Still personally rooting for Viggo. Great video! I can’t wait to see Roma win Best Picture - which is incredible. I’ve been waiting all these years to see a comic book movie nominated for this award - and now I’m rooting for Roma.
You can’t tell Adam Driver is a good actor from Star Wars??? He’s literally given the best performance in the entire franchise (OT included). He gives so many layers to a character that could easily be 2-dimensional
Men never see the world with women eyes.....but ROMA will definitely show you how the world looks with women's eyes.....I didn't watched when ROMA was released..I saw today and I was glued for 2 hour 15 minutes on NETFLIX...this movie is pure example of "don't judge the book with cover". MUST WIN OSCAR THIS YEAR...
Yalitza Aparicio nominated for Best Actress for doing absolutely nothing in Roma over amazing performances from Emily Blunt, Toni Collette, Nicole Kidman and Rosamund Pike is a disgrace. Especially Toni Collette who gives an unforgettable performance. She’s currently trending on Twitter. Also, Black Panther nominated for Best Picture is a joke. This nomination is having SO MUCH backlash on social media. At least it doesn’t beat The Dark Knight for the comic book with the most Oscar nominations.
Great work Grace, as usual! Its interesting that little or nothing much has been said about Lynne Ramsay's 'You Were Never Really Here', with Joaqin Phoenix and a great score by Johnny Greenwood. I also feel Viola Davis was excellent in Widows, as was 'Claire Foy' in 'First Man'. I personally think the lead actress in Cold War gave a supreme performance that will stand the test of time. I also think her co-lead, is equally deserving of best actor. I also think that Ruth Wilson in Dark River should be among the best actress nominees. Roma is a masterpiece and at least more people will check it out now, which is great for Arthouse filmmaking. Cold War is also a masterpiece, and only Roma edges it on my best films of 2018 list because of the sheer audacity of Alfonso's endeavour. Shoplifters is in my top 5 of 2018. I worked on Ready Player One so it would be cool to see it get formal recognition for its ambitious visual effects.
I’m pissed Ethan Hawke, Toni Collette, If Beale Street Could Talk, Won’t You Be my Neighbor was snubbed. Particularly, If Beale Street Could Talk for Best Picture, and Girl in the Movies from Dumplin for Best Song.
Grace, this is why I don't care about the Oscars. Specifically around 4:55 you say that Rami Malek should win because Christian Bale already has an Oscar. I don't begrudge you your preference, but I can't bring myself to care about the Oscars, because they don't award for the best performance and achievement. Instead they vote for movies for completely different reasons, which for me completely kills my interest.
Stopped your vid at 1:09. I saw Roma I I want to say December 2017 I was astounded. Needless to say I speak Spanish my culture is mainly Mexican so it spoke Relatable volumes to me. I hoped it would get nominated for at least an Oscar this is Spectacular!
The Favourite is NOT an afterthought! It had the highest no of Oscar noms (10) alongside ROMA. And I personally think it's a better movie than ROMA. And Olivia Colman deserves the Oscar over Close. Best Actress award is not a lifetime achievement award.
Love your Oscar coverage as always! As for Doc, I wouldn't count out Free Solo or Minding The Gap - both of which have incredible stories surrounding them - especially Free Solo because it was terrifying for both the subject and the documentarian to make.
Well but Grace was saying how the Academy votes. She's never said that she shares the same rationale process herself. She's just predicting what will happen on those "will win"
Great vid Grace. I saw Ballad Of Buster Scuggs a week ago and was floored. Awesome movie and very much amongst the best I've seen from them. I'll have to watch RoMa now that its been nominated. Still have to see a few of the others you mentioned too. I can't believe that I've been alive long enough to have seen two remakes of A Star Is Born. Hard to believe the first time around it was Judy Garland that starred.
Black Panther was one of the best reviewed movies of the year, it should not be surprising that it got a best picture nomination lmao people who are outraged, just want to be outraged about something.
Bill Miller Black Panther wasn’t even the best MCU movie last year. The only reason it was so highly rated was because of its cultural impact which, while high, doesn’t make it an amazing movie automatically. The acting, cinematography, soundtrack and especially the special effects all leave something to be desired. If there could be any superhero movie nominated for best picture from last year it should be Spider-verse
I’m not surprised, but you left out one very important word and that’s “hype”. Mission:Impossible had the same RT score as BP, just as critically acclaimed but because BP was the more talked about movie it got the Oscar nom.
Where is McAvoy for playing over 10 characters in two separate films and still being equally amazing in all of them? Honestly, Glass may not be loved but McAvoy was amazing in both Split and Glass. He deserves at least a nod, despite being in a film unlikely to get a win.
Black Panther should never even be nominated for any award of any sort. that horrendous 3rd act alone should be enough to disqualify it from any award nominations. Infinity War was superior to Black Panther in every way imaginable, if a superhero movie was to win best picture it should have been Infinity War, not Black Panther!
Funny i Dont see Roma being the one to beat. It has an uphill battle to climb. Black-white, foreign and Netflix. The aversion towards Netflix is big. Plus it lacks Best Editing nom which diminshes it's chances. Those two are connected. I think either BlackKlansman or the Favourite will win. As for Bradley, he is bound to get something. I can see him winning Actor.
Grace, you have no idea how many statuettes the Favourite will carry home. Hail Yorgos Lanthimos (lA'nthimos, Grace!) ! I'm kidding with the last sentence...
Olivia Colman and Christian Bale have the leads wrapped up in my opinion, but it's all to play for in the supporting roles. I also think The Favourite might take away a few Oscars. How dare you insult Christopher Robin like that! but PADDINGTON 2 SHOULD HAVE BEEN NOMINATED!!!
@burritopuppy 87 You didn't enjoy the music in the movie? 🤔 The drum sounds when they enter wakanda.. The choir chants and all the crazy sounds. It was pretty epic.
Really curious if because it’s on Netflix it means more people are watching it and thus more nominations. I know the audience gets mailers with dvds but by having it on your phone maybe it was watched by more of the academy??
Glad Black Panther had so many nominations. I bet it kills the haters. But I don't get the hating (esp from comic book fans)...I've been a comic book fan since 95/96 and I'm so damn proud to see a superhero movie nominated for best picture. BP was an awesome movie.
The problem is that, even though I enjoyed BP, it doesn't deserve to be the first superhero movie to be nominated. The Dark Knight and Logan are way superior than BP. Infinity War was the best superhero movie of last year but only got the best VFX award. BP is cool, but it is only getting nominated for its cultural impact and not for how good the movie is.
I don't "hate" it. I just don't think there's anything awards worthy about it. There were way better films last year. Hell there were way better superhero films last year.
@@dailyplanet354 IW was the best superhero movie because we are comic book fans and have years of knowledge concerning the characters. BP was a great movie overall (despite the 3rd act).
I've only just begun to watch award shows because of you. Your live tweets are everything! Can't wait. 😁
I just cared about Spider-Man and honestly, it deserved a best picture nomination in my book. I also think it is a way better movie than BP.
Bradley cooper for best actor!!!
The Favourite was a great watch, I really hope Olivia Colman snags it
You can’t overlook Christian Bale for an Oscar just because he already has one.
Adam Driver is so underrated. His performance in star wars is the best part of the trilogy.
Wow was so waiting for this! Thanks Grace 💙
wont you be my neighbor, snubbed
emily blunt for quiet place, snubbed
hereditary fans salty lol
Was waiting for this this! Thanks for all your hard work!
I'm angry that Timothee chalamet hasn't been nominated for beuitful boy his performance broke my heart
Been waiting for this ! I lost it ! Love you Grace :)
For me Widows and Suspiria deserved a lot more love than they got ; /, but it's not like I was surprised to see two exceptional films get snubbed.
I’m pissed Ethan Hawke, Toni Collette, If Beale Street Could Talk, Won’t You Be my Neighbor was snubbed. Particularly, If Beale Street Could Talk for Best Picture, and Girl in the Movies from Dumplin for Best Song.
I hate to admit that when the nominations were announced I totally kept refreshing youtube to see when your video would be up lol. Love your content!
Yes, basically, this year the Oscars are rather questionable. And honestly, oscar or not, pretty sure Bale has this locked in for best actor.
Stopped your vid at 1:09. I saw Roma I I want to say December 2017 I was astounded. Needless to say I speak Spanish my culture is mainly Mexican so it spoke Relatable volumes to me. I hoped it would get nominated for at least an Oscar this is Spectacular!
Did not see you rooting for Bohemian Rhapsody to win Best Picture coming??? Love it! ;)
I’ve been looking forward to this vid all day!
Why win because you need to get at least something? Just win because you're the best.
This is why I don't care about movie awards.
Well but Grace was saying how the Academy votes. She's never said that she shares the same rationale process herself. She's just predicting what will happen on those "will win"
I understand that. It was a remark against the award system itself.
Malek or Bale, the title of Oscar nominee will away stick with you.
Proud of both, especially Rami ❤
Malek the winner!!!!
You really excel at these type of videos, Grace. I ordinarily have a mild interest in the Oscars, but you've got me fully engaged.
Black Panther was one of the best reviewed movies of the year, it should not be surprising that it got a best picture nomination lmao people who are outraged, just want to be outraged about something.
I'm angry bc I hated the movie. I'm a huge superhero fan and it's literally my least favorite Marvel movie yet.
Sean Valentine Or maybe because it did better at the box office
Mr Degenerate that’s your opinion though. It’s in my top 5 of 2018.
Thank you for this video Graze, amazing as always ! I wonder what your notes looks like haha
Where is McAvoy for playing over 10 characters in two separate films and still being equally amazing in all of them?
Honestly, Glass may not be loved but McAvoy was amazing in both Split and Glass. He deserves at least a nod, despite being in a film unlikely to get a win.
Next year, for sure.
Grace you still have that high energy level from your 2009 videos. Keep it up for the quality content.
The Favourite scores 10 Nominations!! Viva la Greece !
Love your videos!! Always part of my day to check your channel!
So one scene in a 2 hour movie should disqualify it? Why?
"it should be him because the other guy already has an Oscar" ..... what?! this isnt kindergarten come the fuck on. the best guy should win. period.
Great rundown. Superb entertainment. (..but who was snubbed in the supporting actress category??)
Grace, you have no idea how many statuettes the Favourite will carry home. Hail Yorgos Lanthimos (lA'nthimos, Grace!) ! I'm kidding with the last sentence...
I'm going to watch as many of these as possible before the ceremony. Even rewatching the ones I've already seen.
Such an in depth look into the oscars! 💙thanks beyond the trailer!
Since I'm Swedish.. I reaaaallly hope Black Panther wins best original score!! Ludwig really hit a home run with the music! 👌😁
I agree, that Black Panther score is amazing. There's nothing close to it.
@burritopuppy 87 You didn't enjoy the music in the movie? 🤔 The drum sounds when they enter wakanda.. The choir chants and all the crazy sounds. It was pretty epic.
burritopuppy 87 the Soundtrack and the SCORE are two DIFFERENT things 💁🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️ at least in Black Panther’s case...
@TonyDracon you're dad must did not love your mother ?
@TonyDracon Here's some attention for you, since that's probably what you were after 👍
Really curious if because it’s on Netflix it means more people are watching it and thus more nominations. I know the audience gets mailers with dvds but by having it on your phone maybe it was watched by more of the academy??
I hope "Avengers: Infinity War" wins because it deserves it after the experience it gave the audience.
If it doesn't win the Oscars lose credibility.
That’s not the way it works...
@@TheIsraelMendoza Unfortunately.
Sometimes I want to buy Grace a monocle when she opens videos like this haha
It had themes that related to almost everyone who watched it. That's why it's been nominated. I don't think it'll win best picture though but it has a shot in some other categories
@@vaporwave4880 really? Nothing award worthy? Production, costumes, music? C'mon man
@@yourmajesty8913 I definitely agree. Atlantis looked amazing. BP's visual effects were okay. Not award worthy
