    just a tip doing these shockers.... the topmount pointers need to align with the alignment pointer at the bottom of your shocker .

    You did not explain that you have to line up the tabs on the bearing, if you did not do this on the first one then I'm not surprised it did not last long.

    To put the shock back EASY: use the same bolt BUT SCREWED ON THE OTHER END. Put a peace of metal between the two "ears". When you will screw it it will widen the hub and you will be able to insert the shock with ZERO effort - no oil, no hammer.

    I don’t believe that you didn’t replace the coil springs. Egg on your face when the customers comes back with a broken coil spring. I’ve learnt that the hard way and use hollow sockets on the shock top nut instead of mole grips.

  • @bobsy852

    Tried to do this job on my 2008 Volvo (Ford made) which has same front suspension. Bent an Acrow prop trying to get enough pressure on the front wishbone to break the ball joint. No amount of hammering or leverage seemed to get that thing free. Gonna end up having to pay someone to replace these shocks for me I think, which sucks as I always feel a job is done properly if I do it myself

  • @zedman442
    @zedman442 8 лет назад

    With those McPherson struts they can be a right ballache to get the strut off the hub. I made a little wedge type tool which splits the hub where the bolt pitches ever so slightly and the strut just slips out.

    • @bodgitandleggitgarage
      @bodgitandleggitgarage  8 лет назад

      send me one of them tools lol

    • @zedman442
      @zedman442 8 лет назад

      It's fairly simple to make mate, get a 1/4" bit that you don't want, I used an old bit driver. You then grind down to an oval type shape. You can then wedgy it in, since the other end of the bit is square drive just put a spanner on it and it will split the hub. Absolute lifesaver for me for one job I did!

    • @ariebastiaanse3423
      @ariebastiaanse3423 6 лет назад +4

      Or take the original bolt, flip it around and block the non threaded hole with a piece of metal. Then use the bolt to slightly push the hub apart.

    Why didn't you loosen the shock top nut first so it's easier to get off when the shock is removed? I also use a cold chisel to help separate the hub a bit from the shock before knocking it out. Much easier then grease it when putting it back

    Awful, no replacement of top or bottom anti squeak pads, no aligning of the strut to the top mount and the top bearing was set slightly off to the top mount. Yes it’ll go back on but it’ll not last long

    Put the socket on the nut and a Allen key down the middle, hold the socket with grips,and I bet that's not lined up either,them things move as the spring is released

  • @opelmantamechanic8438
    @opelmantamechanic8438 6 лет назад

    that went better than that old fiesta you did . I thought you would have used the new nut that would have come with the new shock . sometimes the threads are different and if you just gun it up well i'm sure you know what could happen .
    FYI On the later mondeo's there is an arrow on the top mount flange showing what way to put it on . if you do this job on a fiesta you don't need to disconnect the ball joint , theres just enough room to get the hub past the shock end .
    A chisel/screwdriver up through the pinch bolt gap makes it easier to get the hub back on .
    I like your diagnostic videos they are interesting and seem to go quite well mostly , however this type of thing seems to be a bit of a struggle sometimes .Slightly different techniques here and there and it will be a doddle and look better on camera . know what i mean ?! try and be a bit less repetitive with you commentary . dont take all this the wrong way , i like your stuff and just want to help you improve
    keep it going dude :-)

    Is this video a joke or, in your opinion, should it be?
    1) To unscrew the nut, you need to hold the shock absorber rod with a # 6 hex wrench.
    2) Do not turn the shock absorber rod nut with an air gun !!!
    3) The buffer of the shock absorber is not installed correctly, it must be on the other side, and is fixed in the thrust bearing.
    4) You are lucky that when you press the lever, the tripoid did not fall out. You can also damage the arm bushing. It is necessary to unscrew the hub screw.
    This video is not meant to be a guide. Is this your hobby? It doesn't cost any money.
