a Ghost Crab, Scuttle is a Northern Gannet, Flounder is a Sergeant Major (type of damselfish), and there is so much more.
If I'm being quite honest I don't really hate Disney Live Remakes but they just don't live up to the expectations of the originals. I recon that Disney is doing them to make money while making the originals more superior though I got to admit some of them are such guilty pleasures to me.
I actually think that this version had a better story tbh
@@patrickandrzejak I agree however the GP refuses to admit this.
Did you see the live action versions of the lion king and Aladin?
@@anthonywhite7274 Yeah I did I thought they were good.
@@garveyneal1672 I thought so too, which allows me to remain open minded about The Little Mermaid.
0:44 not to mention being turned into fried calamari on a stick!!!!
I went in with relatively low expectations. I grew up eith the little mermaid animated movie. I would watch it, sing along, rewind, and watch it again- OBSESSIVELY. To thebpoint that when we moved, my siblings "lost" the VHS. 😂 My mom references me singing along with ariel all the time, so we made plns to see this one in theater right away and saw it somehow technically before it was releasted (on the 24th). Im so lucky that i got to see it with my mom. And we absolutely adored it. The way it was filmed is truly incredible!
do you have the little mermaid 1989 moive on dvd
@@francespitman4407 I do! My brother gave it to me for Christmas a few years ago to make up for "misplacing" it all those years ago 🤣
@@manaash4316 that is really nice of him to give you the little mermaid 1989 moive on dvd i have the little mermaid 1989 moive on dvd to i also just got the vhs tape of the little mermaid 1989 moive for my birthday to
@@manaash4316 i had the Disney vhs tape of beauty and the beast on vhs tape and my brother got in a rage and smash it when i was a kid so i had to buy the vhs tape again on trademe
The movie was horrible, lets be real!
Well it's like i always say, live action remakes are never as good as the originals. But they do teach us to appreciate the originals that were made years ago.
1:00 These thing’s are like M-14 starfish with seaweed on them then they lash out like hands
Did anybody else catch the Spider-Man 2-ish vibe Ursula had with her tentacles? When she was going through her cabinets, at first it looked like she was blindly reaching for stuff, but then it appeared as if her tentacles were talking to her and vice versa, VERY similarly to Doc Ock and HIS tentacles. Now while I was aware of the "rumor"/implication of Ursula being Triton's sister, I was NOT aware that said rumor/implication arose from the Broadway adaptation of the film. That said, in any form of media, is it ever explained specifically why, despite being his sister, why Ursula has tentacles instead of fins? Assuming there is no explanation, my mind was racing in the theater upon the remake seeming to imply that her tentacles had a degree of sentience to them, which of course begs the questions of HOW and WHY they're sentient. Was magic truly a "talent" of hers? Or was it perhaps the result of her going down a dark path from which she never returned? If that's the case, are her tentacles the result of that? Did she have fins at one point, but were then traded, either forcibly or intentionally? Going back to sentience for a moment, are the tentacles "driving" or are they merely accomplices? Is it a hive-mind situation? If some degree of mind control is a factor here, does Ursula somehow possess the ability to extend it to others? I don't mean like she does with Eric using Ariel's voice/siren song. I mean Floatsam and Jetsam. In both versions of the film, she can utilize portions of her powers THROUGH them. They are literally her eyes and ears in both films, and in the remake she can use them to create space-bending windows/portals to see and communicate through. I realize of course that this rabbit hole is entirely based on an ultimately unimportant observation, and it's entirely possible it was just a bit of riffing on McCarthy's part that I'm reading WAY too deep into. But whether intentional or accidental, that tiny little detail asks a LOT of questions, and therefore enriches not only this film, but the potential lore and legacy of the entire franchise. Details and additions like this are one of several reasons why I advocate for these live-action remakes. No, they don't need to exist, and yes, I do feel some type of way every time a new one is announced, but time and time again, Disney shows that whoever it is that's making these things are studying the original films and building onto them. Love or hate them, nobody can confidently say with a clear conscious that these are soulless films with no effort put into them. The amount of attention to even the tiniest and seemingly insignificant of details HEAVILY implies otherwise.
I thought it was terrific. Ariel and Ursala were awesome! I liked it.
Rest in Peace 🪦 Pat Carroll 1927-2022 you will definitely be missed so much and be remembered and never be forgotten
Wow, this film is dark
Yes, some parts really are, especially the trailers. But I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the film that it was brighter than I expected.
to dark and creepy
I didn't hate it. I like some of the changes. Hated others but enjoyed the movie all around. I think was a win. For live action.
At first I wasn’t sure about the casting but Halle is so adorable and she is a great Ariel. I wish they would have brightened her red hair to a fire engine red, she would have rocked it. Her voice is so beautiful, I love her versions of the songs. They should have cast Shaggy as Sebastian but I guess because he was involved in the live production, they couldn’t include him in this which is a huge shame.
Yes... Fire Red Hair would have looked amazing on film. Otherwise, I loved it!
Amazing video 👌
I love this movie. The writing, acting and music is wonderful. Seemed magical to me. Was looking forward to your thoughts and thanks for this video. It’s a beautiful movie and I finally have my favorite Disney Princess and Prince. My favorite scenes are when Ariel and Eric are together. Going to watch for a third time.
The movie was horrible, lets be real!
Halle Bailey was great in the film! Melissa McCarthy wasn’t as convincing as Ursula. Maybe Octavia Spencer could do more justice to the role…
halle bailey had a child
I had a bit of sympathy for Ursula but this explanation made me feel less sorry for her fate.
Ursala was based off a drag queen, so I would have loved to see that in the remake.
When Ursula grows how do you not show it. That was a great scary part
When i first saw Sebastian i was horrified. Flounder, too. But i fell in love during the film. It worked so surprisingly well.
My friends and I absolutely loved it!! We grew up with the original and we were ready for it lol so.. we went in positive. Honestly, it exceeded expectations. Halle & Melissa were phenomenal.. Sabastian had a surprising amount of emotion is his facial structure for a real looking crab. I have to say as well that the story was actually better.. it was improved upon. Eric had a story & there was a deeper and more meaningful exploration of Eric & Ariel's love story. The only negative we could muster up was that the final battle scene with giant Ursula could've been better & it was the only time the CGI didn't look that good. Not understanding the negativity surrounding this movie at all. In fact I haven't experienced negative reactions in person yet.. it seems to be confined to the internet 😂
The movie was horrible, lets be real!
Well said! I thought it was absolutely great too! I don't understand all the negativity either-- And those who criticize it can't explain why.
And that’s why it bombed financially
I saw it and loved it.3d was good.
What was the name of the novel?
The live action one was good..there were some songs in this version that the animated one didn’t have. Like Eric’s song and Ariel’s song after she gives up her voice.
I love that they gave the prince so much more personality!
It's a fucking remake IT DOESNT HAVE TO BE EXACTLY THE SAME IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE 💯 percent
I thought it was going to awful. But after seeing it, I loved it and thought it was such a sweet movie. ❤❤❤❤
Parts of Ursula song was also cut which was disappointing
When I went to see the film I did feel like there should have been more lighting since you couldn’t really see much of giant Ursula so she Responsible for both Ariel mother death and making Eric an orphan hey? I wondered if they thought it was unrealistic for her to sign a contract underwater and Ariel probably knows just the circle of life when it comes to Scuttle unlike us humans who would make a sport out of it 😂
I just wish that it would have been perhaps clearer that they did this scary things. The movie was promoted rather as a close copy, yet, with some mentioned differences. But from the trailers, it seemed to be quite close and not as scary as it turned out. Especially Ursula's lair. I have also thought of Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madness. I feel also the whole movie was more like a movie for rather older children or teens - but they promoted it for children. I think the promotion should have prepared more the audience, such like with the Doctor Strange movie....
What I thought of the movie? It sucked. Stop trying to make them more realistic and dark, they're just sucking. They feel lifeless and dark. Maybe, instead of trying to make it 'more mature' via making it look drab, they should go with alternate timelines like in the Starkid Musical 'Twisted', where villains are good, heroes are bad, or other things happened. And stop making them live action. Disney's 2D animation is beautiful, and older people can still appreciate 'cartoons'. If they don't think so, then they're the children here. You don't just 'grow out of things' that you enjoy.
Really hoping the best when this movie comes on a DVD
Are you making an Elemental Easter egg video
2:28 - The idea that giant Ursula's deadened eyes is a hat tip to the little red rings in her eyes in the original movie is ridiculous. At that point, you might as well just say, "The plot of the remake is possibly a hat tip to the plot of the original movie."
Little mermaid was the best live action since jungle book
I think the best remakes are Little Mermaid, Jungle Book, and Aladdin. Also Maleficent.
It implied Ursula Killed 12 people
Where you at? It’s been a year
are polyps is in the live action movie ?garden ursula ?
GREAT VIDEO FIlck and the city 💙💚💛😉👍
i wish they had given flotsam and
jetsam a humnoid appearance
e
I prefer the Polyps over whatever they replaced them with in the remake. I prefer the animation over the remake.
..big fan hope you guys come back sooner..
Hi flicks and the city is there any chance you could please do a video about the Easter eggs that you spotted in puss in Boots the last wish please
yeah why didn't Ariel just communicate to Eric by writing down everything?
Enjoyed it I only have two critiques One Eric should have been driving the ship That killed Ursula, and to Triton's rainbow was missing at the end of the movie
While I missed the rainbow, her dialogue with her father and the fact he pushed the ship as a way to do an honorary send off (so to speak) at least made that forgivable, as it’s almost the equivalent of a father giving his daughter away at her wedding ceremony.
Everything that people don’t like about the remakes comes from the scrubbing of our world.
We’ve all seen the AI apps recreate these characters in realistic yet imaginative ways that still capture the magic of the original characters.
But Disney isn’t magical anymore. It’s nice.
Flounder isn’t chubby and terrified anymore because that’s not nice.
Villains can’t smoke because smoking isn’t nice.
Timon and Pumba lost most of their original jokes because they called each other dumb or fat and that’s not nice.
The “ugly stepsisters” look normal because anything else isn’t nice.
Boys can’t be spontaneous with girls who’re clearly ready to jump their bones because not asking first isn’t nice.
Simba doesn’t pick on Zazu because it’s not nice.
Showing blood or villains getting killed is no longer allowed because it’s not nice.
Most of the music has either been changed or erased from the remakes because let’s face it… songs like “I’ll make a man out of you” aren’t very nice.
Think of all the not nice things that Scar says to the hyenas in “Be prepared”… they had to rewrite the entire song.
And the way the characters spoke about Aladdin had to be removed cause those weren’t nice things to say.
There’s lots more things but it always falls into a “this isn’t nice” category and then producers say things like “monkeys don’t carry sticks so no stick for Rafiki. And people actually believe that. “But of course he had to have his stick for the end..” (just not use it.)
When mandrills and monkeys do actually hold things like sticks… Disney just didn’t want to show Rafiki knocking a hyena upside the head.
Yep. Nice Disney is what we’re stuck with now. Dry comedy, no magical feel, hyper realism that feels cold and lifeless in a fantasy setting, few if any songs, dark backgrounds to hide errors from rushed CGI, pitchy keys in surviving songs, and extra characters to fill up plot holes and dead air from all the removed scenes and characters.
Yet, after all of the “repairing” Disney has been doing to the old movies, they still have not included a plus sized princess or an African Prince in any of their stories.
Even Nice Disney, isn’t so nice after all.
I like that the movie had different cultures and ethnicities.
Not gonna lie, the live-action remakes have opened a new door of nostalgia. It's the 2nd Renaissance of Disney using new technology. These movies make tons of money because people want to see the fairytales that they grew up with in live-action. Iconic characters in real life.
Despite the changes, I think it was one tall order for even the actors to give any of the line readings in the animated version. Done by Pat Caroll Kenneth Mars Ben wright or Samuel E. Wright as well as Christopher Daniel Barnes
Little Mermaid 🧜♀️ was a masterpiece,I thought all of the actors brought their A game
So glad you enjoyed the movie!
Hard agree! It was my favorite film growing up. I've watched it hundreds of times. This new one was incredible and I look forward to watching it many times, too!
The movie was horrible, lets be real!
@@gabikassen270 in your opinion
@@gabikassen270 just replying to every positive comment with this, huh? It's okay for you not to like something, but it was a technical masterpiece. It's objectively a great film.
I watched it on Memorial Day! I loved it! I know a little about the original Little Mermaid story and think Disney did a great job with the live action version. I was hoping that the concert scene was added in the beginning as a way to celebrate the coral moon. I think they should've emphasized the value of Ariel's voice a little bit more instead interpreted it as part of giving up her life as a mermaid.
I think of this live action adaption is definitely outstanding and outstandingly technicolored.
But by given what was said in this video about certain details.
I call this film a beautiful disaster
given the fact that some people were shocked. That some people were shocked that some of the characters weren't the way we remember them.
what do you mean it's been a year
What happened to this channel?
abandoned
OK, so if they don’t acknowledge the original material there terrible, but if they reference the original material, they’re terrible… must be a slow Newsday…..
Oof
Erm, did you watch the video?
how about don't do it at all
ASTKOLP🫣
this reboot move is so wooden and creepy there is no life in it
I love this movie so much saw it twice already the whole cast did a amazing job and i actually think it is better than the original movie no offense but screw the haters plus the new songs are amazing ❤
It looks like you stopped making videos and ended up in the last video little mermaid live action I want more videos please😥
I enjoy the remakes despite their flaws
y havnt u uploaded in nearly 2 months
I loved it they did a good job
I knew that I knew it or so I was trading sister
Can you trolls band together
What happened it been ages
And it was completely normal from that king he had children with different races 😂😂
I thought its was done very well and the actors very good. Just the singers for this remake were B rated.
I’m so sick of all the ridicule that this movie is receiving. Halle was beautiful as Ariel, her voice was perfection. I don’t want to hear about the Caribbean slave trade for that period and nothing else the haters and racists have to say ITS A FAIRY TALE!!!
No this wasn’t terrible. Terrible is still to come. Gal Gadot as queen Grimhilde in Snow White. Really? Notice how that disaster of an announcement got a complete pass from the trolls.
Filme péssimo, Ariel sempre foi ruiva e Ursula não é assim, muito ruim.....
If it's not being made better. Why are they remaking it.
There were a lot of things better believe it or not. One of them that I praise is that Ariel doesn’t fall for Eric just because he’s handsome.
FIRST
Thanks for watching early!
i hate Hans Christian Andersen book the little mermaid because it is sad it dose not have a happy ending and the little match girl book is sad to the The Steadfast Tin Soldier book is sad to the ugly ducking book to

The true horror, for me, is Melissa McCarthy's portrayal of Ursula. UGH. TERRIBLY CRINGE.
Oh no, I thought she was excellent. Sorry you didn't enjoy it.

Melissa McCarthy was freaking AMAZING as Ursula.
I thought she was great as Ursula. She did such a good job portraying her

Agreed.
This movie obviously could've been better. But as far as McCarthy goes, she's the Raul Julia to its Street Fighter 1994.
This looks like a good 🎥 movie, i have not had time to really watch it, but i will !!! I don't see anything wrong with it, i love both versions of the little mermaid 🧜♀️. Christine chastity lampkin t.v.
Top 1: making Ariel black
The film Sucked!!! When did Ariel turn Black??? Let's see a Fat Albert remake and Albert is White! How would that go over with Blacks???
😂😂😂😂 гугл переводит через н слово😂😂😂
Just shut up ND go watch the original or the one from the 70s. Just hush hunny. It is not our generations movie. We had ours. Respectfully ❤
I thought it was actually a great movie. To me At first I thought it would be awful but it turned out to be alright. Might be because I don’t really look at race when watching something I like watching things for the story. Also I thing it’s more of a cultural thing with shows like Fat Albert. It would be just a mess of a show if they did that. Little mermaid is a fantasy show and can have any race and it works out well.
Someone sounds upset.
And of course there's always that one racist person
