- Is this 7 year old amp still that good and is it really worth $4000??? We talk about some honest truths when it comes to the JP2C!
That one Jp-c2 on Reverb for $2500 that you showed, I just bought it.
How much did he take for it bud?
@@pauld1568 $2400 cash.
Mesa did a price drop recently, but it wasn't a ton. Maybe $300... ?
I have a JP2C and a Fractal FM9 and the JP2C model on the FM9 is realllllllllly close.
It really is. Especially when you have a PA driving the axe fx.
Would love to have one, but 4k is waaaay too brutal price :/
Great video, Marko! Like always.
Price is now $3600 on all the websites
I switched to the FM3 from a Mark IV, and a few other amps. With a tube power section I'm not missing anything. Fractal and neural nail the Mesa stuff
Mostly Fractal that nails them
I did the opposite.. To me tube amp still superior
The Ernie Ball Musicman Petrucci guitars are also very overpriced.
No amp is worth $4k.
Except this one!
Completely agree with everything you said. This is a $2.5-3k amp, nothing more. Only reason why it’s commanding such high prices is because of the Petrucci tax, just like the Ibanez JPM’s.
This amp is $5500 in Europe... XD LOL! Mesas new pricing is laughable. I can't imagine them selling many units at all here..
Cheap-ass reverb in a $4k studio-level head - only in Mesa!
better sell now as the economy gets worse it will drop lower than originally priced
get a MARK IV Rev A and you have the IIC+ sound. Had the JP2c but returned it and kept the Mark4. Those are going for around 1500€ and sound better than the Mark 5 too.
I was curious, does your Mark IV or did your JP2C have a fan mounted in the head?
Great video. You should try Neutrik NDJ’s to those empty plug holes. They will prevent accidents 😁
Proper, objective review. I agree with what you said. No amp is perfect, and 4000 for this is just crazy.
I own two JP2C's and paid around 1$600 - $2000 each used in 2019/2020 and I would personally say the JP2C would be worth brand new at most in eyes for the old price they had at $2749.00USD. Great amp and love it. I do have 9 different recto's, a mark IV rev A, some letter block 5150's, a modded 6505, marshall 900 slx , marshall jcm 2000, marshall jcm 800 2203kk amp and some randall heads. All great amps and by no means really expansive amps and I would say the JP2C is 2nd to the top only because I prefer the rectifier sound. I play mostly deathcore music. Great video btw and I watched it from start to finish! \m/
I think it’s the budget version of a real IIC+.
But no amp should be over 2500 new or used.
For 5000 John Petrucci should hand deliver to my house and set it up.
Great video! Thank you.
The street price of the new jp2c combo is £4,800. That’s $6450 😂
What a joke....
I have zero broken midi cables.
Marko, you nailed it with the 3 key shortcomings. 1) Reverb before the loop??? yea the Mesa guy was correct, the original IIC+ was designed like that, doesn't make it right. They should have moved it. 2) The chassis power plug position is really difficult to access. 3) CabClone DI is a meh, the CabClone IR that has followed it is much improved and actually very useful with my Badlander. Then of course that reverb cable connection jeez man tie that thing down. They did the same thing on the Mark V I don't get it.
But that amp is a beast :)
I sold my mark V after it just gathering dust for a year after i bought my quad cortex…😅
So, I owned a JP2C from its release until December just past.
I bought it for £3k, it sold for £1800. Mesa Boogies take a HUGE kick in the nuts, the depreciation is mental.
Is it worth £4k? To answer this, you meed to look at its competition, so here in the UK and other places your looking at:
Mezzabarba Trinity - £3900
Freidman BE100 - £4000
Victory Super Kraken - £2200
Soldano SLO100 £4000
Bogner Uberschall MK2 - £3400
The JP2C is priced with the top end amps at retail and I’d say the price is fair when compared with the competition
Dammm, I would snag that for 1.8k ! I settled for mark V mini only because jp2c in Uk is outrageously priced !💀
A Mark V mini is not settlement by any means, its a tremendous amp.
I sold a fair bit of my collection which included the JP2C (only a Marshall and Victory to sell) to concentrate on boutique combos
Its a great amp
@@davidrg1550 it’s not and I love it however lack of midi and shared EQ feels a bit meh but at this moment and time it will do the job 😃
@@Mat_NTL must admit, I only ever used one EQ, the other sat dormant.
The Midi is a bonus, but even the Super Kraken (amazing amp) has that
all of the amps you listed have horrible resale value compared to the new price but idk how you only got 1800 pounds for the JP-2C considering i havent seen one on the used marked for under 3000€
other than a IIC+ it's the best of the Mark serios IMO
Here in Europe 5200 euros..
0:18 amp sims: am I a joke to you
Disagree Sold my jcm 800 for a Matchless sc30. Respect to all.
Cute devon rex’s
I had one for years, and loved it. Sold it over Christmas this year and now have a Badlander 50 and it’s more my style.
Great video. The JP2C is king 🤴🏻!
I ordered one from Thomann in 2022 for 2999e. Its at the post office finally!!!
is it still worth it when $4000 can get you two units of fractal fm9 which sounds amazing imo
The FM9 will be obsolete, outdated tech in a few years time.
I got a Mesa Single Rectifier and Roadking Combo years ago… since then I play an Elmwood Modena 60 (Swedish brand) that sounds between an SLO and Bogner XTC 😊
5700€ in Europe (Reverb).
4k?? No way.... it could be his personal amp for 4 grand i still would not buy it. Even when it has a potmeter for the temperature of the sun. 😂
Very great duet with the cello in the end! Definitely the highlight of this video!
Been looking to buy one forever. But the price is just insane.
Great video, Marko! Outta curiosity, what amp(s) would you consider worth their $4k+ price tags?
None. You can get a top notch killer head for half. I would only buy heads used at this point. Hundreds of them on market that are like new.
How did you see so many on Reverb? There are exactly two now, a month after your video!?
There’s literally 11 used ones right now on reverb. Go on reverb and type in “Jp2c” and click “used”.
I love the sound of petrucci but sadly, this is unaffordable
Как же много ты говоришь и какой плохой звук для обзора
I have Marshall with 6L6s
Keep in mind that Mesa became part of Gibson during the past few years as well. I’m sure that affected the price as well. Have a pre Gibson Mark 5:35 for almost 10 years now and it’s an outstanding, versatile amp. Would love to try one of these, but I don’t appreciate the double whammy of JP name + Gibson name on price. Love the versatility of three channels in one amp.
It’s the ultimate Mesa Boogie amp, which I think was it’s purpose. Personally, with all the additional accessories you need to complete a tube amp setup, it’s not worth or even really about value. Digital modelers make life so much easier.
this video is on point. sound 10 design 6. Still great amp.
Worth 4K? No. Not at all. It’s amazing but not 4K. No amp is worth that much.
Get a really good power amp and a fractal if you’re going to spend near 4 k. The feel is there. I’m shocked my self. I’ll never part with my Mesa marks that I own and they have their purpose. But man, fractal nails so many amps when you have a real power tube amp driving it.
Hey Marko, my dear namesake. I absolutely adore Petrucci and DT, but at this pricepoint, I just don't see why one shouldn't just get oneself one of the latest of the fractal products. even the FM3 can do so much more than just one of the JP2Cs.
but, if you absolutely must have a tube amp, I would consider none other than that, not even the Mark VII, because the JP has the double EQ section and other features that make it most probably the most versatile amp in existence.
Had one, great amps but ended up flipping it when the prices sky rocketed after inflation. I have to say, I don't miss it but still great amps.
Nice review.I would not pay even $1k for this flawed design of an amp.
I agree.
I'm from the EU. I've been waiting and saving money for 5 years to buy JP2C. When I saw the prices in the EU, I gave up. I don't want to give this much money, plus I don't want Mesa to humiliate me in such a way that this amplifier is more expensive in the EU. Good luck Mesa, when you lower the prices like in the USA, maybe I'll think about buying a model. This is a big disrespect to all musicians outside the USA
Thomann music is trying to sell it for above 6k.
No they're not. They are selling it for (converted) $5500. That is including Swedish VAT (25%) which is one of the highest in Europe.
@@Tanax13 Swedish tax is fkn crazy!
@@THEVATICANTS Swedes love it :) We get free healthcare, free education (incl up to university level), minimum 25 days paid vacation, etc. 25% VAT sounds crazy, especially considering we've already paid ~30% tax on our salaries, but few Swedes would want to give it up ^^
@@Tanax13Lol, you're a great example of typical Swedish sanctimony. Swedish healthcare is dysfunctional, chuck full of incompetent doctors and nurses. Don't believe me? Just call your vårdcentralen and check for yourself. A friend of mine just caught her doctor lying on her medical file last week when she checked at 1177.
Cancer? Take tea and Alvedon. Pneumonia? It's viral, nothing to do about it. Take Alvedon and rest. 💩🤡
@@Tanax13 I took love waiting a month to get into the dentist for a toothache
I have a super rare amp, only 9 made. I'd definitely pay $4K if I could get another one as a spare. I have lots of amps that kick ass, but this one amp is absolutely perfect for me.
One of the hardwood wicker JP2C’s?
The real question I have is should I get a JP-2C or a Mark III blue stripe?
III.
Love the Gibson shirt, Marko! 👊🏻
talking about value. that´s a 50$ shirt...
I love my JP2C, but I would not have paid $4K for it. I'm glad i got it before the prices got stupid.
