  • Mitch Gallagher and Don Carr present the John Petrucci signature JP-2C Mark IIC+ tube amplifier. It delivers all of the tonal variety and power of a Mark IIC+ with powerful additions specified by John. It's a celebration of John and Mesa's 30-year relationship and is based on one of Mesa's fan-favorites. And the JP-2C features additions like dual footswitchable 5-band EQs and a CabClone output, making it an even more powerful animal.

    • @victormats949
      @victormats949 8 лет назад +29

      Absolutely true, that's not the point of the amp. If you want a Marshall tone get a Marshall amp. Maybe they're trying to show how versatile the amp is but they are not touching the hi-gains and liquid leads.

    Man I love when amp reviewers set the controls to noon on a Mark series amp, the worst place for them, then they literally don't turn a single knob over the course of an entire 16-minute review and instead spend that time telling us about the amp's feature list that we could've read in bullet point format in about 30 seconds.

    I bough a Mark V from Sweetwater April 2020, it is hands down the baddest amp I've ever used. Channel 3 gives a Strat balls that I never knew it had. Boogie heads that I've heard never need "Boost" pedals like a marshall requires. Headroom, Boogie wrote the book. Reverb is outstanding
    I'm so glad Boogie is a USA built product. My saying is "If it doesn't say made in USA, I don't play" My entire guitar rig is USA BUILD. PRS ARTIST CUSTOM 22, GIBBY Les Paul Standard 2000, a 1992 G&L Legacy, 50th anniversary Strat, Case Ave. Ibanez, Ovation Elite, 85' Flying V and a P-90 Les Paul. Ps. I can't play worth a damn. Basically I suck. What an expensive hobby😆

    7 long years and I still prefer this over the Mark V and the brand new Mark VII. I'm excited to finally get my hands on one as a DT/JP fan and aspiring multi-genre player. The clean channel may not breakup but you can certainly get softer tones and even edge-of-breakup on the other two channels with the gain really low.

    I loved this amp when I tried one at Sweetwater! Very nice, it was just too much for me. I ended up getting a barely used Nomad100. I use a noise gate, Empress EQ in the fx loop. I also, added the Two Notes Torpedo Captor 8 with it. The EQ tames the mid-range which I felt overall was a bit too much. I am glad I found the Nomad 100. Someday, I might still get the JP2C. The Para EQ I think makes my Nomad seem more like the JP2C

  • @Escapism7133
    @Escapism7133 8 лет назад +1

    Anyone else underwhelmed with that clean channel? It sounded like it was breaking up to me. If you used this amp with a boost or OD like most metal guys would, the clean channel would likely end up turning into a crunch tone. It was a nice and different demo/review though.

    • @masecardrums
      @masecardrums 8 лет назад

      +tranquilescapism They had everything at noon, which I wouldn't have done with this amp - that clean channel would be totally clean by turning down the gain and turning up the Master to match the rest of the amp. I thought the clean was nice, but yeah, a hair crunchy.
      I wish they'd gone into some more typical Mark settings on the gain channels - rolling off the bass and adding treble to shape the character of the distortion.

    • @Escapism7133
      @Escapism7133 8 лет назад

      Ryan Masecar I agree, the settings can make a dramatic difference. The rhythm guitar player in my band has a Mesa Mark V and I've had the opportunity to fool around with it a few times (granted it isn't the same as the JP-2C) but I've never been impressed with the cleans on Mesa's. I'm used to a non master volume amp which has tones of headroom. This is a different beast entirely - and subsequently has a lot more features. I personally think this amp excels with distorted tones... Let's just say it's cleans are subjective. Some may like it more than I do.

  • @rydeentokio
    @rydeentokio 8 лет назад

    The Cab Clone may sound not so good, but I found recording level of its demonstration here is really bad. It's so high the sound is obviously distorted. Or maybe the sound actually is as if it is distorted.

    hi, friend!! I hope you are well, I have a question with this amplifier regarding how to use the equipment with headphones without the speaker playing, I do not want to have accidents with the amplifier, that is why I am asking you how to use it only with headphones to practice at night. To use with headphones should I leave the SPKR switch OFF? Is it correct to do it like this? or is it done another way??? I hope you can help me, I will be attentive, greetings from Chile!! 👍👍

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  Месяц назад

      Hi, Joseguillermo1. The JP2C has a Cab Clone DI/load box built into it. This allows you to use headphones with the amp, with no noise coming through the cabinet you have connected. To do this, you would have Speaker Off selected in the CabClone section on the back of the amp.
      Thanks for your interest!

      +Josh Brown I agree but a lot of these videos end up being on the page of the individual product you're looking at on Sweetwater, so they probably want to showcase all the features and put the product in the best light with few (if any) negatives. Perhaps they should consider doing a series that is more laid back just for the RUclips audience.

      @@brianbowersox8392 Exactly. Highly agreed. Most of the negative commenters, are talking out of their asses, and are jealous because they can't afford the showcased products. Mesa's are nice, but I think they're highly overrated. Everything is subjective. What sounds good to a person, is the best sound to them. I'm a huge Friedman Fan. That's my dream setup, and thanks to Sweetwater, it's attainable and afforable with a 4 year payment plan. Once I discovered Sweetwater in 2017, they are the only company that I will buy music equipment from. Their customer service is better than anybody elses. How can anyone with ears and a brain not hear the difference between everything they played mic'd up in the beginning, and the trash can sounding fart tone at the end. Cab Clone aside, this is an amazing, amazing amp.

    • @gryzor
      @gryzor 8 лет назад +2

      +Elliot Grey Cab clone is _less bad_ than what it sounds here, especially for clean sounds. For High Gain stuff, it sounds really crazy. I only use mine (came with my V:25) to add about 30% of the sound in mixes. So you get one or two mics from the cabinet and then add a third channel from the cabclone which you can mix, eq, and blend in the mix. :)
      But I agree, it's not "great". I wouldn't play straight from the cabclone to a PA or Mixer on a live gig.

    • @VRHB518
      @VRHB518 8 лет назад +1

      I just started using the cab clone on my JP-2C - mainly because it's easier to setup then my Two Notes Torpedo Reload. I'm getting much better results then I expected with it. In fact, my two notes has been sitting in a drawer since I worked with Cab Clone. Don't get me wrong, Two Notes is a better product, but I just like the convenience of cab clone for quick DAW work and night time practice -- I honestly think this is one of the worst demo's of the JP-2C from a sound/settings standpoint. It's informational, but setting everything to 12 o'clock on any Mesa is going to put it at a very bad reference point. I buy from Sweetwater all the time, but Mesa should clue these guys in, because I thought the whole video was thin and tinty sounding - which is not what the JP-2C should sound like. Yes, I understand not every demo needs to be a metal demo, but c'mon, there are much better tones for hard rock than this.

    Seems like an awesome amp. Except for the Fart Clone. That was just horrible. I'm surprised a company like Mesa would allow such junk to hit the market. Cab Clone I've been able to dial in REALLY good - I don't know why Sweetwater can't. It's not quite in the same ballpark as a Two Notes Reload or Live - but it's a great feature on these amps - especially to be able to use a 100 watter at bedroom levels and get decent home studio recordings in the process. I did a Cab Clone demo on sound cloud with the JP-2C when I first got the amp which was better than this, and that was before I had it really dialed in tight. What was Sweetwater thinking?

    Cab clone still sounds shit! Where is the the simul class version of this? Mesa's answer is "JP prefers the non simul class 60/100 Mk iiC+" but he plays huge venues. Most of us play clubs and bars where switchable simulclass (like on the Switchtrack Simul 395 power amp) class A power amp overdrive is just so creamy it turns girls on as well as guys! This would mean your clean could use Class AB 75watt headroom and when you switch over to lead you have 15 watt Class A overdriven power amp distortion from heaven. With this new amp that means all those settings would be midi presetable! Common Boogie ... Simul Class iiC+ reissue just like this! Drop the JP name if you want who cares about that?

    • @DimeWyldeSynTremonti
      @DimeWyldeSynTremonti 8 лет назад +1

      Boogie doesn't design their amps around power amp distortion. Also, it's a signature amp. As with guitars, the artist can have done to it whatever they want. If JP wanted Simul then the amp would be as such. Just slave it to a SimulClass power amp, maybe? Or just call Boogie and have them make you a signature head so the rest of the world can bitch about how YOUR signature head doesn't meet THEIR needs. The great thing about capitalism is that you don't have to buy it.

    Boogie sound... Fat, Oily, liquidy sounding leads for days! Mediocre edge of breakup, crunch and cleans... An old Mesa Boogie fan btw... The cleans sound very dead and bland to me. It's like the strings are dead and yet fat and full. Like a fat dead corpse! Crunch on almost all Boogies (except perhaps Lonestar) is just not right, overly middy that can not be dialled out and again a little bit fizzy tops that if you dial it out will make your sound woolly and muffled.
    I have never played a Mesa in my life (and I own 3 Mesas by now in the studio) that could give me a balance clean/crunch tone. Lead? It's a different story dude! One of the best lead tones in existence for sure for single note runs and heavy and huge rhythms, however if you wanna have articulate and note separation even in heavy rhythm, you don't get it easy with Boogies. And yeah I know how the EQs work, I know tubes can be replaces between EL34s and 6L6s and all the rest of the usual stories, but no so far only Lonestar could get close to that open blend of American/British sound that sounds acceptable for clean/crunch.

      My thoughts exactly. No matter how many bells and whistles they may put in Mesas, they are never versatile enough for me. Beautiful amps? Damn skippy, but just not my cup of java.

    Oh man you guys.......I typically love your videos.....but you made the greatest amp on earth sound absolutely horrible.

    A terrible demo by two dudes who apparently don't know even the basics of how to dial in these amps. Are they trying not to sell them?

      Which is strange because they both claimed to have owned Mesa Boogie Mark series amplifiers. You’d think they freakin know better.

    Horrible, talked most the time, then dialed in gross tone. Justice needs to be done to this - I hear this guys voice WAY more than the amps voice.

    Probably the worst demo I ever seen.

    It would’ve been nice if they put a little time and try to create a quality cab clone. Hearing that demo sounds useless.
