Ya know, if you want to min max this, Napoleonic France probably has the most puppets since you break up Germany and can soft decolonise and release all your colonies as puppets.
with some nations u gotta be careful to release as many puppets as possible, for example with ethiopia the small nations often overlay ontop one another and if you release one thats multiple states big you wont be able to release something different giving you less puppets. :)
I think it's cool having unique subject names in Hoi4, I think the British when they puppet Mexico it gets renamed to the Dominion of Mexico. I hope with the new Germany overhaul they have new names for German and Austrian subjects like the Habsburg Kingdoms and more Reichskommissariats/Imperial Colonies
