Another review idea: S&W SD9 2.0 they fixed the trigger. And or the SD9 Gen1 and install the Apex trigger kit (new shoe and springs). Maybe you see them on sale or 2nd hand for a smoking deal.
This is an EXCELLENT 380! It's about time SOMEONE has designed a hi-cap, light weight, well made Micro-compact 380 that is actually shoot-able like a full size pistol. I have two. One without an external safety and one with the external safety. This is an AMAZING little pistol. It is light years ahead of the Ruger Max which I also have, and half the weight, much thinner, and over all smaller than my Sig 365. I like it much more than my Sig 365. Both new Bodyguards have about 400 rounds between the two. 100 rounds of that was cheapy "Seargeant Major" Russian nickel plated steel case that ran well also. One was finicky with the first few magazines (3 mags), but after that 100% The other 100% from the start. My Sig 365 was also finicky as was my Ruger Max. These little pistols need some breaking in when new. 95 grain hard ball ammo is all you need. The fancy pants ammo is not needed, but If you find something you like, then roll with it. I prefer smaller caliber pistols and this is the 380 you want if your looking for one (my opinion), and it's the 380 everybody wants too and should have produced. If your wondering, This little pistol weighs 11 5/8 ounces with empty 12 round magazine. The Sig is 15.7 ounces with empty 10 round magazine. P-L-U-S... the Bodyguard 2.0 is much thinner and definitely smaller than the Sig. I'm not hacking on Sig, they're just not the perfect pistol in this category. Not even close. Ruger should just stop making the Max. Another neat little plus is that the 2.0 fits the early Bodyguard kydex holsters PERFECTLY like the Amberide kydex IWB.
Great info thanks! I general don't want an extra safety but for this and potential for extreme concealment that seems to have a role. Do you recommend external safety or without? And drawbacks to your safety version?
Will you use this in place of your 365? Or use both? I'm considering this as a first gun but concerned from what I hear about 380 ACP lack of stopping power. I'm a newbie.
@@dsha2006 I would suggest taking your time and look at everything that might fit YOU. Just like a pair of shoes. Don't get sucked into purchasing something that will give you buyers remorse. Salesmen, friends, family, etc like to pick out YOUR new gun. Remember that YOU are the one that has to conceal it, pack it around, and hopefully never use it. To answer your question, YES this will be in my rotation of fire arms to carry. My Sig 365 is for sale. Or back in the safe. I like thin. LIGHTWEIGHT, reliable pistols of smaller calibers. Carrying a heavy pistol around all day sucks and makes you want to leave it at home. That's a bad thing. I don't get into caliber wars. I love the 9mm and 380. Micro 9mm pistols can get pretty snappy. I like control over that pistol I carry. The Sig 365 is sweet, but I don't care for the grip. It's also twice the weight. Thicker and over all larger than my Bodyguard 2.0. As for the 380 cartridge itself, it works for for me. I don't carry the fancy cartridges, just 95 grain hard ball. There are lots and lots of dead people that say the 380 works pretty good. My other best friends that I carry are a double action hammerless AirLite revolver or a LCR revolver in 22LR or 22 Magnum. Now go shopping and take notes. Have fun.
@@Joeak74 thanks. I lean toward your way of thinking. I like the idea of small and compact and really enjoying it as opposed to feeling it's a bit too heavy or has a bit too much recoil. Is 380 ammo quite a bit more than 9mm? perhaps you could suggest a 380 ammo for practice (good but affordable) and one that is best for self defense. but perhaps it's recommended you practice with what ur gonna use in an emergency?
Looks like a good 380 auto and EDC. Very tight group! Especially with that 'airy' rear sight. Some owners got out of spec recoil springs and guide rods and asked for new ones. The springs were coming off the guide rod end cap, and or simply jamming inside. Why the spring would suddenly stop working or so hard to rack. Some were able to fix theirs by pushing the spring back down on the guide rod with a flat head screw driver. Then it can compresses as normal. Also QC issues with the mag followers. Open the mags and give a quick clean and wipe. Clip / sand off any excess burrs and horns on the follower that get stuck on the mag tube holes. Resect and appreciate your honesty. Buying it yourself and putting in the time and effort. Good hands on review 👍
I always learn something here, even if it's not my "type" of gun. Retired pistolsmith Grant Cunningham always recommended that older shooters widen rear sights if possible. Now Smith has produced a gun with a wide rear sight and you reported on the experience of using it. Many thanks.
I have the same issues with the spring and guide rod when putting mine back together. I think the tolerances are just so tight on this small thing that stuff like that is inevitable. I honestly ended up putting the rod and spring back in first because it has to be perfectly straight, and then compressing the spring and shimmying the barrel in. Who knows if that was the “correct” way to do it but it worked.
I had that problem with the spring too originally, but it seems to have gotten a lot better after I shot it. Also, the magazines are super hard to load. I actually had to file off one of my followers at the bottom because it kept popping through the little hole on the magazine and catching.
I just acquired one. Many early videos say that it's shooting left from the factory. My sights have been drifted right and it looks like they're now addressing it at the factory. Lots of fun the shoot. It's my new pocket carry.
Take the spring back out and rotate the recoil spring a little and it will go right in. Field stripped both mine and my wife’s BG 2.0 and both were able to be reassembled in the range. Have not had an issue with either gun.
I’m still struggling w spring, got it once. 2nd go NFG - think I’ll let the armorer gents twirl on the challenge. Makes their day. Then I’ll hopefully shoot 500 rounds to let the metals heat up & bang into compatible submission so I can be assured reliable -TBD
I had the same issue with both of my BG2.0’s. I have a non-safety for myself, and my wife has the safety model. The dang recoil spring was a bi@ch the first time putting it back together. I now have close to 700 rounds through mine, and my wife has 300+. They got together much easier. The slide stop/release gets easier with use as well. The only thing that hasn’t gotten a whole lot easier is loading 12 rounds into the 12 round mag without an assist from my uplula. Either way, I really like this little firearm. I personally prefer the flush mags, while my wife likes the 12 rounders.
I picked up the Bodyguard 2.0 last week and I love mine. So far, the only issues I have had is the last round slide lock back, it does not always happen. I could easily be riding the slide release though, because when I pay attention to my grip, it works fine, so I am leaning towards a "me" issue. 🤷♂ The only other thing I noticed, she gets hot fast,🥵 and hot enough where I am thinking I might not need more magazines after all, this ensures the gun gets at least a cool down for the reload. The gun I have that is the most comparable to this one is the S&W Equalizer, they both shoot very much the same, but the Equalizer being a 9mm is obviously larger, and also easier to manipulate than the Bodyguard, but the Bodyguard is significantly smaller.👍 Thankfully, the UpLula loader included with the Equalizer also works on 380 because those magazines are stiff.😱 Good review👊
The spring going back in just takes a little bit of breakin. The front of the guide rod is such a tight fit in the frame at first, especially going in at that angle.
Liked the review. I picked one up several days ago. Had the same problem with the recoil spring. I took the barrel out and just worked that spring in and out for a couple of days. Seats perfect now.
I always get my new guns and take them apart and make sure they’ve got some oil in the rails and in the right places because of dry gun does not function as well. But I got the 2.0 and I love it and it did I have some oil already on the rails. I think manufacturers are realizing that people just pull them right out of the box and shoot them, but I don’t like to do that, but I did have a couple of failures to feed in my first few magazines, but after that, it’s been perfect
My concern is because the shorter barrel compared to the Glock 42 does make a difference in energy at the muzzle. The 380 needs all the velocity it can muster and according to the AI app, ChatGpt, the half inch barrel difference results in 18 ft lbs of energy reduction in the Bodyguard 2.0.
900 fps tends to be a key threshold for most defensive .380 hollowpoints - the Hornady 90gr XTP, for one, really struggles to expand below that velocity. The extra half inch of a Glock 42 barrel compared to the very short barrels on the LCP (and this S&W pistol) really matters with this. If we could just get a Glock 42x with the expanded capacity combined with the superior 3.25” barrel, that’d be the .380 for me.
@FMDad-dm5qo 200% agreed...a glock 42 with a 10 round and a optional 12 round magazine with that 3.25 inch polygonal marksman barrel would give superior handling and ballistic performance over 2.75 inch barrels.....probably boosting velocities an additional 50 fps or better ...Glock are you listening?????
When it comes to anything firearms related, especially ESPECIALLY, if you load ammo. Do not trust ANYTHING any of the AI apps say on the matter. I've seen people get some terrible data and treat it as good. I've seen things like saying some powders are interchangeable, when one would be a massive overcharge and potentially blow apart a firearm. Just don't.
I had the same issue with the spring and just chalked it up to being new. Spot on review of the overall quality, shoot ability, and ergonomics of the Bodyguard 2.0! It's definitely a game changer for super deep concealment!!
I think the BG 2.0 is the best designed micro .380 ever made. No other guns compare. I hope other companies come out with similar options, but at the same time, I hope S&W doesn't get stepped on though. I hope they get good sales before other companies start producing their own versions. I really love the S&W finish too though, so it's going to be hard for other gun companies to compete. I'm legitimately surprised to see how well S&W firearms hold up to long term abuse and wear. There are also no real cons with the BG2.0 either... so it's not like other companies can create their own versions with upgrades and new features, like S&W did with this gun. They pretty much got the LCP Max and improved just about every single thing that could be improved. Yeah, I guess future technology might improve also and optic ready models might come out too... but for a basic gun, it's hard to imagine anything better will come out. (Unless someone wants a SAO with a manual safety or something like that... or a DA/SA, etc...).
I just got one last week. I had the same issue trying to put the spring back in. Yours looks easy to lock the slide back. Mine is nearly impossible to. That’s my only complaint.
I checked this out at my local gun shop and I couldn’t believe how thin it was. The fit in the hand was so nice and so much better than my LCPMax. Im trading up for sure.
I've had problems putting it back together also. Try using one hand to decompress the spring itself while pushing the end of the guide rod with the other. It can help.
Great review. Loved my LCP Max. Unfortunately it’s now sitting in my safe. This gun just feels great in the hand. Almost locks itself in naturally from the holster. Have mine loaded with underwood xtreme defenders. Gun has been flawless so far with roughly 200 rounds through it.
@@wyominggunprojectI have 2 M&P BG’s 1.0 and they have always worked fine for me.The fact the some folks don’t like a long double action pull like a revolver doesn’t make it a piece of crap.Sad to hear you think that mine and a lot of others are pieces of junk.
@@RickGrimes357 that is just my opinion on my negative experiences with the BG 1.0 you are free to disagree and I am glad you still enjoy yours and I hope it continues to give you years of reliable service. Got one recently, but haven't fired it yet.. It is difficult to take apart and put back together. Have really jerk it apart 😮 Hopefully it will be better after a break in 😉👍
I own the Glock 42 who’d I carry doing the summer because it’s very concealable, but I just ordered the 2.0 probably be here in a couple of days. I do like the extra round I do like the shield guns. I also carry the shield plus performance center, which is a great guy very accurate easy to shoot.
I bought this SW-BG 2.0 pistol a few days ago to have another 380 aside from my Ruger LCP Max and I have to say they both shoot equally good. I like the fact the slide racks back easier on the LCP Max and I like the fact that the trigger guard is bigger on the LCP Max for my motorcycle gloves cus the SW BG 2.0's trigger guard is a little too small for my motorcycle gloves. I like the fact that my LCP Max is significantly smaller and it conceals a little better in my front pocket. But at the end u can't go wrong with either of them. Thanks for sharing.
I’m very familiar with trigger weights and that’s about a 5 1/2 pound trigger. I tested it on my gauge and that’s what it said and that’s what it feels like. I have some guns that are four and 4 1/2 pounds and you can really tell the difference between those and this one it’ll break in though and get to beat down to about 5 pounds Too late you don’t want it too light for your Carry gun
Great review, maybe a little breaking in , with that field striping / putting back together might help , just saying,, anyhow love the video, have a great day!!
@@wyominggunproject I’m sure after everyone puts through a few hundred rounds it’ll get easier which ever way 👍🏻 Whatever the case, loving this thing! Nice review too 👌🏻
@@wyominggunproject I figured it out! The front needs to be seated properly into the slide first and then it’s a cake walk. Nothing to do with which direction it goes onto the barrel. 👍🏻
Hey brother great video and review Sir. Thanks for sharing captain. I am, actually thinking about adding this gun to my collection, but I do own the Glock 42 .380 ACP and that gun is very snappy while shooting it. I actually believe this gun is also snappy for it’s size. Great review overall. You got yourself a new supporter here. I would appreciate support if possible!!!
Solid review. I'm thinking about getting something smaller than a 9mm as a backup gun. I may have to check this one out. Also, I bought some grips from Browne works for my Rock Island M200 and it looks so much better than the original plastic grips.
Awesome. Glad to hear you like the grips. The Bodyguard 2.0 is really awesome man. If you get a chance to even hold one in your gun store I think you will be impressed.
The Glock could have more capacity if Glock would redesign the mags for them. If they dispensed with the poly wrap and widened the steel tube, they'd have a similar capacity. Glock won't do that though because they would need to change the mag release to steel, along with changes to production. Glock makes guns as cheaply as they can and changing production or tooling is not something they are interested in, as that eats into the bottom line. They leave it up to third party manufactures to make questionably reliable mags. A lot of other companies are adapting and giving people what they want, while Glock is stuck in the past. When it eats into Glocks profit margin enough, they will adapt as well.

I have Smith mags that are still hard to load after 20 years of being loaded almost constantly. I don't know why they do that when they have proven it's not necessary with the shield ez
Brotherman! Good video. Was thinking about one of the new Glock 25’s then this came out and I got a chub for this over the full sized Glock that I’m really not much of a fan for. I’ll probably be having one of these pretty shortly.
Sorry, but the original bodyguard was NOT a horrible gun. It shot fantastic. Was very accurate. Had a last round hold open. Could replace the sights. It was very well made. Even the trigger which many people complained about, was actually really good as it broke predictably at the very end of the pull. They're just two very different guns. That being said, I am really looking forward to getting the new 2.0, ayi have one on order right now.
I guess you missed the part at 21:38 in the video where I say in ENGLISH that I was shooting from 7 yards. If you’re gonna leave a comment at least know what the fvck you’re talking about clown shoes 🤡
@@boblaws9851 I agree for the most part, but it’s nice to have the case if you’re going to transport it for some reason and you don’t want to (or can’t) carry it on your person for whatever reason.
This is the type gun that should be made in 30 super carry. The .380 is the cartridge it should compete with, not 9mm. It's much more powerful than .380 not as powerful as 9mm. Smith missed the boat how it marketed the bullet and which guns to made to shoot it.
I agree except 30 Super Carry is a little bit longer than 9mm and has a lot more pressure so it’s hard to squeeze it in a gun this small. It would be excellent for sure if it was possible. Now whatever company can come up with that size of a gun in 30 Super Carry will have a winner. 🤠
But try to find a holster or extra mags. Orange sight is dumb. The human eye picks up yellow more than any other color. Mine shoots left, no matter what I do. 4 inches left at 7yrds. That's a problem.
Interesting - but doesn’t appear to be a game changer. Another striker fired plastic pistol with all of the associated safety issues the original bodyguard solved. I think I’ll pass on this one - at least in the near term - and use the original.
He bought it himself. How is that some conspiracy of RUclipsrs. Yup, it’s a new gun. What’s wrong with him wanting it? He will make 1/100th of the cost of this gun from his review from RUclips. Clearly he is doing this because he thought the gun would be good not because he is trying to push S&W or is paid to do something. This is a ridiculous comment.
I am sorry you are disappointed Henry but I was genuinely interested in the pistol so I purchased it for my personal collection and I am sharing that experience with you guys. I have absolutely no reason to say favorable things about the gun. I never said best thing ever but it is a very good carry 380 and I believe it beats all small 380 handguns currently on the market. Thanks for the comment Henry 🤠
Ok I apologize. I guess I assumed that your video, coming out the exact time as the dozens of other bodyguard vids, made it part of Smith's PR drive. Much like the Remington R51, Springfield Echelon and such. I value you/your channel as you maintain a unconnected base that makes your reviews truthful.@@wyominggunproject

I experienced the same thing just not that time in the video. I gave me fits trying to get it back together.
If you feel the same vibe that most people did on this gun, you’ll be pleasantly surprised when you take it home!
I love mine, great little gun. One thing I did not notice is the trigger safety would hang up if I didnt pull straight back on it.
I haven’t had that issue yet. Hopefully I won’t ever have it .
I'm a Glock guy through and through but I take my hat off to S&W for this design.
Looking to get the BG2.0 soon. Still love my BG1.0, the trigger is a perfect match for revolvers.
Good video thanks! S&W seems to have come out with a winner in this baby! Wasn't even aware of this a few weeks ago now I want one haha wild.
I checked this out at my local gun shop and I couldn’t believe how thin it was. The fit in the hand was so nice and so much better than my LCPMax. Im trading up for sure.
I will never shoot my LCP my LCP Max again...
Gonna get one for myself for Christmas 😅 Will keep my LCP MAX and other LCPs as I like them as well 👍👍😉
Hell Yeah! Merry Christmas 🤘🏻
Not every gun is made for everyone which is why we have so many great choices nowadays. Take care my friend 🤠
Thanks for watching brother 🤠
Not sure why, but I do get a kick out of watching people's eyes when they fire a weapon, no blink, good job dude! 👍
The spring *is* an issue. Very difficult to put back in.
This was an excellent, and entertaining, review. I agree! I also have a BG 2.0, and it is absolutely fantastic. Big win by S&W.
Agree 💯
Great review, maybe a little breaking in , with that field striping / putting back together might help , just saying,, anyhow love the video, have a great day!!
You have a great day too sir. 🤠
How many inches were you away from the shoot and see target?
The spring was easier to go in from the side instead of the top for me. ymmv
I will have to try that.
@@wyominggunproject I’m sure after everyone puts through a few hundred rounds it’ll get easier which ever way 👍🏻
Whatever the case, loving this thing! Nice review too 👌🏻
@@RayRayWasAGoodBoy thanks man 🙏🏻
@@wyominggunproject I figured it out! The front needs to be seated properly into the slide first and then it’s a cake walk. Nothing to do with which direction it goes onto the barrel. 👍🏻
You’re a group was amazing. Mine seems to shoot a little left and it might just be me, but that was an amazing group you got with that gun.
Thanks man 🤠
Hey brother great video and review Sir.
Agreed 👍🏻
Excellent review. Thanks!
Great video, I really appreciate the perspective.

Best review I've seen on this baby 👍🏾
Thanks man. 🙏🏻
I have Smith mags that are still hard to load after 20 years of being loaded almost constantly. I don't know why they do that when they have proven it's not necessary with the shield ez
Awesome! I hope S&W comes out with a .22lr version too!
That would be cool 😎
A 32 version would be great
Great video. Thanks
Brotherman! Good video.
Was thinking about one of the new Glock 25’s then this came out and I got a chub for this over the full sized Glock that I’m really not much of a fan for.
I’ll probably be having one of these pretty shortly.
Nice man. I think you will enjoy it
Great video, fantastic review!!
Thank You Sir 🤠
Trigger guard looks really small - any problems in that regard?
No sir. But could see some possible problems while wearing gloves.
I want to see unsponsored and unaffiliated reviews. Thanks! Are the sights replaceable? Subbed.
Thanks for watching. Yes the sights are replaceable. 🤠
Great review! Thank you
Thanks for watching 🤠
Sorry, but the original bodyguard was NOT a horrible gun. It shot fantastic. Was very accurate. Had a last round hold open. Could replace the sights. It was very well made. Even the trigger which many people complained about, was actually really good as it broke predictably at the very end of the pull. They're just two very different guns. That being said, I am really looking forward to getting the new 2.0, ayi have one on order right now.
Agree to disagree on the original bodyguard my friend. 🤠
Conjunction junction, what's your function?
Hooking up words and phrases and clauses 🤣
Great review!
Thanks man 🤠
Accuracy increases due to the School of Rock. We continue firing until morale improves! Great video, Brother.
Conjunction junction what’s your function? 🤣
It's Magic
How far were you away from the Target for accuracy? You going to tell the story tell the whole thing?
I guess you missed the part at 21:38 in the video where I say in ENGLISH that I was shooting from 7 yards. If you’re gonna leave a comment at least know what the fvck you’re talking about clown shoes 🤡
@@wyominggunproject kiss my grits b****
Fun stuff, thanks.
Thanks for watching sir.
Real torture is being in vacation and mine being at the gun shop ready to pick up when I get back in town 😫😫😫😫
Oh No! That does suck 🤠
I like the new Body guard 2.0 and I also have the older Body Guard which I love and is my main EDC. Not crap at all!!!
that’s a shield mini
Now if S&W can package this BG in a 30 supercarry!
I’d be all over it.
Great gun! Going to shoot mine tomorrow. Side note, nice Grand Seiko!!!
Glocks come with a nice hard case. Smiths come with a cardboard box…..kinda sad
Ture, but for the same price for double the capacity and a smaller size, it's BG 2.0 FTW.
Who cares? Who keeps their firearm in the case? It's either in a holster, or in the safe. Boxes and cases are in a closet.
The Ruger LCP Max is actually smaller in dimensions and lighter make it even more concealable!
But try to find a holster or extra mags. Orange sight is dumb. The human eye picks up yellow more than any other color. Mine shoots left, no matter what I do. 4 inches left at 7yrds. That's a problem.
The left shooting is most likely you and your grip. Some people, including myself like the orange/tritium front sight
I dig the orange front sight too. Really pops out for me.
So drift your front sight and zero it in. Not hard... Not a "problem".
25 yards 25 feet 25 miles. What
Interesting - but doesn’t appear to be a game changer. Another striker fired plastic pistol with all of the associated safety issues the original bodyguard solved. I think I’ll pass on this one - at least in the near term - and use the original.
Safety issues??? Do tell...... lol
Game changer?? Not hardly!! Nothing special about it at all. A lot of gun people go crazy over the new hotness in guns.
RUclipsrs are drowning us in Smith Bodyguard best thing ever. Didn't think you'd be one of them. Disappointed.......
Thanks TBP. Couldn’t have said it better myself.
@@henryschmidt636 no worries man. I get it. A lot of people are jaded by RUclips reviews and reviewers and for good reason. There are alot of “shills” out there that just give positive reviews for money.
I carried mine for the first time today after getting my holster from Muddy River Tactical yesterday, was going to take it to a range but forgot it's the weekend and stores are doing CPL classes and I got there too late. Still it fit really well in front pocket of my shorts even though the pockets aren't the deepest, only way anyone could tell is if they pulled the pocket open a little and looked in it.
I had that problem with the spring too originally, but it seems to have gotten a lot better after I shot it. Also, the magazines are super hard to load. I actually had to file off one of my followers at the bottom because it kept popping through the little hole on the magazine and catching.
