I paused this video to run to my workstation to check it out.. I almost fell off my chair. It really makes a difference. Instead of pushing the bus compressor, y pulled it a bit and let the ATR do its magic.. WOW.. I immediately removed all plugins from my session chain and started over my last mix. What a difference!!! It really glues everything together! And to think that I bought 12 years ago a Tascam 32 to try to do the same thing, and ended up with a Tascam 32 I can't maintain... Including the cost of the tapes! I used the real workflow of bypassing the ATR until the mix is ready for mixdown. Just like IRL, "turned on" the ATR and monitored the input signal. Adjusted speed, tape, and switched to repro (as if I had bounced the mix to it) and that's when the magic happened. Now, the only plugin I'd like to see in spark (once the perfect marriage of the A800 and the ATR happened) is the Lexicon 480. Somehow I don't like the sound of the 224 as much. Still use it, but I know I'll be happier with the 480. Thank you #uaudio!
Downloaded it. A great emulation by UAD. Hopefully they bring some of their other channel strips, specifically the SSL and or the Neve 88RS plugins to the native platform.
We really need the SSL native, I got the PA & the Waves one, but I can’t get over how good and clean the UAD one is, I want to use it on everything! There’s just something about it.
@@守那 I couldn't agree more. When they talk about, transparent and silky smooth, the UAD SSL comes to mind. It does seem to be a cut above the rest. I've used them often in studios, alongside the real thing, never owned the plugins. It's a pity they seem to be holding back on this type of emulation.
Amazing video Drew! It really shows how versatile this tool is! If you are not getting null, it could be a mismatch in parameters or differences in per channel latency. Or a bug! The plugins are identical in code.
I love all the tape plugins (and all the other plugins) from universal audio, this one is my main go-to. First time I heard it I was sure this was the tape emulation I wanted. When I need to be able to make a overdriven part on purpose I just love to use the Universal Audio Verve plugin since that gives me the handy warble parameter. Trust me when I say Ampex ATR-102 Tape Plugin is what you want in your mix!
Loving the native plugin, for sure. It's by far the best sounding tape plugin I've ever used, but I'd probably love it even more if it still had controls for amounts of wow/flutter and hiss, and I like the idea of not needing an extra plugin to do tape delay. Still a solid 9/10 though, to be honest.
Very sporty audio shirt there 😃. Alexander M. Poniatoff went to work for Shanghai Power then started Ampex, and it wasn't til many years later the 102 was ushered in. Is that scratching the surface of the history on that? Thanks for glossing over it, in a very informative way. When to use Sync, Repro, Input and thru, other than listening for what sounds good. An explanation a bit on it, would make philosophical sense. Thanks.
Srry I didn't even use headphones I listened to this on an android without headphones and still I heard the difference it was like a very subtle saturation sound. That sounds every home recording Artist tries to achieve to sound professional but can't really achieve this plugin in this demo acquired that sound without a problem. wow!!!!!

demoing 2 weeks now and can confirm this adds something that i do not want to miss. I checked deeply. With close eyes and level match... i could point each time on the version with it enabled. But this delay like in the vocals example? is this also generated by the ATR??😊 Thanks
Awsome plugin. What is the next step for Luna? It seems to be somewhat at a standstill development wise. Will we see a 2.0 or is the whole thing abandoned and in maintenance mode?
when is this auto gain feature coming to the studer? Really miss it there, it's such a hassle to find the sweet spot with constantly having to juggle the in and output knobs
I’m using the Ampex ATR-102 Master Tape Recorder plugin in my Cubase 14 Pro and have a question about its operation. When the DAW is stopped, the reel animation in the plugin stops as well. I’m wondering if this visual change has any impact on the sound processing.
Dam..I think I'm going have to buy this Lol!!! Even though i already have quite a bit already i.e., Distressor,Neve 88rs,API 2500 B-COMP, Manley Vxbox,LA-2A, 1176,Pultecs,UA-610 B and Oxide Tape... I think this Ampeg Plugin is Blowing this out the water I have an Apollo Twin Duo with all the Updates, And with Me being a windows User I got Luna Up & Running Really Looking forward to diving in .
It took long enough, had the licence on my iLok since i can't remember when lol Better late that never though and GREAT plugin. Shame it doesn't have all the functionality of the UAD2 version though, any plans to update it to the same level?
Recently compared the UA tape machines to the Slate VTM and the IK Multimedia range of tape emulations and the UA's came out the least impressive, I thought the Slate would be the most impressive but the IK machines seemed to have more depth and character. 😎
Awesome, different tools for different goals. That said, UA's tape machine emulations are by far the most accurate for emulating specific tape machines in their entirety.
This release was a mess. They've cut some features of the DSP version. And a lot of people on forums are saying that the Native plugin doesn't sound nearly as good as the dsp version. Ua, if you are going to make dumbed down, worst sound native versions, is better to not release them. This way you wont be fooling customers that may think they are the same plugin.

@@KyleBevis-u7j I ran this through my car speakers and threw my Sony headphones . I closed my eyes when before they took it off bypass. There wasn’t a drastic or noticeable change to the mix. It’s either really subtle change or it’s transparent AF. Most of audience isn’t going to notice or care. Only the most detailed and particular engineers are going to care. Or people that are nostalgic for tape and want that sound and can’t afford or have access to tape.
🌟I'm always learning from you on the ATR. And i love how you stick to traditional analogue flow and go by ear rather than a lot of spectrum analysers.
Glad to hear this. It's the way all the best records ever made were made!!! OG baby!!!!!

I'm experimenting with this plugin and ozone 11 for mastering. Do you recommend putting the Ampex last in the Chain, oder before the Ozone Plugin?
