I’ve had my eye on this lens since it was announced like 2 weeks ago. I think i’ve made up my mind, this one might take the win. The Sigma 85mm might be better but for the price point, this aurora series wins. I’ve had the Sirui 50 mm Anamorphic and I love it so much, hopefully this one lives up to the hype.
Thanks man, happy to have you here! I didn't expect to like this lens as much as I do. For me, it's not gonna be an EDC lens but I look forward to use it again and again.
I've been watching reviews of this lens all week and I just don't understand how this thing can exist. Its spectacular at the price point. My brain doesn't even understand how it can be this good. I really hope it isn't because the lens is built really cheaply internally and will stop working in a year. Regardless, as someone who has been considering buying the Nikon 85 1.2 Z for a while, it just seems bonkers that this lens can be had for a fifth of the price and is nearly as good. (Yes I know the Nikon will focus faster, is a bit sharper, a bit faster, and handles flare better). But in terms of real world results, in most situations, this thing is scary close and its size is so appealing. The biggest thing that has kept me from buying the Nikon is its weight. Of course... I also have the other conundrum of Sirui also launching that 40mm 1.8 Anamorphic autofocus in a couple weeks that looks like it is also insanely amazing value... ;) Sirui looks like it is about to change the photo industry in the same way Sigma did back when the ART line showed up.
Thank you for commenting Ryan! After the fashion shoot was over I had a long chat with the photographer and he told me the same thing. The relationship between price and performance is pretty insane. While I can't say anything about the lenses internals it really feels like they focused on the most important parts like CA control, form factor and beautiful bokeh. I didn't know about the upcoming anamorphic lens. Should check that out asap!
Chinese glass is getting good and cheap. You are right it's going to flip the market. I just picked up a 35, 50, 85 AF 1.8 set from Meike for $550 bucks. There is def better build quality out there but for someone who needed a full set of AF lenses better than the kit lens they are incredible. Sirui is even better I grabbed the 16 mm nightwalker and it feels so premium its nuts!
@@MarcelGlas Yeah, they announced it on the weekend, I don't think any reviews are out yet. Its an exciting one for sure if it performs like a real anamorphic but has Autofocus and is under $1000.
@@BassDad-TV Yeah, for real. Like cheap Chinese glass has always been a thing, but its always been really junky and never had AF. But this new generation of it seems fantastic. Sirui, Loawa, Mieke, etc all seem to be doing it at a much higher level of quality than the older ones like Rokinon and Yongnuo.
@@ryancooper3629 I gotta get one of those autofocus anamorphic lenses I was just thinking about one but since I film myself a lot manual isn’t always the best choice.
You're absolutely right to be cautious when it comes to watching any review. If this is a no got to you, then this video unfortunately isn't for you. That said, the visuals and factual information are still useful for someone who might be interested.
Let me tell you how free will works , if anything bad is said about the product that was sent to you for free , the brand stops you sending products in the future , look how unbox therapy does not get iPhones , so take this video with pinch of salt 😅
And yet you do see me talk about the cons of this lens. Lately people act like everyone who chooses to accept a product in exchange for a review has lost their spine, which tells me that they have no idea how most people in this industry actually earn their living. A video like this takes weeks to produce. In return I get to keep a budget lens which can be bought for 500$. Where I live I have to pay taxes on these things making it even less of a financial incentive. If all of this was just a confusing scheme to rip people of I'd much rather avoid all the unwaranted negativity and work more.
Video quality goes through the roof.
Thanks a ton man! 🙌
one of this best review out there! thank you for the insights!
You're welcome man! 🙌

solid video...subbed
@@BassDad-TV Thanks a ton 🙌 happy to welcome you!
How to properly pronounce it "soo ray" or "see rooy"?
I'm fairly certain I've heard someone working at Sirui pronounce it as "soo ray" during an interview but everyone seems to do it differently. 😅
@@MarcelGlas thanks for the info!
@ You're welcome!
@Sirui... make it for Canon RF please 😢
@@mostlymessingabout can they? I thought cannon didn’t want anyone making glass for their cameras?
That sounds even harder than us switching system.
Unless you’re buying with your hard earned money, it’s never unbiased opinion. Free lens and you get to keep it. I don’t trust anything you say.
