  • Fallout 4: Sim Settlements 2 continues, as we head north to dig up a pre-war superweapon, and then immediately get distracted by an elaborate scheme to steal somebody's kidneys, an attempt to recruit robot warriors, and a farm in distress. Pretty typical day, really.

    Importantly, the guards at 111 didn't just get bored and mutiny; the Vault simply was understocked with food and other essentials, causing a schism between the science team, who understood the dangers of going outside in a nuclear winter, and the security team, who wanted to risk it.

    • @larryartichoke5976

      I agree with Jon that the actual experiment was not directly about perfecting cryostasis but I do believe it was involved. We already know Vault-Tec had perfected the technology from other sources. As you point out, there was not enough supplies to support the vault despite Vault-Tec and the scientist they assigned there, being perfectly aware the duration of their time would be extensive due to the exterior environment.
      The theory I have heard which I'm inclined to believe, is Vault-Tec wanted to test what the non-frozen inhabitants would do when their food supply ran out while they were surrounded by a host of refrigerated dinners. I think Vault-Tec wanted to see if the inhabitants would crack each cryo chamber open one by one as they slowly cannibalized the frozen inhabitants of the vault. I'm guessing the security either rejected the idea or rebelled before it could be implemented. Vault-Tec often has a confederate in their experiments to help guide the intended test subjects into the experiment. Their confederate was likely one of the scientist who got killed by the security team.

    Jon: *Immediately assigns Darsenia Two to army*
    Edit: Also, it occurs to me as it's been brought up a bunch in the London series, given npc SPECIAL levels make a difference in SS2, you could use excess stat boosting gear on your npcs to make them better at their jobs or at the jobs you want to assign them to by forcing them to equip it.

    Pretty sure the security in 111 didn't just "get bored". IRC, they only had enough food for a few months, and the Overseer decided that the scientist should have the biggest part of the rationing.

    • @TallDarknGruesome
      @TallDarknGruesome 15 дней назад +9

      yeah, there are only a few terminals in 111 and they pretty clearly lay out that 111 was told the all clear would be in 6 months and never got it. They started running out of food and other basic supplies very shortly after that false hope date.
      We aren't told how exactly how soon after that there was a rebellion within the vault, but the assumption was that it happened fast and was led by security.

    • @chihiroisabelle8680
      @chihiroisabelle8680 14 дней назад

      @@TallDarknGruesome Kind of ridiculous that no one saw it coming. Anyone with basic knowledge of radiation would know that it would be death to open a vault after only six months, and that's before you factor in what's going on with everything that DIDN'T die. So they had no food stores, no hydroponics or any way to grow food themselves down there, and obviously nobody was going to rock up with a truck full of supplies. What did these people honestly expect was about to happen?

    • @TheGrinningViking
      @TheGrinningViking 13 дней назад

      They didn't have enough tubes to freeze people until it was over either.
      I think it was a test to see if the vault dweller's would kill the cryogenically frozen people they didn't know to save themselves.
      It went off the rails because the guards would rather poke their heads out and risk it than murder flash frozen families, which obviously didn't properly test the situation they wanted to.
      The scientists were honestly stupid in the extreme. There was certainly a way to isolate the entrance and send a guard out - at worst they would die, one less mouth to feed.

      3 chapters, each being 2Gb download. And that is just the basics. SS2 has loads of player made mods adding more plots to the game, new units with outfits/armour and even new settlements like Swan's Pond where Jon opened the episode from.
      You do have to be careful as SS2 uses a lot of scripts and having more than 1 settlements in a cell can cause the game to crash if they're both built up.

  • @zuzoscorner

  • @TheAbstruseOne
    @TheAbstruseOne 15 дней назад +11

    The problem with Vault 111 wasn't just that the guards got bored - they ran out of supplies. The vault was given 180 days worth of supplies if rationed and they started to run out long before then. The Overseer was instructed not to let anyone out until the all clear happened, which they never got because six months is not nearly long enough for an all-clear if anyone was even around to give one. So the security ended up rebelling over the lack of food and the Overseer refusing to let them out.
    However, you're right that this was very likely part of the experiment. Most other Vaults had decades if not centuries worth of supplies for 1000 residents plus support staff. Only giving six months of supplies to a skeleton crew of security and techs was very clearly intentional. So the question is, what was the point of that experiment? To see how exactly order would break down in a situation where supplies wouldn't hold out? Or if the Overseer training was good enough to ensure that any rebellion in a similar situation wouldn't succeed?

  • @neonseas
    @neonseas 15 дней назад +9

    I think the issue with the "too many outposts" thing is that you're doing everything in such quick succession that the outposts aren't being given enough time to do their own recruiting, so by the time that some time is passed with the number of outposts you have you might be so overrun with soldiers that your normal settlements food/water/power will struggle to keep up with your army's demands.

    I'm surprised there wasn't more to the Darsenia situation. Wounded synth shows up, claims pacifism, expresses she has reclaimed her humanity and personhood from the Insitute's murderbot program, runs through the full 'synths are people too' Railroad routine... then asks you to go murder a fellow gen 3 (=person) synth in cold blood and scrap it for spare parts. She's explicit about wanting Courser parts too, the top-of-the-line milspec stuff exclusively found in gen 3s, not just any old synth component. I'm surprised that's apparently not a deliberate red flag.

    I’ve said it before but the Institute makes zero sense. Like what is the end goal?!? You’re just murdering people and replacing them. Why?!? For what reason?!? And somehow Shaun is just ok with that and they’re a faction you can support. You’d have to actively be ok with murdering people just because you can. They could just as easily create a synth with a unique personality and integrate them into whatever town/community you want them in. It’s so stupid.

      I absolutely agree. But also, i don’t remember if the dude that kicked off the whole “broken mask” incident was a replaced person or a unique identity? So maybe they were doing that, but then after the incident everyone would have been so wary of any new people that they had to start replacing already established members of the community.
      Now, there’s still no obvious reason that they would need to be doing this, especially given the heavy implications that they have synth-crows and synth-cats to carry out espionage, and no real gains to be had from manipulating politics. But it’s an explanation nonetheless.

    I always wondered why in the Fallout universe, Vaults weren't used as settlements or extensions of settlements more Often. But then, thinking about it, they actually are! Most of the abandoned vaults have some critical flaws that prevent people from living there and interacting with the rest of the world.
    In Fallout 1, Vault 13 is in Isolation and Vault 15 is completely abandoned, but Vault 12 is the home of an important Ghoul community that lives both within and around, and houses dissidents to Set's rule over the city.
    In Fallout 2, Vault city is a combination of a functioning vault and city that interacts with the rest of the world, Vault 15 is occupied by raiders as a base, Vault 13 has become refuge to a community of sapient deathclaws... So there really isn't any abandoned Vault in the "civilized" world of Fo2.
    In Fallout New Vegas, Vault 19 and Vault 3 are used by raiders much in the same way Vault 15 was by the Khans in Fo2, and Vault 21 or what remains of it is a functioning hotel, an extension of the New Vegas Strip.
    Fallout 3's only vault that is connected to the rest of the world is Vault 87 as being the origin and main base of the local super mutants. I wouldn't really call Vault 101 a settlement as it's just a Vault that barely ever opened and has no regular contact with the rest of the wasteland. The rest of the Vaults in that game are simply impossible to settle.
    Fallout 4 has quite a lot of settled Vaults, actually only Vault 111 is fully abandoned, and Vault 118 though it has some robotic residents is not in a position to become a settlement but the rest are connected to the wasteland in some ways.
    Vault 114 is a base for the mobsters, Vaults 75 and 85 are Gunner bases and Vault 81 is a functioning settlement with economic ties to the rest of the world and generally accepts people moving in and out, Vault 81 can be turned into a real settlement.
    So Yeah, communities settling Vaults or Vault survivors interacting with the rest of the world is pretty common in the franchise. It makes Vault 111 incredible real estate and it's nice to have to possibility of occupying it in this mod!

    Would be nice to see a few assaultrons leading the assault. Maybe a few tankbots as well.

    Jon just so you know (cause I see you consistently aiming for the head) I know it sounds weird but shooting people with the explosive guns in the head in VATS is actually straight worse than hitting them in the torso. Torso hits damage all 5 limbs as well with the AOE of the explosive, hitting them in the head only damages head and torso (with some minor damage to arms).
    Torso shots with explosive rounds is just plain better damage on humans, even with armor.

      Also I know you don't like the DLC too much but you could use the robotics workbench to create as many robot soldiers as you want to man any settlement/outpost you want and fill your ranks with a robot army. Put the Mechanist to shame lol

    Does every soldier in this require their own uniform depending on their role? Just asking as feel like I got the implication from this whole war thing at that is how it works, you assign a uniform for each role instead of just, for all of 'em.

    Isn't the whole point of generation 3 synths that they are basically human? I thought the only mechanical part in them was the control chip in the brain?
    Feels strange to be stealing "courser parts" to "repair" a gen 3.

    jon, why dont you use the 100s of mines you have *before* you attack the gunners at a hollow settlement

    It always bugs me when games & things start talking 'cryogenics'.
    As that's not the correct term, CRYONICS, is the process of freezing/unfreezing living things.

    What a bs, what courser parts are they? Synths are indistinguishable from humans with only one tiny component only recoverable after death. What a lore breaking guest.

    Disappointed it actually said 'courser parts' instead of 'kidneys'. 0/10, not GOTY.

    Day 216 of requesting Age of Mythology. Recruiting an army of robotic warriors and stealing people's organs is like 30% of the plot of Transformers One, which is a great movie you should see in theaters by the way. Shilling for awesome movies aside, it's really odd that the Enclave hasn't gone the robot soldier route like Jon tried. It'd be a far better solution to their manpower problem than brain-jacking Deathclaws.

      I guess they don't have the industrial capacity to produce robots on their own on a large scale, and an army that can reproduce and multiply by itself and be fed the bodies of your enemies sounds like an efficient one when it comes to logistics haha. Instead of needing tons of high-end materials, electronics and energy weapons and power cells they just use a small amount of electronics to create an efficient and obedient death machine (until it gets hacked and eats their own guys, but I guess the enclave underestimated the technological abilities of the Brotherhood).
      But yeah, if any tech skilled Wastelander can start up a robot army by just finding a robco factory, why wouldn't the enclave just occupy one of them and use it?
