caveat: Personally I am partial to time attack rally (i.e. not rallycross). So I don't really have any favorites for track racing, more or less I think they are all pretty cool even if I don't pay a ton of attention to any one of them in particular. The only thing I really dislike is present almost everywhere, the asinine number of sponsor logos slapped everywhere. Gaudy & kitsch are the words that come to mind in this context.

You heard him listing all the different brands of tools...this is the sign of a true mechanic...I don't care about brand...for example I kept breaking craftsman ratchets so I switched brands until I found one that lasted...I kept having issues with sockets and did the same thing...kept trying different brands until I found what I needed...and to my Surprise, and probably surprising to some of you guys I use a set of kobalt sockets for my everyday stuff just because the sizing is a great compromise between really tight fitting but loose enough that I don't have to pry or beat it off every bolt head that's got a slight amount of crud or rust... nothing has stripped since I've been using them that I consider the sockets fault...yea I stripped a 10mm that was so badly rusted I had to chisel rust off the flats to get a socket on, then use a breaker bar because it was so stuck, yea that stripped but not the sockets fault...I have a set of Proto brand ratchets that I love... relatively fine tooth (not sure of the tooth count) but it's the ratchet I pull out every time I am pulling out the cheater pipe and they still have not lost any teeth...they also have a straight handle with aggressive knurling that's small enough to fit a 11/16 socket over with an extension or my chosen length to use as an adjustable length cheater bar...I prefer Mac tools extractors...I prefer snap on for specialty tools as much as I hate to...they are more refined and tested I think...I'm saving some money now to make a large purchase of some "off brand" tools that seem to be made by the same factory that makes name brand ones...they will go in my boxes with the rest of them and be used the same way...so I will see how they hold up...im not gentle on my stuff...I do a lot of mobile stuff so things get wet...they get dropped in mud puddles I'm laying in during severe storms...if I can handle laying in it and surviving with a good cleaning and once over...my tools should too...

I got to handle a Paoli race impact at the 2017 PRI show. One of those tools where the moment you pick it up, you can just sense the *[chef's kiss]* premium-ness. Lightyears ahead of the hardware store electric impact I use on our short track Modified. Just a shame they only had it on display and not hooked up with a practice stand.
Did get to try a locking refueling rig though. Not sure what kind of car it was meant for, IMSA prototype maybe? It had two butterfly style handles that actuated a rotating ring to lock the rig to the car when you pushed them down and apart. So as a refueler you basically fell on the car with your weight on the rig, then pushed yourself off by the handles and then pulled the rig up after you. Very secure and very easily repeatable.

Just a moment's press on the trigger is enough to get the socket to spin up to its maximum speed or close to it.

Love to see the inside look at Indycar race team tools! You should contact F1 for when they come in town any one of the three times this year and maybe get a team to let you see some of their stuff. Perhaps NASCAR or IMSA as well. This could be a really good series looking at the different tools that race teams use.

It's more about fire safety and efficiency than it is about emissions. Fire safety crews have a much harder time fighting methanol fires because its so difficult to see the fire and they needed special procedures like dry chemical extinguishers or foams. E85 can actually been seen once ignited during daylight and typically can be put out with water much easier than methanol. E85 also has the advantage of requiring less fuel volume to accomplish the same output on the track as methanol, leading to engineering smaller tanks needed in the car and less fuel stops during the race.

I feel like Donut Media is trying to become like MrBeast... the thumbnails, titles, etc. just give off that vibe. The one video uploaded not too long ago about Nolan restoring his project car could've been a multi-part series but it was crammed into only like 15 minutes. What's happening Donut Media!?

  • @johnfreeman2956

@7:18 series adds the current, so it would be a 12v system with many many amps. My guess based on my thoughts and literally 0 information is that they would wire it up in parallel to avoid feeding too much current to the starter, which would put too much force thru the engine while starting. So I think he meant to say "in parallel" and not in series.

    • @stumptownwoodworks

Series indeed does add the voltage, parallel is same voltage adding the current capacity.

Aviation mechanics toolboxes' have to be shadowed out, where the tools are fit into foam, cut out for every tool in the box. The object is simple - to leave no tools in aircraft after maintenance, Lord knows what a loose hydro-spanner can do to a hyperdrive. I'm really amazed that the same doesn't apply to Motorsports. I'd love to see Donut bounce from this episode to an aviation maintenance depot to see their toolboxes; you wanna' talk impressive?!

Comments on Donut videos are so annoying. We all love the old Up To Speed, Wheel House, B2B, etc. videos. But you can't just make endless videos like that. I love that Donut has branched out. A lot of those old series' took lots of time, money, research to make, and doing sponsored videos, TikTok hack videos, etc. helps them create the old series' we love. Just enjoy the fact that Donut is pushing out so much amazing content.
