Awesome Robert!! I’m glad you found your grandfather’s gun in the house and not taken!! Something from your grandpa is worth all the hard work looking for it! Great job
Robert: I have a simple idea for you and cleaning those rooms. Get some big boxes and garbage bags. Any antiques put in the boxes but don't take the time to look at them. Put garbage in the bags. Put antique filled boxes in a shed. Go through them in winter when you'll have lots of time to look at the stuff. The idea is to get everything out quickly and you can go through the rooms like wildfire. Love your videos. Hope this helps.
Robert, I would advise against re-bluing the Colt. Original finish (pitted or not) is more desirable. Keep it well oiled inside and out and wrapped in a soft cotton cloth. It will last another hundred years. Congrats on finding it!
That is wonderful. I'm happy for you that you found the gun. It's nice to learn more about the farm and your family. Even more reason to pick up everything in the house and not just throw it out. It is awesome to learn more about you. You are not just a channel owner. You feel like family. Keep up the amazing work you are doing.
Awsome to find and hold a firearm of your Granddad's....keep it forever. But, understand,,,,the old 25's....are for very close range. Don't get discouraged of it's accuracy. And anything with Colt on it is worth keeping!!!
I'm so glad you found your grandpa's gun ! It was meant to be and I know you will treasure it like no one else could. There's no telling what other family treasures you will find while you're cleaning out that house !
What a wondrous find! Im so glad you found this piece of family history. I dont know what happened to all my granddaddy's guns, id even be happy with pictures of them.
Congrats to you Robert for finally finding your great grampas gun .That's history in the making .Something for u and your relatives to cherish .Keep up the good work ,that proves what u r doing at the OBFis the right thing taking your time to sort through everything .👍
COLT is a very sought after Gun. They are very collectable firearms. Awesome find thats great. Colt made some of the first hammer less pistols. I got a 32 made in 1903 that looks similar and hammer less as well.
That’s cool, I’m actually a big fan of the early Colt’s like that. I’d love to own a 1903 also. Finding this 1908 was a real treat. I’d assumed it was just a cheapo pocket pistol from memory
I have two Colts that belonged to Jim Bulger aka Whitey! One is a 1908 and a factory modified 1923 32 cal pocket positive. I've also a couple of NAA 22lr and a long barrel 4" boot gun, which is an antique. I lived at his hdqtrs, Triple O's in South Boston. Traveled to Tampa in 1993 when he bought the condo.
Very nice! The sentimental value alone far outweighs any dollar amount it may be worth. I saw one in a private collection that was still brand new in the box, never been fired. The collector said he paid $1,300.00 for it.
Wow that's awesome. I'm happy for you that you did manage to find it. Weaponry was one of my Daddy's hobbies. He would've been excited to see that gun. He also would've been able to blue all the parts on that gun & fix anything that was broken or worn out on it. He did gun smith work for years too. He even made a gun from scratch. His trade was a machinist so he had all the tools & know how he needed to make, repair or manufacture parts for all types of weaponry. Old colts can be nice guns. Congrats on finding it.😊👍🏼
My dad bought old rifles n flintlocks and restored them I was six n he let me watch and explained how to leave patina He then resold as circumstances required
That's awesome that you was able to recover it and make it like new . In my book it's piece of history and most Definitely it's priceless when it comes to a family Airloom .
Great find, or rediscovery. Nice to have another piece of the family history. Wanted to know how your apple tree rooting went. It’s been hot here (by San Diego Ca standards) so I have to add a little water to the plastic ball every few days to help the process along. It tends to encourage the new roots. I’m waiting for the day you sit down with a tub/box and a trash bag and start the sorting process around that piano, save everything that might be worth something but… Have a great day and thanks for sharing.
Cool recovery, repair, and rebuild. Have you been to a range to test it, your story seems to say so. Since the pistol was never found during the years the house was vacant and trashed is a testament that you "bought the farm" when you bought the farm.
How wonderful that is was still there - a treasure! You did a great job on cleaning and rebuilding it. Hey, not a bad job of acting! Now I won't be sure when you are the real thing or not. 😅👍👍 Just reason 31? I thought it would be more. 😉
What a great find. It could have been lost in all that collection of stuff. My Dad handed me his beautiful Fox shotgun a few years before he passed. My Mother had won it at a Bingo game. A story to tell the grandkids for sure.
I still have your grandfathers 10 gauge double barrel its a 1910 or 11 lefevre arms it needs refurbishing i was going to do and return to family but you know why i am not able to complete work now if you are interested come get it!
That’s incredible Robert. Your heart must of been beating really fast when you found it. So exciting. To treasure a piece of history that’s tangible n to belong to your great granddaddy. You did a fine job cleaning it up too. It’s amazing that it’s still there. It was meant to found. ♥️♥️😊👍👍🌟🌟🐶
A few years ago my wife and I found her great grandfather's guns rusting away in her father's house. There was a WWI era 1911, and the 1908 Colt Vest Pocket. Cleaned it up, got some .25 caliber bullets, and it's a snappy little gun to shoot. Made for super close quarters shooting, so aiming isn't possible (no real sites on it, just a groove). Careful if you shoot it, those aged plastic grips won't take much vibration and may crack. Get a replacement pair for shooting (still available).
Hello Robert I'm so happy for you to find that gun from your grandfather after all those years that's really awesome till next time stay safe take care love from upstate New York❤😊
So happy for you Robert, especially since it is a family heirloom! BTW, in your reenactment, you moved a white bowl aside, it looks to be milk glass, please don't get rid of it, milk glass is valuable to collectors, sale it if you don't want to keep any you find and then you can use those funds on the Farm. God Bless.
it is always great to find a piece of your family history. especially a nice firearm like that. great find, now you have to give it a try at the range. my grand dad had a.25 cal, My dad has it now down south. not sure of the manufacturer. have to ask him. have a great day!
Way cool ! Just shows you were the one supposed to have the gun and the house! Grandma knew you would take care of everything and not toss it all in the trash and tear the place down or sell the land.
That is so cool! It looks about the same size as a Bodyguard with the exception of the grip. I think yours is a tad shorter. I'm so glad you found it and it's in such great shape.
Congratulations!!! I keep telling my husband that I want one about that size, but for some reason he doesn't believe me. Oh well, glad you found yours. Take Care and good history hunting.
i inherited 3 antique guns from my grandfather. 1 was his father's, a police chief, personal gun. an Iver Johnson top break .32 revolver. the other was a WW2 1911 with the army holster. i do not think it was his issued gun as it is nickel plated with zero markings. i assume it is a colt. the 3rd gun was this exact colt 1908. i got them all appraised. none were valuable enough for me to sell. all of them are in great shape (no rust or bad pitting), accurate and work as good as new.
Robert, is your family related to James Byrd's second wife? How long has your family been on the property? I know the family left, which was when the ransacking happened. You did an amazing job cleaning that pistol.
I saw an earlier video in which you were cleaning a desk I believe. You found in there some old photos in which so you were photographed as a little boy. Now in this video, you're finding your grandfather's gun. So you're related to the Byrds?

In South Africa, we just call it a Baby Browning. I had one for years and years. 😊 Amazing find❤🎉

My grandfather carried one just like that when he was in Vietnam. It LITERALLY saved his life one day. I'll have to tell you that story sometime.
So happy for you, Robert!!👏
