I have like many people watched the reality shows on hoarding,and the cleaning that comes after all the stuff and trashes have been removed. It is at first sight an overwhelming feeling. Robert has been going slow at this because it once belonged to family. It's totally a recovery not only of the house itself but family belongings that mean something to his loved ones. I have both felt sympathy and admiration for Robert and I know I am joined on this and his other channel by many others. I for one will keep coming back as long as possible to see how he is doing. I wish I could do more, financially that's not feasible. I have thought like someone else said I'd like to come and help,but I understand the condition of the floors is not really able to bear the weight of a lot of assistance. Also he certainly doesn't need people shall we say helping themselves to things that belong there. He has been very generous in his sharing this property on this open media...if it were me I would have kept it to myself. He has his reasons and they are reasonable. Very reminiscent of the old houses in Queensland. They were mostly built with unlined timber walls, central hallway, kitchen at the back. In the smaller houses, the wood stove was housed in a stove recess which stuck out from the main kitchen. In the bigger houses the kitchen was separated from the rest of the house. The houses were on stumps 5+ feet tall to maximise the air flow. There was usually a verandah at the front. This style of house is known as a Queenslander in Australia.
Thought I had a project house, but mine now seems minor compared to yours. Thank you for answering a questioning I been thinking, yes, going thru what is trash & what is treasure. That will be a major project there..
If those painted panels on the living room fireplace are wooden, there is a way to clean them safely. There is a product called Kotton Klenser that will remove the dirt without harming the paint. I've used it on painted folk art pieces and it works very well.
Hopefully your plans will include re-instating the missing interior walls. The tall windows and high ceilings really give the rooms a beautiful atmosphere.

Definitely needed a before tour so one can see the amazing transformation this house is undergoing. I grew up in a 100+ year old farmhouse and still miss the place to this day. Good to save one from the easier way nowadays of raze and rebuild with cookie-cutter cheap houses.

My grandmother's house over in Camp Hill Alabama the main bedroom had closets like that. My grandfather's closet was the taller framed door and my grandmother's was the shorter framed door. The house was built around 1910 and only got an indoor bathroom in the late 50's. Keep up the great work you're doing on it.

One critter at a time when you get to whoever it was moving around in that one room on this video. Tremendous job you've done. Seeing this tour, we are seeing just how much you've got ahead of you. What do you figure? Another six years? Imagine what the Old Byrd Farm is going to look like then. There will be pasture land all around. There will be vegetables and gardens. You'll likely be working on a new barn for the place. All the rooms will have been restored. The wisteria will be a memory and long gone.

From the front door of the house you are looking at a big hallway that Robert calls the dogtrot. There are three rooms to the left one behind the other. First one is the palour, the middle one is where he has his stuff set up, the back one is the kitchen. To the right of the dogtrot from the front door is two rooms, one behind the other. Beautiful fireplace in the front room, the back bedroom is where he heard a sound of something moving. Then an added on room to the side with dropped ceilings.

You did a really good tour, thank you! Obviously I'm not certain about your house, but it was quite common in the Victorian era for the dining room to be larger than the parlor. The dining room included at least one sofa and sometimes a couple of easy chairs because the space was used as a family room. Larger ones could contain bookshelves, musical instruments, and later on, a Victrola and radio.
Thanks for the tour Robert! The Old Byrd Farmhouse was a show stopper in its day. The fireplace mantles are beautiful! You certainly still have a big job ahead of you just clearing out the trash. I’ve been watching from the very beginning and know how much you have accomplished so far. My Mother in Laws house was like that, my husband and his brother just called in trash removal team, no doubt some treasures were lost, but the house was sold and had to be cleaned out quickly. You have a long project on your hands, I enjoy your videos.
I admire your patience in cleaning out the farmhouse. The thought of all the treasures to be found would drive me to immediately sort through every piece. And the thought of critters I’d find both dead or alive would send shivers down my spine. Love watching your channels.
I couldn't jump on this fast enough. What a great Christmas present to us! I can see now why you have taken on this project -- it is certainly worth your efforts. I wasn't so sure of that when I first started watching (recently) and had only seen the kitchen and the trophy room. It also helps to understand that it is part of your personal family history, which I hadn't caught onto before. It just makes it seem that much more interesting to me for some reason. I totally approve of your "one piece at a time" removal system. It would be a shame to lose anything of interest after all that effort, time, $ etc!

It is a lot bigger than I thought it was. I can picture it all redone. Lots of work but once cleaned out should go quicker. Be fun to strip all those doors and redo them. The fireplaces are beautiful. There has to be a way to save those paintings on them. If it faded it be pretty cool to keep them.

Thanks for the tour! It is an interesting place the way it was original to with additions. Do you have a plan board so you can plan your to do with check off on what has been done? I think that would be very helpful. Get the priorities listed. Do you think during the winter months you will be able to clear a could of rooms? May I suggest a large folding table set up in each room you are going to clear. Gives you a place to place stuff as you are going through it all for keeps. At some point the house is going to have too much stuff to keep. Going to have to think about how to sell and where to sell overflow. Carry on.

Great tour! The formal parlor would usually have the most elaborate mantlepiece...would that be the room with the triple windows ? You didn't mention the origonal dining room...would that be the room referred to as the 'parlor', also with a showpiece mantle? Interestingly, the rooms have a pretty symmetrical layout, but the exterior roof massing is very picturesque.
Thank you for showing us through the house and showing us the floor plan but as you go through you see that there is a lot of work to do and going through this piece by piece is important because there are so many relics that are priceless really. To the long history of your family in the meanings that all this carries and to go through an organize it is an awesome thing but I too remember when from the road you couldn't even see the house The wisteria was almost like a monster that had overtaken the whole farm so that was a lot of work that you've accomplished there

My grandmother's house over in Camp Hill Alabama the main bedroom had closets like that. My grandfather's closet was the taller framed door and my grandmother's was the shorter framed door. The house was built around 1910 and only got an indoor bathroom in the late 50's. Keep up the great work you're doing on it.

One critter at a time when you get to whoever it was moving around in that one room on this video. Tremendous job you've done. Seeing this tour, we are seeing just how much you've got ahead of you. What do you figure? Another six years? Imagine what the Old Byrd Farm is going to look like then. There will be pasture land all around. There will be vegetables and gardens. You'll likely be working on a new barn for the place. All the rooms will have been restored. The wisteria will be a memory and long gone.

From the front door of the house you are looking at a big hallway that Robert calls the dogtrot. There are three rooms to the left one behind the other. First one is the palour, the middle one is where he has his stuff set up, the back one is the kitchen. To the right of the dogtrot from the front door is two rooms, one behind the other. Beautiful fireplace in the front room, the back bedroom is where he heard a sound of something moving. Then an added on room to the side with dropped ceilings.

You did a really good tour, thank you! Obviously I'm not certain about your house, but it was quite common in the Victorian era for the dining room to be larger than the parlor. The dining room included at least one sofa and sometimes a couple of easy chairs because the space was used as a family room. Larger ones could contain bookshelves, musical instruments, and later on, a Victrola and radio.
Thanks for the tour Robert! The Old Byrd Farmhouse was a show stopper in its day. The fireplace mantles are beautiful! You certainly still have a big job ahead of you just clearing out the trash. I’ve been watching from the very beginning and know how much you have accomplished so far. Those who have just recently begun to follow you really need to go back to the beginning to appreciate what you have done. Stay with it Robert it will all be worth the effort in the end.

My Mother in Laws house was like that, my husband and his brother just called in trash removal team, no doubt some treasures were lost, but the house was sold and had to be cleaned out quickly. You have a long project on your hands, I enjoy your videos.

I couldn't jump on this fast enough. What a great Christmas present to us! I can see now why you have taken on this project -- it is certainly worth your efforts. I wasn't so sure of that when I first started watching (recently) and had only seen the kitchen and the trophy room. It also helps to understand that it is part of your personal family history, which I hadn't caught onto before. It just makes it seem that much more interesting to me for some reason. I totally approve of your "one piece at a time" removal system. It would be a shame to lose anything of interest after all that effort, time, $ etc!
Thoroughly enjoyed tour, my grandmother was born in 1884 and the house she lived in when grandpa died was only 2 rooms. I would love to be there to help clean and find the treasures you will undoubtedly find, Merry Christmas from San Antonio, Texas. Look forward to the next video.

It is a lot bigger than I thought it was. I can picture it all redone. Lots of work but once cleaned out should go quicker. Be fun to strip all those doors and redo them. The fireplaces are beautiful. There has to be a way to save those paintings on them. If it faded it be pretty cool to keep them.

Wow just wow followed from the start what a transformation not only on the house and grounds but you also the fact that you painstakenly go through every bit of accumulated stuff to recover not only your families history but the history of the region for posterity is amazing. Thanks for the tour! It is an interesting place the way it was original to with additions. Do you have a plan board so you can plan your to do with check off on what has been done? I think that would be very helpful. Get the priorities listed.
Do you think during the winter months you will be able to clear a could of rooms? May I suggest a large folding table set up in each room you are going to clear. Gives you a place to place stuff as you are going through it all for keeps. At some point the house is going to have too much stuff to keep. Going to have to think about how to sell and where to sell overflow.

The formal parlor would usually have the most elaborate mantlepiece...would that be the room with the triple windows ? You didn't mention the origonal dining room...would that be the room referred to as the 'parlor', also with a showpiece mantle?
Interestingly, the rooms have a pretty symmetrical layout, but the exterior roof massing is very picturesque.
I just noticed that I have the same exact owl picture that is in your wall by the 3 windows in the room that was added on across from the parlor. :)
Thank you for showing us through the house and showing us the floor plan but as you go through you see that there is a lot of work to do and going through this piece by piece is important because there are so many relics that are priceless really.
To the long history of your family in the meanings that all this carries and to go through an organize it is an awesome thing but I too remember when from the road you couldn't even see the house The wisteria was almost like a monster that had overtaken the whole farm so that was a lot of work that you've accomplished there
