I didn't say it clearly enough I guess haha. The one commentator is very good actually, but the other just seems like he's talking loud is what I meant. Like he kind of has the tone that he's yelling. Like I said though, great coverage and I'm sure the announcing with get even better with more videos and footage.
I was there in person watching their card, and both of those guys are very classy especially Sean. Cannot say the same about Mr. Lacastro, that guy is a piece of work...he made a bad shot and turned around to the gallery, first yelled a profanity and then he kicked a pine cone that ended up hitting my dog.
It's hard to tell from the angle but Nikko is well outside the circle (10 Meters). In National Tour events the Tournament Director will paint or mark the 10 Meter circle but in smaller events you ask the other players if you are inside or outside the circle. Jump Putting is permitted outside the circle. In a PDGA event, on the lead card, a player doesn't usually just take liberty with jump putting unless you are clearly way outside the circle.
This is one of the better tournament videos I have seen. I enjoyed the commentary immensely. I appreciated how excited the commentators were which in turn made me more excited.
Don't listen to any of these haters guys, long time Pier native, this is great footage and fun, enthusiastic commentary, I'll take it over Disc Golf monthly any day.
Overall really good coverage and enjoyable to watch. However, the more excited commentator seemed like he was meeting a celebrity every time he announced a player. A little less blasting in the face and a bit more relaxed technical commentary would make this top notch.
I literally had to turn it off. This is GREAT coverage and good commentary, but PLEASE FOR THE LOVE, change your delivery style. I promise you'll get more likes.
Nikko's putt at 32:00 is well outside the 10 meter circle. He blew by the basket for an ace run. His ace run nearly cost him a birdie, with the basket perched on a hill, he flew well past the basket. James Moore's putt is closer to being inside or right near the 10 meter line.
Paul McBeth came and played at a local b-tier down here in central Oklahoma a few weeks ago. A local pro, who hasn't even been pro that long, nearly beat him. It took Paul playing well in the final nine and the local guy collapsing for the World Champ to win a b-tier by just one stroke.
I'm aware of all the dribble you mentioned but in my opinion the apparent distance, due to the scaling of Nikko vs basket, as well as the time the disc takes to get to the basket both seem consistent with a 10+m putt. If your lie is beyond the circle you can finish inside the circle so it doesn't matter if "he jumped well over at release." Also, Nikko will often putt from oustide the circle's edge without jumping (granted this is uphill) so if he's jumping it's more likely to be well outside.
Yes! Your discs are probably too overstable so you're forcing it over instead of letting the disc do it's thing. Try a less overstable disc and make sure your thumb position stays the same throughout your swing. Don't rotate your wrist like turning the key to unlock your front door. If you're right handed your thumb should always remain on the left side. If your thumb is up after the release, like "thumbs up," then you are rolling your wrist.
You clearly commented this after the video was taken. That being said, it would be nice if you didn't ruin every good putt by getting all excited before he throws.. I knew every putt before happened.. Left nothing for the watcher..
I think you missed the point of the comment. He was pointing out that nikko was in the air when he released the disc. And he is correct that you still have to be on the ground when you release the disc and going into the air can occur after that. So, it was not illegal to perform a jump putt, but the rules state that the disc must be released before you are airborne.
The problem is that he is outside the circle. Count his steps after finishing the putt. He takes 6-7 steps when the video cuts and clearly has at least 4 more to go. Which would put him outside the circle. Also, you must assume he asked the rest of the card if he was outside the circle prior to putting to gain their permission to jump putt.
I always look forward to seeing a video by Steven Yang. I first saw the 2007 Rose City Open on DVD and am glad to see Nate Sexton still playing well. And it's always great to see Nikko on film, though it's too bad he wan't in top form. More Gateway plastic, maybe. :-)
This link from late 2010 might help answer the question about what Nikko Locastro used at the tournament. Hope this helps. If not no worries... Couldn't paste the link, so feel free to type "Nikko Locastro - Whats in the Bag of the #1 ranked player in the World?" if you don't see it in the menu.
Are you guys on location when filming?? Great video by the way I have been looking for some tournament footage to watch some mechanics since I started playing two years ago, a little bloomer.
Sorry for the loud commentary. I am integrating new hardware into the production chain and on this video the commentary track got pushed up in volume during export. I will correct this in future videos. The upload time for a video this long is over 20 hours so I'm not sure redoing it is the best option. Please adjust volume with your volume control thanks!
B Tier events are generally local events. A Tiers are multi state events. NT Tour events draw international competitors. You are missing the point completely. The whole point of playing a disc golf tournament is to find out how you "stack up" with the best players in your city, state, and the top 10 in the world. Have you ever met or hung out with Nikko? Don't judge top professional pros personalities based on how they behave on the course while they are playing below their player rating.
40:12 seconds in Scott's putt is a HUGE!! foot fault...can't believe no one noticed..he's already running towards the basket before he releases this disc...WOW!
If you actually have a grasp on the rules, this is legal.. he is well beyond the 10 meter rule even with the camera angle.. Nikko isn't an idiot, and others would call him out if they thought he was "inside" - and "this is a serious problem" - for who? For you because you can't jump putt? This shot has been around for God-only-knows how many years and YOU think it should be taken out of tournaments.. who the hell are you sir?
I'd like to revisit your comment "his stance was legal but he jumped way over at release;" it sounds like you're not understanding the rule. The starting point, your lie, is all that matters regarding distance from the pin. I thought you were trolling me when you said with confidence it was a 31' 6" putt. Then you went on to cite more complaints about his character, all of which was irrelevant to the putt in question. I'm no Nikko fan-boy but I do like watching him throw because he's very good.
25:22 that's does it. the next tourney i play, i am going to demand there be a girl to feed me orange slices. that has to do wonders for your confidence.
Recap: You said the putt was a foot fault and I questioned that opinion. First you cited a bunch of irrelevant stuff (that I'm not disputing) and then you insisted he was inside the circle while admitting nothing else looked illegal about the putt. Okay, I guess, if you want to believe that. Although, I would say the distance of the player's lie is one of the hardest things to discern from a head-on perspective on "distorted" video.
In basketball if you jump from behind the 3 and let go before you land inside the three it's still a damn 3. And in golf the happy Gilmore style isn't illegal, it's just not a good shot. And in every other throw beyond 30 feet, you can step through as long as you have released before you land, not just the hump putt. Soooo how is the jump putt bad for the sport?
If you pause it at 2:00 minutes, you can clearly see the disc out of his hand while his foot is still on the ground. Legal shot. I like your name though. Mmmm bacon...
I just simply disagree with your opinion on this putt. Apparently you have some reason to hate Nikko and that’s fine. I laugh about him being a hothead when I’m watching him play. Of course there’s a level of poor sportsmanship there, but he’s still impressive to watch. I don’t idolize him; but I don’t doubt every putt he makes without sufficient reason, either. Just keep your hate train rolling, I won’t be revisiting this conversation.
at 1:58 of the video the gentleman with black pants with red stripe made an illegal shot. He was flying in the air toward the basket before the disc left his hand. It has to have his support foot planted behind his mini at the time the disc leaves his hand. This is a serious problem in disc golf and too many golfers are allowed to shot this shot in tournaments.
If we are talking about making the sport legitimate this flying throw has to be eliminated. In bowling if Pete Weber were five feet down the lane after he released his ball it is still a foot fault. In baseball if a pitcher were five feet closer to home plate after he releases the ball it is still an illegal pitch, and he would be disqualified and taken off the mound. In golf if Tiger Woods addressed a ball like Happy Gilmore he would be laughed off the course and his accuracy would suffer.
These announcers need to take it down a few notches
I didn't say it clearly enough I guess haha. The one commentator is very good actually, but the other just seems like he's talking loud is what I meant. I LOVE THAT YOU ARE POSTING THE DISCS WITH EACH THROW! EVERYONE SHOULD PICK UP ON THIS TREND AND START DOING IT IN EVERY VIDEO :)

ELITE!
HE'S GANNA PUMP IT.... THEN HE'S GANNA SLAM IT!
It´s not the volume, its the way your doing it. sounds like your screaming, not so nice.
great footage.
I'm dying laughing listening to this commentator. Way over the top excited...hahaha
The over eager commentator is so god damn annoying
sean PHILLIPSSSS
LOUD NOISES!
The turkey sounds effects were AWESOME. Gave me a good laugh. Footage was great, commentary was great. All around awesome vid =)
yeah the commentary is too in your face (not the volume, but your announcing). Great video footage though, subscribed
This is a great video! Thanks Steve for putting this all together.
I picture the commentator dressed like Elton John.
Really good footage. Commentary is a little loud/in-your-face. Pretty good video though.
Overall really good coverage and enjoyable to watch. However, the more excited commentator seemed like he was meeting a celebrity every time he announced a player. A little less blasting in the face and a bit more relaxed technical commentary would make this top notch.
i love the commentary don't let the trolls quiet you.

This commentary is on point, lmao over here. Top notch disc golf coverage, thanks for all the hard work.
anyone else love seeing pros hit trees?
These commentators have become my new favorites! Can anyone say enthusiam? Nikkoooo!!!!!!

Sean Phillips and James Moore for Team Innova! Thumbs up for Sean and James!

Great video, but they announcer that keeps yelling kinda ruins it.
I contacted him but have not heard back. He is the busiest of the bunch. Nikko is touring constantly and likely hasn't even had time to watch it.
I like how you showed what disc the players were using. Commentary was a bit distracting tho
The problem is that he is outside the circle.
Count his steps after finishing the putt. He takes 6-7 steps when the video cuts and clearly has at least 4 more to go. Which would put him outside the circle.

Best video I've seen yet.

COUNT IT
did anyone find out if shawn ever found his disc or if it was ever returned?
I had to stop looking, didn´t stand that yelling... OMG!!!!!
I really like the lead commentator. Really gets into it. Sounds like he has a lot of fun with it.
Oh my... look at Nikko Making birdies... he doesn't give a shit!
i think the commentary is top notch ! i can tell you guys love the game !
How many foot faults for the guy in purple. I counted about 3 and the camera wasn't even showcasing his card.
I like the commentary on this. Keep it up guys.
Are you guys on location when filming?? Great video by the way I have been looking for some tournament footage to watch some mechanics since I started playing two years ago, a little bloomer.

why aren't we told what nikko is throwing?
STOP SCREAMING AT ME!!!!!
Haha I love the use of "sha-boom" at 37:55.
40:12 seconds in Scott's putt is a HUGE!! foot fault...can't believe no one noticed..he's already running towards the basket before he releases this disc...WOW!
Great throwing. Commentator...is not....no. The older commentator is enjoyable.
Does someone shit their pants at 6:45?...lol

Great video but this announcer is an ear beater!
very well said.
I think the commentary was good just the loud guy is a little to quirky but its pretty good
All I can think of when he says Nikko is honey badger.

not from 33 feet out you can move forward it has to be outa your hands before you touch the ground
25:22 that's does it. the next tourney i play, i am going to demand there be a girl to feed me orange slices. that has to do wonders for your confidence.
The second announcer sounds like Phillip Baker Hall :p
love the comment at 4:19
anyone else keep thinking that the commentator sounds just like the Honey Badger guy?

15:51 Ace? Listen to backround

I find it too funny nobody is throwing the Hzyer line. lol
Calm that voice the f... down dude. Please... But good camerawork.
Unless this is a voice over,then I'm a dumbass
If you pause it at 2:00 minutes, you can clearly see the disc out of his hand while his foot is still on the ground. Legal shot. I like your name though. Mmmm bacon...
Brutally obnoxious.
40:10 now THAT looks like a foot fault. Possibly due to the framerates, who knows.
this announcer is obnoxious.
20:42 best part of the whole video.
oh and when you have nikko he is top priority, hes why anyone has watched this vid. sry poor execution.
32:14 That doesn't even look close to a foot fault.....
Y'all should really stop talking when they're focusing to throw
"That's not what he was looking for." a bit overused commentary
shhhhhhh
the announcer is obsesed with nikko
Honey badger dont give a shit.
little tooooo enthusiastic if you ask me... too many elongated name pronunciations... he is an ELITE announcer

There is no such thing as an A tier pro, there is either pro or Am step it up or stepdown
