Question: Do you think that the James Franco snub will have a backlash against Men accused in the Industry and the me too movement? It made me upset of how allegations are creating narratives to stories that might not be true. I felt like he was nominated, and the academy probably threw out his nomination.

You can't complain about Get Out's third act while at the same time insisting Wonder Woman got snubbed.
She's only complaining about that for Best Screenplay, not for any award. She said as much.

I loved Wonder Woman, but other than costume design there wasn't a single thing it deserved to be nominated for over the films that were nominated.

I agree with you. I've read the book and when I thought of him as Oliver I actually thought he was just too handsome it would be distracting. I was glad to find out that 1) I couldn't be more wrong, he was perfectly cast and 2) his character was even richer, more complex and interesting than the book (and I love the book dearly). And that was just his own merit.
I hope he'll get to do something as interesting as that in the future.

I agree. And the movie is hardly mediocre earning 1.23 billion dollars. It was the best musical movie.

Alyssa Anderson the original beats it by a mile ,and it's a animation movie . The greatest showmen's originals are way better.

Would have loved to see a director nomination for Luca Guadagnino, as well as best supporting actor for Michael Stuhlbarg. Really happy for Daniel Kaluuya and Get Out in general. Also think it would have been cool for It to win something make up/costume related but I guess the studio didnt really push the movie for awards season.

Wonder Woman was a solid movie that collapsed in quality and story in it's final act. Get Out is a methodical and brilliantly done movie from start to finish. Wonder Woman seems to get boosted and overrated because it's a female lead, when it should have focused more on being a good quality movie in all acts not just the first two.
Pushing WW because of #womenpower thing would be dumb especially in a year with a lot better comic book movies or the similar movies to say the least.
code3210code you are correct but some people believe that it may get Oscar becoz the other DC movies failed. But for now it doesn't matter if the movie good or not , what matters is what critics say.
Grace you say Saoirse Ronan should win and the reasoning you give is " She has been nominated three times already, so lets give her an oscar and get her career moving". I have to respectfully disagree with this line of reasoning as I feel that the award should go to the best performance out of the five nominees and not for pushing someones career forward.
If there was a clear stand out then obviously I would go with them, but for Best Actress I thought the performances were all on par - good but not perfect or career defining.

Agree. I think BLADE RUNNER is the best film of 2017. Bad box office hurt its awards buzz, which is silly.
I’m glad Logan got nominated and yes I do love Wonder Woman, it is my favorite movie of 2017and 2nd being The Shape of Water; however I hate to say it, but I think WW’s third act severally damaged it when it came to prestige nominations; as well as the unfortunate disappointment of Justice League. Which took any special light away WW had on it and turned the remaining acclaim and light into a little brighter than dim bulb.
I certainly don't think Wonder Woman is award-worthy so I'm not bummed it didn't get any, however, in saying that, Logan for best adapted screenplay, really ? Logan, like Wonder Woman, is a perfectly good Superhero film but very overrated

Frustrated for what ? Tragic for what ? Wonder Woman was a good movie, but that's it. That's why it didn't make the cut, like many over good average movies. Frankly, it's getting tiresome, if the only argument for WW making it to the Oscar is "its legacy" and "what it represents", then yeah, it didn't deserve to be nominated.
I don't know in what universe Wonder Woman would be in the same realm than the Dark Knight quality-wise by the way, that's absurd.

The only thing I'd maybe have nominated Wonder Woman for is Best Original Score (for "No Man's Land"), Production Design (for Themyscira), or Sound Mixing/Editing. But I don't think it was snubbed in any category.

I don't think Hollywood looked at Wonder Woman and said it wasn't important enough, but that it wasn't good enough. And, because of that, it's legacy won't be harmed, at least with respect to it's cultural significance. The Oscars are not a measure of societal impact, but of the value of a film from the perspective of it's worth as a movie. Hence there not being a category for "Represents a major shift within society", but instead categories for cinematography.
The Oscars are 100% a measure of societal impact - Exhibit A: Moonlight's win last year. Certainly not the BEST movie of the year, but incredibly important in shining a much needed light on people of color in the LGBT community.

Animated Feature Film category was the one that annoyed me most
Mary and the Witch's Flower, In This Corner Of The World, A Silent Voice and Your Name (if you went by US release i think it still counts?) all deserved a nomination more than Boss Baby. Hell, I'd rather watch In a Heartbeat 500 times over than a single second of BB. It's a shame because the oscars have nominated non western animations before, some even winning (Spirited Away!) but to completely snub Your Name and A Silent Voice is horrible.
Dani Mary and the Witch's Flower came out too late to be nominated this year, and Your Name is technically from last year (snubbed) but I do agree with A Silent Voice, much better than Boss Baby, then again, there wasn't much competion this year for animation, I would still give it to Coco.
Lego Batman was also snubbed. What is it with the Academy and Lego Movies
If they wanted to pick a DreamWorks movie then pick Captain Underpants the better of the DreamWorks movies last year by far.
Your Name technically would have qualified for last year, and last year was a great year for animation. It didn't have a chance against the Hollywood fare. This year has been a pretty crappy year for animation though, in the US anyway.

Many fanboy friendly movies are not nominated for Oscars but still remain popular. You can be a good movie without being nominated especially since the taste of academy voters is pretty different from that of general audiences. Also, just because it's nominated for an Oscar doesn't mean the movie will remain popular or well regarded in the future. I think Wonder Woman will still be well regarded considering how poorly received the other DC movies have been. Sure, detractors might become more vocal, but I think that is expected for any movie that was really popular for a time.

And i thought Wonder Woman wasn't all that great, i know it had a lot of firsts for cinema, but it didnt resonate as well as other movies did for me. It wasn't as good as all the movies in all the categories. It was *OK* i didnt understand all the hype around it after i watched it.
I disagree with the "twist" in Get Out as said "twist" is an amazing social commentary plot point and Jordan Peele deserves an Oscar for being able to deliver such an interesting, unique, revealing and very present script without sacrificing entertainment. He should win and I hope will win.
She like alot of people who are saying Get Out shouldn't of been nominated, was uncomfortable with the racism in the movie. Hell i remember her hating on the trailer for those same reasons.
Anton Riley It still doesn't mean that the film isn't brilliantly made. And being uncomfortable with films addressing racism doesn't mean that people should ignore it or even (as you say) shit on it - I frankly find that response to be pathetic and wrong.

Diana Exactly ! But, Logan was more of a charactery study and a emotional knock out, and besides emotiones and hand to hand combat those are 2 things Nolan just doesn't know how to do. Sadly. H.Jacman came up with the story, he pushed for it to be made, he produced it, he stared in it and did a damn phenomenal job, better than anything in the Nolan thrilogy, besides Joker, he didn't emote much.
It's not that Wonder Woman wasn't IMPORTANT enough to recognize.. it's the fact that it wasn't GOOD enough. The films that were nominated are FAR better and more deserving than Wonder Woman.

Basically all she had to say about Lady Bird is how it stole Wonder Woman's not-there-to-begin-with chances of being nominated. That's not very nice. But is always interesting to hear her opinion anyway.
I thought it was crazy when she said that. Aside from being female centric/directed movies, Lady Bird and WW have little to nothing in common. They were not competing for the spot, so I don't see how Lady Bird could've stolen anything from WW.
Lady Bird was great and so is Gerwig. It's not that there is no space for women the directing category, it's that Wonder Woman wasn't an amazingly directed film. Gerwig could have easily been taken out for Mcdonagh. Still happy for Gretta though.
James Franco was completely snubbed, but it's not surprising. Hollywood is trying to act shocked and appalled by these accusations, yet most of them have probably also participated in sketchy encounters and career "boosts". They shouldn't get the luxury of acting offended when they've all been keeping these skeletons hidden for decades. But more importantly, this "guilty until proven innocent" mindset is stupid and dangerous.
Effervvescent “Guilt until proven innocent” refers to being prosecuted, not social consequences. Stop trying to use that to add to a counter victimization. I’m not saying James did everything the allegations said he did, it’s just the fallacious counter arguments that need to be called out. Otherwise legit conversations will continue to be dismissed.

What else would you call it when all of mainstream society jumps on a witch hunt "bandwagon" for a man after an accusation that comes with no proof? He is GUILTY in the eyes of society UNTIL some evidence (which is nearly impossible to gather) proves he is INNOCENT. Did capitalizing those words make it easier for you to understand that a phrase can also have an explicit meaning without always being a legal term? That's the whole point of this conversation. Yes I am aware he won it in the end! Leo maybe wasn't the best example.. just tried to think about someone who always gets nominated and is universally recognised as a great actor! My point was that Mr Deakins has been working on some of the best looking movies ever made.. Shawshank for example, highest rated movie of all time. 14 nominations and no wins don't make sense to me.

Blade Runner 2049 = fantastic visual movie. Looks fantastic in 4k Blu-ray.
Wonder Woman as a piece of history and culture is important. But, as a movie it really isn't anything that special. The Oscars have never recognized films for their impact on society, they recognize GOOD movies. At the end of the day, it is a pretty generic superhero film with the added flare of being female-led.

If Winter Soldier never got a nomination, no way would Wonder Woman deserve a nomination. It was a good movie but not great. Being the first successful female superhero movie is a major step forward for women and the genre but the script and material wasn't Oscar worthy.

Frank Marricone What's so unique about wonder woman?? It's the same hero jorney we have seen a milion times, the CGI was unwatchable, the villan is laughable and the fight scenes are just slow motion basically. I honestly think this movie is praised just because the main character is a super powerfull woman. In my honest opinion I think this movie is ok, the pacing is not that great wich makes it a bit boring, Gal Gadot was great, the story besides the “It's her destiny” thing was good, but it *really was not that good*

I don't think the lack of an academy nomination hurts Wonder Woman's reputation/legacy. I think people recognize it as a real historic moment for female representation in media/cinema. How many other iconic movies weren't nominated for Oscars? It's still stands tall in my eyes

historic....ok never got the hype it, doubt it has really made a difference to how woman are seen in media or hollywood, but it was fun at talking about stuff like that at the time the movie itself is extremely forgetful.
Would've liked to see Logan nominated for best actor. Jackman hit all the right notes imo. Don't care if comic book movies are considered low brow art. Then again, awards aren't a surefire way of determining a good movie.

Exactly!!!! I mean I love Gary Oldman....but he got all the other awards. And so what Timmy is young and it's his first...I don't see why that is a problem. It was one of the best performances I've ever seen.
Because Chalamet will have plenty of future chances. Oldman is a veteran and its finally his time.
IreneShardaForever I agree he is a well seasoned actor and has been around for a long time but surely that shouldn't mean that he is guaranteed an award because he's not been fortunate enough to win one in the past. It's her opinion and I respect that but I disagree completely. I thought Get Out was great from beginning to end, while the third act of WW reminded me too much of Captain America: The First Avenger, but I actually liked CATFA third act a little better.

*Get Out did not deserve all the praise.* I admit the screenplay is excellent, definitely earned that one, but everything else? The lead actor even got a nomination, are you kidding me? Compare his performance with everyone else nominated. It's laughable.
I liked the film but it's crazy how much praise it's getting. It's one of the most basic cliche movies I've ever seen. Only good thing in it was the racism and it's not executed as well as it should be

Beyond the trailer Go home you are drunk! Logical problems with Get Out? Are you serious? If you can’t understand it, can’t handle it, it’s not Jordan Peele’s mistake. This is the only category where Get Out 100% gonna win. This script was one of best of this decade. Mesmerizing! I loved it.

Who do you think shoud perform "This is me" at the ceremony? i know usually the original actress who performs it in the movie does it (in this case Chrissy Metz), but given the actual situation in Hollywod of rape/abuse allegations and the popularity of Kesha and her very well-documented situation with her ex-producer, do you think she would be more deserving of performing that song at the oscars? i know she only sings the pop version at the end credits but i think she performing it, would give it more credibility given her backstory. Daniel Day should win. He was freaking amazing. Sally Hawkings - Amazing!!! Should win!!! Shape of water actor for best supporting. Metcalf was awesome in Lady Bird, but I just saw Phantom Thread and she was powerful! She went toe to toe with Daniel Day!!!
