Blessy Ipe Thomas is an Indian film director and screenwriter who works in Malayalam cinema. He has won one National Film Awards and six Kerala State Film Awards for his feature films Kaazhcha, Thanmathra, and Pranayam. Indian migrant worker Najeeb Muhammed goes to Saudi Arabia to earn money to send back home, but he finds himself living a slave-like existence herding goats in the middle of the desert.

I felt like the life in masara could have been shown more.. It didn't feel like he spent 2 years there. The success of the book is largely because of his unbelievable struggle in the masara. In the book, Najeeb sleeps outside in the desert, but in the movie he is sleeping in a truck. A huge difference! Also, Najeeb looks after more than 700 goats, but in the movie its only around 150 or 200. His suffering and his love for goats didn't come through. But still a great movie!
Novel and film are two different mediums. Novels are too precise and detailed. For eg: when you say there were 700 goats, it cannot be literally shown in a movie. Whoever sees the movie, just needs to get that feeling that it is a masara. Regarding the sleeping aspect, I personally don't think it makes an effect. Najeeb is shown sleeping in a broken down truck with no windows in the beginning and then they show frames where he lives in the masara along with goat. It is not worthy to compare novel and cinema literally. It doesn't make sense in anyway. You can't create every single thing mentioned in the novel. Ultimately what matters is the essence that you feel after watching the movie.
Anoopbal @ . 100 % true . I too felt the same. The soul of the novel is the AATMABADHAM Najeeb had with the goats . He survived because of that relationship. It is true that novel can't be depicted in the same way. However Blessy now explained he was concentrating only on survival scenes. That is Hollywood style. He is intelligent to do that as the way it is received abroad too. Movie is excellent with all aspects n ARR s Midas touch .
@@ashaletha6140 Blessy never said that he was fully concentrating on escape sequences. He said that the book wasn't too detailed in the escape portion especially on showcasing how deep and difficult the desert is. He wanted to do it different to the book. Cinema is more visual - so the desert sequence was apt for it and the audience will definitely feel the depth of it. Further he also didn't belittle the connection that najeeb had with the goat- this is shown in the movie but they were subtle. That's the difference. Cinema was more realistic when it comes to the desert sequences whereas Novel had many imaginary contents.

ഇതിനൊരു രണ്ടാം ഭാഗം ഉണ്ടായേക്കാം എന്ന് ബ്ലെസ്സി പറയുന്നുണ്ട്. എങ്കിൽ ഈ പറഞ്ഞ സീനുകളൊക്കെ അതിലുണ്ടാവും. അതൊരു heroine oriented movie ആയിരിക്കും
അമല പോളിനെ ഭാഗം അത് വേണ്ടായിരുന്നു എന്ന് തോന്നി. ബാക്കിയെല്ലാം ഓൾ മോസ്റ്റ് ആ ഫീലിംഗ്സ് കിട്ടി. ഹക്കീം ,,നജീബ് ബെന്യാമിൻ ,ബ്ലെസ്സി.. എന്നും ജനങ്ങളുടെ മനസ്സിൽ ഉണ്ടാവും..❤❤..

Whoever watched Universal works like seven academy awarded movie Lawrence of Arabia , 127 hours,the raiders of the lost Ark they know about deserts how differently portrayed. But a common Malayali who always thinks porotta and beef whether in space , for them its just amused work of desert , anyway I enjoyed the movies without any prejudice. As a Malayali literally proud the work . Benyamin is the luckiest person in so many ways, as far as I understand that Najeeb has a good narrative power to describe the situation in each and every point where he overcomes through . I hope one day I will meet Hakim how the way benyamin met Najeeb. 😅
Climax no meeting between sainu and Najeeb after 3 years. It must be needed.very good movie 👍

I saw an interview today when the anchor asked Najeeb about Hakeem, and he said that he was only a character that Benyamin created for the book. The presenter then questioned Najeeb about whether or not Hakeem was a real character. At that point he said you can ask Benyamin about that to know more about it. Since Najeeb can't confirm or reject that it's a real character, I think he's in deliema now. May be that's the reason he stated in that interview that Benyamin wrote that character.
