I stay in south carolina. I'm black and our church has moved around 3 times in the community since it started but they kept every grave site in good condition. They had the church since mid 1800s . It's Graves out at the first site where some of the blacks were born before slavery ended. In our community they were allowed to have a church . The slave owners allowed they slaves to come together on Sundays to have church together.

West Georgia - the people, the places, and the locations, the stories is indeed like putting a history puzzle together. Listening to Dan relate stories and connections between each person, coupled with the photos always paints a picture that is easy to see.
All those babies 😢... my first thought is RA factor between parents, if opposite (positive and negative) would have caused such deaths, which is all avoidable now. How incredibly sad, as well as the little children. Enjoyed the pace of taking your time walking through, just wish I'd had some Big Chic too!!

Very excellent walk thru! You are living my dream. My husband&I wanted to travel&find churches with cemeteries, &then cemeteries on own&churches do history&photo coffee table book. Alzheimers/Dementia killed that for me so I REALLY LOVE these historical visits with someone who knows the history&cares. Why'd the stop zinc since held up so much better than stone. They're gorgeous! So many babies from single families. The mother barely was able to recover 6-9 months between pregnancies. Now they tell us a woman's body isn't close to normal for at least a year after giving birth. These women dealt with grief as got with child to anticipate. My husbands moms family has cemetery in Federal Refuge, kept locked except Memorial Day&special request. My visits there just amazed me with 9-10 baby headstones in addition to the 5-6 living children to adulthood. Mind boggling&so so hard&sad! They needed large families to farm. My Dad took care of a family cemetery as oldest son&took 6 kids with to use hand Clippers since no weed eaters back then. I remember plots where the infants were all buried with or very near their Momma's.Here in our town we have a tiny cemetery in center of town where a Civil War soldier is buried with his horse! Wouldn't it be lovely to see that basket grave planted with climbing roses once again to add that beauty! Wonderful history&can so see Mr.Dan as funeral director......traits so like my Uncle who also learned the stories&listened for the perfect piece to focus on to bring peace to families. This was wonderful🌹🙏

Mr. Dan, I really enjoy the hard work, history, and authenticity that your channel exhibits. I grew up in West Central Georgia and I find these videos to be outstanding in quality and full of so much detail that I have started watching them over and over again with the captions on the screen. I would like to ask you a question because I have not been able to find out about a type of grave marker/headstone that is on my Grandmother's plot. She died in 1930. Her tombstone is a Woodman of the World marker and it is several feet tall. It also looks like a tree with the branches cut off and some type of flower on it..I just wonder what or why she had this type of marker? My family is all gone and her child that is my parent was a child when she passed on. The reason I am so concerned is because I have been unable to discover who my Grandfather is. I am just wondering if there were records maybe kept by Woodmen of the World about those types of markers so I might be able to find out more info. Thanks.

Every time I see another video on this channel I am amazed at all the history I am listening to and try to absorb as well, as I listen to Mr. Dan Akins and Robert..This cemetery is well cared for and very clean.Gosh, in that one section to have lost 9 children and none of them reached the age of 5. So sad. So many family connections to Mr. Dan, and so interesting to loisten to . Thank you Both Dan and Robert, Appreicated.

That was a neat cemetery. All those children from that one family who died as infants or toddlers! Maybe it was a genetic issue that wasnt treatable back then? Whatever the reason, how terribly heartbreaking for those parents. Thanks for taking us along on this adventure.

    Robert and Dan,
Thank you so much for the history lesson on this cemetery and the local lore and history! I love cemeteries and find them a warm inviting place to visit and learn about local history. I felt as if Dan was having more thoughts then he could share about many people he talked about. I feel the same when I visit my home town cemetery. Thank you so much for recording until the battery died! I am sure it was a great Big Chic meal!😊Daria
