- Rhaegar Targaryen is dead. His son Jon is named Lord of the North, in fealty to his brother Aegon VI. Years of peace are shattered in an instant when Viserys Targaryen, Lord Paramount of the Stormlands, raises an army of mercenaries and Ironborn to take the Iron Throne for himself. This is an interesting scenario. Obviously, it makes sense for Jon to fulfil his duty and send his troops south, but it would likely be a source of significant frustration as well. Both Jon and Aegon were left with difficult situation to deal with. Aegon no doubt thinks that Jon is simply incompetent, since he was unable to deal swiftly with what he sees as a ragtag band of northern savages. Then again, from Jon's perspective, Aegon is entirely ignorant about what goes on beyond the Neck and unappreciative of what he is doing by pacifying the North. Aegon is king, so his view predominates, and thus Jon is disgraced despite making the best of the hand he was dealt. Surely, this would breed mutual resentment between the brothers.

This scenario is really weird to me, like I cannot fathom a world where the Ironborn decide to rebel against the Iron Throne and the Reach and Westerlands don't immediately seize the opportunity to dogpile the Ironborn purely out of their own self interest to beat the Ironborn's teeth in. I know it's probably for balance and whatnot but it's just so weird to me. That and the setup for Jon having a Northman revolt is actually fine in concept, considering that it's not unreasonable for him to be in an unstable position and making the very Targaryen/Southron decision to make an alliance with the Graftons, perhaps in this scenario he learns that he needs to be more Northern, and breaks the Grafton betrothal and weds Alys Karstark as part of the reconciliation with the rest of the North.
Yeah but keep in mind it’s pretty early in the war still, and the Reach at least may be wary of getting involved in another civil war simply out of an abundance of caution. Mace Tyrell doesn’t seem like a decisive sort. Tywin is probably waiting to see who is gaining the upper hand; ultimately I’m sure he’d like for the Targaryens to destroy each other so he can pull off the same thing he did in the books. He may just let them crush each other the swoop in to ‘save the day’ like he did with Robert. I think it’s plausible if you frame it like that at least.
@@StrayKing I did make concessions for the scenario to happen lmao, like I get that much, like I can see the reasoning for several balanced and interesting starts, it’s just a bit much for me to look at the scenario and not have my suspension of disbelief absolutely stretched to the limit given I can’t see any Lords paramount looking at Viserys being granted the Stormlands as the Mad King’s favorite and then allying with the most hated group of people in the Seven kingdoms to usurp his adult nephew, and then looking at Aegon and being like, yeah we see no difference between these two candidates, we just want to feel this one out. If anything, I can see Lords Paramount wanting to dogpile Viserys and the Ironborn since Viserys being removed from the Stormlands would be a welcome weakening of House Targaryen. Dorne being ambivalent to Elia’s kids under threat is also hard to believe, and the fact that the Storm lords didn’t immediately Mass revolt the second that their entirely non-Stormlander liege allied the Ironborn and declared for the Iron Throne is just so weird to me. The fact that Rhaegar kept Viserys’s appointment to the Stormlands rather than immediately undoing it upon usurping the Mad King (as from the scenario video I assume it was a Mad King appointment as Rhaegar doing it makes even less sense) over just using the excuse of undoing the Mad King’s tyrannical usurpation of the Stormlands and using it as free PR with his vassals (while also conveniently granting the Stormlands to Jon Con, who even if a Targ loyalist like the Darrys, is at least an established Stormlander house).
In comparison to Viserys, at least Jon being given the North is realistic as he is the last male heir of Rickard, I just hate the name Stargaryen (or any variation) with an absolute burning passion. Hopefully at the end of the war he decides “ok maybe I should try to smooth some ruffled feathers and I take the name and sigil of the Starks as my own” considering that even with a good relationship with Aegon VI, Aegon would appreciate Jon relinquishing his potential status as a pretender given the history with Viserys.

Well, even if the Tyrells don't do anything, the Hightowers and Redwyn's should have every reason to join the Lannisters and lay waste to the Iron Born.
in CK2 AGOT there is a chance of Eddard picking him up during the events of the Tower of Joy in Robert's Rebellion bookmark. Otherwise Lyanna will escape to Pentos if she can survive, and the child will have his identity known immediately as Aemon or Jahaerys Targaryen (Jon Snow in ethnicity and portrait and traits). I have seen him launch an invasion of Joffrey from the Narrow Sea once.
I hope they bring some of that super thorough event modding to the CK3 version too!

God I love this, your videos always make my days better! Can't wait to watch this series! I had something similar playthrough where Rhaegar lived and overthrew his father and it was certainly an interesting playthrough!
The only thing i don't agree with this state of events is I don't think the major houses would have been deposed even the baratheon's. The starks and arryns would be too much of a difficult task to defeat in their own lands. After the trident rhaegar would most likely marched his army back to the capital and depose his father, and take charge of the realm. Rhaegar probably would have forgiven the starks being married to lyanna and understanding their part in the rebellion, and like I said too difficult to conquer. So either ned (if he survived )or benjen would be warden of the north. As for the baratheons, I could see it going 2 ways, I could see stannis being the lord of the stormsend and renly is ward of the crown with the conningtons getting the title lord of the stormlands or stannis is dead or exiled and renly is still a ward untill he comes of age. Everything else about this world state seems pretty sound

I feel as though that Rhaegar placing his son as the heir to Winterfell and Warden of the North would be a slap in the face to the Starks as Lord Paramounts.
Considering all the Starks were dead though…

Yes, true. Still, you'd think there's people like the Karstarks or other respected Bannerman the North would rather rally behind even if Robert's Rebellion failed.

@@thalmoragent9344 Yeah, but in this case the North didn't have much of a choice presented to them, and Jon had the Stark claim through his mother. Plus we see the consequences of that with the North rising up against him in the first episode.

Jon's real name is Aegon. The only reason he was named Jon, was to hide his true identity as a Targaryen. In an alternate timeline in which the Targaryens win the rebellion, there would be no reason to hide Aegon's true name, it doesn't make sense that you name him "Jon Targaryen".
Yeah but people know him as Jon and it wouldn't be as recognizable for the casual viewer if I named him Aegon. Unfortunately name recognition counts when it comes to RUclips.

Wasn’t Jon’s real name Aegon Targaryen. That’s what Rhaegar and Lyanna wanted his name to be
There is no confirmation either way, but I would go with Aemon. Rhaegar already had a son named Aegon by Elia Martell, so it would be a bit weird to have two.
Though I agree, the mod doesn't really account for this, but I like the explanation that someone mentioned that in this version of history Jon may have been named after Rhaegar's best friend Jon Connington.
@@StrayKing I'm not certain that book Rhaegar would have named his son with Lyanna after Aegon anyway, since if we can recall, Rhaegar was convinced that he would have his 3 heads of the dragon, and he had his Aegon and Rhaenys already, he was probably expecting his Visenya to be born. If anything, he might have named Jon as "Jaehaerys" after Jae II, Rhaegar's Grandpa and an established name.
(Although for thematic purposes I think that Rhaegar might have had the humor to name Jon after Orys, making the parallel with Orys "Half-Hand" being a bastard half brother to Aegon I, and Jon as Orys being a half-brother to Aegon VI, and that at least would probably satisfy Rhaegar's 3 heads idea given that even if Orys was less important than Visenya in the Conquest, it is at least a name that would pair well enough with Aegon and Rhaenys in that sense. Either that or my own preference: Aemon, both as a reference to Jon's canon bond with Aemon, and for the fact that Aemons have usually played second fiddle to their Aegons, building on that dynamic well enough, and IIRC in canon Rhaegar did have some correspondence with Aemon, so there's at least some reasonable way for him to be interested in using the name as well.)
(But as you mentioned, he might have used Jon as a way to honor Jon Connington, as he might have had to wisdom to not put a Jaehaerys in control of the north given that the North is perhaps the place that Jae I was liked the least, due to the Northern Lords being annoyed at the New Gift, so instead he gave Jon a name that would not be out of place in the North, at least if we are using Jon Umber as an example)

Props to the awesome scenario you made man, could you tell me how you were able to create Jon’s “starkgaryen” house? I tried using house customizer but it’s doesnt show up in neither the crownlands or northern dead houses so I’m out of ideas, PLEASE reveal your secret
I believe I chose the option with Rhaegar that creates a cadet branch for Jon (or did so using the decision), then I customized the house banner and name in-game; the Targaryen symbol shows up in the possible emblems so I just recoloured it myself to have the Stark colors.

How did you make this? like the custom characters and stuff?
edit: I think I kidn of got it from the comments...? You took the earlier start and won the war and then chose an ingame option with Rhaegar and dlater changed chars but how did you make Jon look like that and was it a guarantee that Ice wasnt lost or something? like this is so confusing for my brain but also so interesting!
After I won the war as Rhaegar I switched to Aerys, then as part of the war settlement I took Ice from Ned which passed down to Rhaegar once the Mad King died. As for Jon's looks, I just used the Barbershop mod and customized him a bit to make him look like that.

I personally don't like the name Starkaryen so I would probaly renamne it something like Starkfyre or Snowfyre or something to thag affect.

Yeah I've heard a few suggestions like Tarstark as well, I figured some folks might have preferred cadet branch names! Glad you like the idea though!

Yeah, it’s a bit of a plot hole but I went with it because Jon is his more recognizable name, plus the other Aegon was also still alive. Traded lore-accuracy for accessibility in this case.

I tried using this play through but it says I’m missing the dlc you get in a preorder addition and will just not let me play it at all. Any fixes to this?
No fixes yet but I might make an updated version without the DLCs at some point!

I downloaded the safe but I require T&T DLC to play. Is the T&T DLC compatible with V1. 8.2 or do I need an entirely new Version of CK3 to play
I think because the mod has been updated this save won’t work anymore. I’ll try to update it at some point though!

I tried to play this mod...but as soon I clicked for "play any ruler" my pc went sky rocket :/ It's that normal? I got 32 gb ram, 3070 rtx and 3700x amd. The base game gave me no problem whatsoever! I had no problem playing way heavier games than ck3 but this mod is weird. Someone knows how to help or have experienced the same issue?
Hmm, I haven't had much trouble with the mod myself, but it's definitely a bit harder on a PC than the base game. That said, your rig is way better than mine so I'm not sure what would be causing that.
is there anyway to start the savefile without the wars?
Hmm, I might have a version of the save file before the wars but I'm not 100% sure. You could always just end the wars using console commands (imprison the enemy leader) though!
Why would he be named John on this timeline?
Because that’s what the mod makes it, and because a series about Bob Targaryen probably wouldn’t be as recognizable.
How did you get the date to 302 AC? 🤔
I played the first 17 or so years before the series started and did some tweaking with console commands and such to set up the scenario.
anyone else having an issue with loading up ck3 with the agot mod? i havent been able to play this game in months i dont know wwat to do i have tried everything... uninstalling all mods and game nothing works

This maybe stupid as i comment one year after the video release but, your gameplay i think is too slow
There’s others out there who do a faster style of gameplay, they might be more to your liking.

I appreciate that! I just found a style that works for me and I feel like if I change things up I'll probably just get comments from other people being like 'slow down!' :D can't really please everyone sadly. Seriously though, glad you gave it a chance at least!
