    I do think Villeneuve will get into Director because the category feels kinda empty to me. Like I think Sean Baker and Steve McQueen will get in, but people like Todd Phillips, Edward Berger, Mohammad Rasoulof, and Luca Guadagnino are unsure they’re not locks so I think Villeneuve honestly is a shoe in

    I don't understand why so many people thought Austin Butler had a chance to be nominated for Dune pt 2. He's fine, but it's not a particularly substantial role either in terms of screentime or in terms of characterization and complexity. It's no Chris Hemsworth as Dementus in Furiosa. In fact, I thought the Harkonens were the weakest part of the movie as the most stereotypical villains possible.
    If anyone deserves an acting nomination for Dune pt 2, it's Rebecca Ferguson and Timothee Chalamet,

    When referring to possible nominations for a big film like Dune: Part Two or any other film competing in the filmmaking categories like Cinematography, Sound, Editing, etc… Please just say craft and technical categories. Yes, some aspects of filmmaking are more technical than others, but there’s always a sense of craftsmanship and artistic value that are at the core center that is important never to underestimate.

    Hey Brian! Really enjoyed the video and discussion as always, but I honestly don’t think the early-in-the year argument is quite as valid anymore, especially for Denis Villeneuve. I understand he was inexplicably absent from Director for the first Dune, but this is some Lawrence of Arabia-level quality of filmmaking, and I truly don’t see how they could ignore him this time around. Plus, movies with massive cultural impact like Get Out and Everything Everywhere All at Once have gone onto win major categories, so I think that could be the case with Dune: Part Two in Best Director…

      @@doncasto8520 "only 71%"... since when is 71% a low grade? Beside, this IS an indie movie. It was made with only 15 millions (just to compare: Poor Things costed more than the double), which means that all the 'big stars' did not get a big paycheck and they just wanted to work on a small, indie, and experimental movie from one of the major directors of this time. I recommend to go to watch it at the theatre, because the movie industry NEEDS this kind of movies. If movies like this flop, then less movies like this will be made, which means that there will be less money for the "real good" indie movies out there (assuming that Kinds of Kindness is not "a really good indie movie").

    In my opinion, marketing it as a comedy was a massive mistake. That thing is 100% a horror movie. Every scene, every line of dialogue, every single shot is exquisitely crafted to make the audience uncomfortable. It was by far the most emotionally exhausting experience I've had watching a movie in a long time and although I thought it was worth it, it's completely understandable if it's just not somebody else's thing.

    Zendaya was good but not great
    Luca has Queer that’s where he will be noticed
    ** Dune 2 Amazing movie they have really captured the book personally the only negative was Chani’s character too combative too undermining against Paul she was supposed to be in Love that’s my only criticism I think Vilenuve should win
    Chalamet carried both movies should be notice Dune 2 he really took u thru his experience some of his scenes were spot on perfectly done
    Rebecca Ferguson also helped carry the movie Ferguson & Chalamet are Dune

    Challengers is not making it to the Oscars for best picture, the release date screamed the studio didn't have enough faith in it. Pass Lives I didn't watch it but having a female director and Asian cast is such a selling factor these days.

    • @FrakkinToasterLuvva
      @FrakkinToasterLuvva 10 дней назад +3

      It's such a selling factor that the majority of directors are still white men and the majority of actors nominated are white, and Past Lives ended up not getting a director or acting nomination. And no one cared, but instead whined all over the Internet about Barbie not getting those same nominations.
      Past Lives' selling factor is that it's a great film.

    • @deusexmachina9776
      @deusexmachina9776 10 дней назад +1

      @@FrakkinToasterLuvva America is majority white so yes actors nominated reflect that - also directing is a very complex job that women tend not to chose. it required being in charge which is a masculine trait - women tend to be agreeable. yeah Barbie rode that whole female director feminist wave to the bank - Everything Everywhere All At one had actors mention being Asian American at very speech, lets not act like the Hollywood climate isn't what it is

      It will get score and screenplay definitely. Z for best actress is a possibility. The release date has nothing to do with faith. It probably wasn't ready for release to be considered for 2023 nominations. And waiting until after September this year to release it is ridiculous

    Dune Part 2 most overrated movie of 2024 so far. Kinds of Kindness should get 0 nominations, it was terrible. Inside Out 2 will get a nomination, but it is not win worthy in my opinion. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes was average, do not know about VFX though. Weak year for Oscar movies so far, but good movies like Godzilla x Kong, Argylle, Madame Web, Daddio, One Life, Young Woman & the Sea exist.
