Fantastic sunburst & doors! Okay, time for me to bring out my inner grandma...Robert! Look at all that mouse evidence... Mask? Gloves? Take care of yourself, my friend. You're the only you we've got!
The horse head piece is a shoe horn. They are used to protect the back structure of the shoe and allow you to slide your foot in easier. Sometimes they were sold with a men's valet kit (shoe horn, comb, brush, clothes brush, etc.)
I’m still glad you brought that rising sun piece back to your farm house Robert! Thank you for saving a little bit more history every time you go there!!
I love all of your videos. Whether you’re working on the farm, explore an old abandon structures, or documenting long, forgotten gravesites. I find them all very interesting and look forward to them every day. Thanks for sharing.
SO GLAD you got those doors along with Sun Burst from the old house. It was so sad to think that nothing was going to be salvaged from inside. BUT it scared me to death to watch you crawling around inside that one.
I enjoyed seeing this, Robert. Anyone who's ever cleaned out a house knows how long it takes to go through things. That long tool with the horse on top looks like a shoehorn. A tall one for someone who had trouble bending down to slip their shoes on. Looking forward to the next video. I'm waiting to see how those old doors from the Rising Sun house looks when you're done with them.
I am so glad and surprised you bought the doors from the house of the rising sun house. I can't imagine how you got them out without the whole house falling down on you! Such a sketchy place.
One step closer getting things done. It takes time. The horse thing is a shoe horn. I love watching you go through items in the house. The lamp base uses a globe like an oil lamp would have. The one for the electric lamp would have been frosted or white to put off a soft light
I love a good dad joke, Robert. Bravo! Just getting caught up on all the cleaning videos. I love organizing and finding treasure so these were a fun, satisfying watch! I'm glad you looked through each and every piece. My grandmothers and parents were notorious for keeping extremely valuable things like money and jewelry in old, used envelopes, coffee cans, between book pages, etc. Can't toss ANYTHING without making sure. After my mom passed, I was cleaning out the far back of the kitchen cabinet. I had already opened and discard at least 9 empty coffee cans. So on the 10th and last one, I just wasn't going to bother. But I picked it back up out of the pile and opened it anyway at the last minute. Inside it was a folded envelope and inside that were the keys to the safety deposit box! I just know I would have given an arm and a leg later (wink) to have found them if I hadn't "on second thought-ed" the decision not to open that can!
There's always something to do at the old Byrd farm house 🏠 Robert I also watched the old photos of the rising sun house you would not think that was how the house looked I'm glad you got the doors Robert you at least saved them all the best Andrew south wales uk 👍 👌 😀 🇬🇧 and you did a good job cleaning 👍
Love rummaging through old stuff. If you find old ledgers or letters or old books...there are people who make junk journals that might be interested in buying. Some sellers sell their papers and ephemera in packets, including old fabric scraps and ribbons. You never know what will sell. Just an idea.
Hello, and the book nice fine at 83 years old and the hourse thing looks like a shoe horn to help put your shoes on .so very nice clean out .thanks for sharing and take care.
You can only do what you can do! Don't feel bad about only getting certain things done in a day, like you said its a long process. My grandfather was in the CCC when he was a young man
Kudos, Robert on getting those two early doors. I hope you still are able to get more salvage, but don’t put yourself in any danger getting it. But it sure would be nice if you could get those southern yellow pine boards with blue paint that were on the walls of the stairwell. Those would be nice wall paneling in an added room to your farmhouse. I wish I lived closer cause I’d volunteer to help.
While I'm thinking of it. I thought I would also mention that when you were cleaning out that kitchen and found that Star Wars toy from 1978. That was the first year those were available and they can be quite collectible too. So I would list any of those you find with the dates you find on them.
Love the Rising Sun piece, fantastic that you obtained it and are going to be saving it. Great that you're keeping it in the area, especially that everyone will still be able to see it.👍❤
They actually had classes for farm people to teach all kinds of things. My grandmother taught canning food for preserving . My grandfather went around the county and taught care for animals etc. My mother gave me once a book on how to build a fireplace. All government hand books. I checked with the town I lived in had no code on building fireplaces , does your town? I wondering because my fireplace didn’t draw right and wind from the south would blow smoke back in the house..
If u repaint it id definitely use a neon vibrant red so it pops like how it did when it was on its house, in pics i saw when the house was standing it was faded and was sooooo bright like a neon coral/red ♥️ cant wait to see the rising sun fixed up Robert 💖
Amazing the way people will allow an old place to just disintegrate. My old place had been vacant for ten years when we bought it. I'm glad to think that we did it some good.
Oh my dear one you are just amazing thankyou dear for all you do and are you make a day we love you and just can't get enough of you takw care god bless you and watch over you
I was going to mention about the doors at the Rising Sun house but was excited about you getting the Rising Sun. I’m thrilled that you did get them. You don’t find those type of doors to often. They’ll be perfect for the OBF once there cleaned up. That lamp you found, so cool. That has a milk glass base it also probably had a milk glass top. I have one much like the one you found. I’m sure you can find one to match it at thrift store or maybe Dan will know where you get one. They look just like your gas ones. Get the rust off the base the best that you can n put some gold rub n buff on it to look like the brass that’s been eaten off by the rust. It’ll look just as good when it was new. I have a thing for old lamps. Sorry Robert I got long winded there haha. That small closet space will be perfect to store your bottles n EBay items. Gosh, still wishing I lived closer. I’d come n help ya clean up those doors n not charge you a dime 😆. Give Blue n Annie a pat on their head from me or a hug. ♥️♥️😊👍👍🌟🌟
The horse stick pole thingy lol is a shoe horn for sliding your shoes on easier. My grandpa had a couple for him 😊👍♥️ Can’t wait to see the restoration on the Rising sun. How’s that old dart doing? 😁
That item with a horse is a shoehorn. It helped people put on tight shoes or shoes that they could not reach down and pull onl That would sell in your ebay store.
I wouldn't pressure wash that sign you might destroy some of it. A gentle cleaning with just soap and water. And I wouldn't paint over it. It will look better unrestored IMHO.
You were right on target about not pulling up that wisteria root. As you showed it to us, I was thinking that the root would pick up the Kibota. We were both right. Nasty stuff, wisteria.
Wow, you got the doors! Can you get the front door transomes...for the build? Down to the nitty gritty of cleaning again... looking good! Say, this reminds me, where is my other wisteria candle? 😉 Great stuff, Robert. The Rising Sun is wonderful!! ❣️❣️👍👍😊
I'm glad the screenwriters' strike is over ... "cost an arm and a leg" ... get a new writer. Your visual support was okay. The cookbook is a winner. Now, you're cleaning closets because you need storage for your business wares. The Old Byrd Farm brand is evolving and on the move.
With those old newspapers, you might want to set them aside and go through and scan them for marriages and such for family tree sites, and depending how old might have land sales and old cemeteries where ppl were laid to rest. Might be good for historical purposes. The old crop, is a shoe horn to assist someone to put their shoes on. :)
I would try to date that hippie purse with the peace sign on it. Vintage clothing, especially hippie from the 60s is very sought after and it could be worth a bit. I'm not personally interested just passing down information. Although it did look a little rough but you never know.
It’s kind of a neat piece, and it’s actually in better shape than it looks. I usually would have never thought anything else of it, but it’s kinda unique. I bet it would clean up nice. Plus it’s not mummified like the other purses were 😅
OOOO, Robert! Please reconsider pressure washing your Rising Sun! I can't see how thick the wood is but looks like maybe only about 1 inch and you didn't say if you've figured out what wood it is. If it's not hardwood like oak or heart pine (very common in that era), then pressure washing it can easily break the wood fibers so you end up with "whiskers" you'll never get rid of without hours of sanding. Been there, done that, never doin' it again! I recommend a good quality dish soap like Dawn, a medium bristle brush, warm water, lots of elbow grease, and rinse sparingly like with a garden hose with no nozzle. :}
Lath, it seems, is pronounced with the a sounding like it does in cat. But, in my opinion it can be pronounced either way, depending on where you live. I am not sure which would be better, to set your goals too high and then be disappointed if you aren't able to get it done or set it too low and not achieve much. You are doing fine. Don't beat yourself up. We like you and that is what matters. And, as far as cleaning the house of all its years of clutter, you have been able to do far more than I would have attempted. It is NOT easy to do it and I would have had to have worn gloves because dust makes my hands itch. That horse shoe horn might sell well. Could even have some wisteria painted on it.
As I watch you cleaning that closet the saying “there are the people who keeps things and there are people that throw things away and they tend to marry each other.” My husband keeps and I throw away. I just can’t understand some of the stuff that “keepers” keep 🤷♀️
The blue and white small plate can have value, either keep it or put it up for sale. I could not see the pattern on it very well, some patterns are more valuable and rarer than others.
Make sure you keep the blue willow plate the peace sign purse and the metal plate from Mexico and frankenstein as a reseller you have some valuable thins there
I pressure washed an old cabinet and a door similar to yours and it ruined them. The pressure wash pushed dirt and water into the areas where the separate pieces of wood connected to each other and everything started warping etc.
Clean out time!

Glad you save the sun New Zealand
They are still widely used, right?
I’m still glad you brought that rising sun piece back to your farm house Robert! Thank you for saving a little bit more history every time you go there!!
What treasures you've found at the house of the rising sun. The age of the doors is incredible. Restoring them will be worth a video or two.
I love all of your videos. Whether you’re working on the farm, explore an old abandon structures, or documenting long, forgotten gravesites. I find them all very interesting and look forward to them every day. Thanks for sharing.
Like your idea of making a gazebo or porch. Sign will look great.
The recipe book is a phenomenal find. Those recipes can be invaluable to the times we are living in.

I wondered if it might be long so as to use it for putting on riding boot maybe?
Love that you purchased the house of the rising sun sign ! That is a cool piece of history and art !
I like how Blue was watching for varmints to scurry out of the closet while you were moving things!
I am so glad and surprised you bought the doors from the house of the rising sun house. I can't imagine how you got them out without the whole house falling down on you! Such a sketchy place.

Lol I was glad about that too
Your closet cleaning was good. Never fun! I enjoyed your other channel yesterday at the haunted house!! There’s always something to explore!
Yes! Thank you!
Love your videos and enjoy watching. May the lord bless and protect you Robert
Please wear a mask while cleaning 🧹 and we need to get you a dusk pan! Great progress!

Hi Robert, the closet looks good! I thoroughly enjoyed your video and can’t wait until the next one! Have a fantastic day
The walls look wonderful now they have had a wipe down
Yay you saved the old doors too! Sure looks a mission to clean that place out, can't believe how much stuff is in it. 😳

Please use a brush and mild detergent to clean. Pressure washing could damage the wood.
I know you get bored, but it is amazing to see!
Clear plastic erasers work really well for cleaning up old or dirty books , periodicals and the cookbook...
The dishes used to have plants set on them. The odd dishes frequently were used as plant pot sitters so they wouldn't mark the furniture when watered.
Good for you, Robert. Glad you saved that part of the other house.
The old bird farm provides " an arm and a leg . "😊

The horse stick pole thingy lol is a shoe horn for sliding your shoes on easier. My grandpa had a couple for him 😊👍♥️ Can’t wait to see the restoration on the Rising sun.

It was a long day, but IT was worthwhile.
Rising Sun is awesome,.
LOL. The horse is a shoe horn. Very practical.
How is Annie-dog post surgery? I'm glad you did what others would have considered an unnecessary surgery. I'm sure Annie-dog can see much better too!

That paper
Wow
such great progress! little bit at a time! and be care full, doing the work.
Horse crop might actually be a shoe horn
I agree.

Robert the blue plate has a beautiful story
About two birds
I love your git-er-done music!---The CCC came to our area to completely rebuild the La Purisima Mission!
Reminds of the song by the Animals, back in the 60's called "The House of the Rising Sun.
Love, cleaning videos!
In the community I live there were two front doors with the “rising sun” emblems. The home was built circa 1850
That’s awesome
Interesting finds.
Old cook books are very collectible!
Thx for doing this and sharing. 👍👍👍👍👍

So Cool landmark saving
I wish I could give more. I enjoy listening you reading forgotten cemetary especilly the scripture when possible. Thank you
You’re too kind - thank you
Great video Robert 👍
Oh good was thinking about the doors

the blue plate you found on the first side is collectable (blue willow ware) the stick that you called a horse spanker (LOL) is a shoe horn

Sadly, has a big chip.
Badly chipped
Well, you just answered my question.
Is that the other Roberts long sleeve neon green shirt he was missing?
Yes

Yes hippie purse cleaned will sell well. Leta
I pressure washed an old cabinet and a door similar to yours and it ruined them. The pressure wash pushed dirt and water into the areas where the separate pieces of wood connected to each other and everything started warping etc.

Wow! Thank you so much!!

Lol horse spanker 😅
