It's fascinating that so many of us, strangers who have been invited to feel like extended family, sit here & passively participate in the exploration of your history. I know I was enjoying the visit, having a Farmstead in North Dakota that still reveals pieces of the last 150 years whenever we travel back. Walt, I'll be hoping to see how your efforts with those negatives turn out!---My one question about the resident snake...is there any evidence he's actually doing his assigned duty to keep the rat population down? Or is he too satisfied with the eggs he keeps getting provided!

Brown’s Mule Chewing Tobacco! The chewing tobacco arrived to the store in boxes like that and the merchant would use the tobacco cutter to cut it into plugs. Or you could buy the whole box and cut it yourself. I think the wooden Brown Mule boxes were from the 1920’s until around WWII.

The 1944 "letter" you found looks like what was "V-mail". Letters from servicemen overseas were microfilm, then sent to US to be printed out, then forwarded to the addressee. The purpose was to minimize the amount of cargo space taken up to get mail back to the States. Collectable, rarity depends on where it was sent from.

Hi from England Robert, that little flower broach you found looks like a china Coalport brooch, Coalport are a pottery company in UK who most usually made china ornaments and teasets and such like, but they also made these small flower brooches, they are not worth a great deal usually about $20 to $25 dollars depending on condition, but they are pretty, which I'm guessing is not much use to you, I have got one myself, which belonged to my mum, I hope you find something more valuable, love the vlogs xx

If there had been something interesting you would have said something. I love these kinds of videos. I am now 78. I had the privilege of knowing my greatgrandmother who lived til I was 15. She was 106. My mother, grandmother and I did what you are doing to her shotgun house in Cabbage Town in Atlanta. She could read and write and kept notes about things going on around her but in no order. Almost like post-it notes all over the house. They were just fascinating. Lots of stuff everywhere. So fun to do. No treasure except for the memories. Treasures for us. P.s. recipes from WW 2 are so much fun.

I think motorized washing machines are twenties, roughly? Many were gas powered at first. You rolled them out on the porch and kick started them like a motorcycle. I'm guessing a lot of what you are finding in there is 60's/70's. Those "old man pants" as we used to call them, were very popular with WWII generation farmers. They held up to farm life, and weren't as heavy and hot as denim or canvas. I'm guessing the lipstick is quite a bit older. I don't remember lipstick in the 60's needing 20 minutes to dry without blotting. Wooden spools were still a thing in the 70's. By the time I started sewing in the early 2000s, spools were plastic. I'm not sure what year it switched. I remember many little briar pipes like that, but I think it is missing a stem, again, 70's. Brown's mule tobacco is plug chewing tobacco, a quick google search would make me think that box is late 1800's. Maybe from the store? The draft started in 1969, so that pamphlet might date it. Who was in the household in that timeframe, and when would he have turned 18? Okay, well the paper is in the bottom and dated 1970, and you've got the 1972 letter in the bottom, so that give you a pretty good idea of when the drawer was last added to. I can remember buying those little deer with my grandmother in the mid sixties. I remember that Stuart Hall linen stationery. That map is a window in time. How many young folks today know you could pull up to any gas station and get maps?

Beautiful OBF snake! I'm sure you scared him as much as he scared you. For apologizing showing how beat you are, don't be. At least you're keeping it real. I have a lot of family photos and such that I need to get back to working on. Watching you is inspiring. It can get pretty funny. Take care and rest well when you can.

Looks like the small tobacco box sells for $40 to $60. It is from early 1900s. Read that it had 20 plugs in it that sold for 20 cents each

Hey, just a tip. Don't throw away old clothing patterns . If they are 1950 and older they are worth something! P.s. I cracked up at your snake encounter!😅 Glad it was only a rat snake!!

@@daxxydog5777 re the patterns, still a newbie sewist, but it seems tricky to find copies of vintage patterns. Re the gloves, a lot of people find gloves make turn them into butterfingers, or don't like the feeling of gloves.

They used to make ladies pipes that were small. Those wooden thread spools have value and so do the old dress patterns. I’m not surprised the rat snake was in the chifforobe, that’s where the rats were making nests🤗❤️🐝

The snake loves you so much it wanted to be near you. I would have freaked out. Glad it was a harmless one.
Also, since heat totally messes me up, I wouldn't have been able to do all that you do in it. Before we had air conditioning installed both of us would sit around too much.
Oh, and I always watch to the end of the videos not only because they are interesting, but honestly for curiosity sake as well. Take care of yourself and I hope you cooled off.

Doris Dodson was a label created by Forest City Manufacturing Company in September 1936. It was in production until 1968. That gown looks like it was from the 1940s.
Beautiful rat snake, but you do need to learn proper snake handling procedures... Keep one hand close enough behind his head that he can't reach around and bite. Also, stop feeding him eggs - he doesn't have incentive to hunt rats if you feed him.

Browns mule chewing tobacco was made by Reynolds until 1987. Still offered in Canada as plug chewing tobacco by a different manufacturer. Same logo that is $11.79 oz

Heard the name that you’re talking about when you was cleaning out the armoire, Minny Jewell. My maiden name is Jewell, I wonder if it’s any relation. I live in Florida near the Georgia line. Interesting, you just never know.
