  • We made it to Rome!! This time, our flight didn’t leave without us! It’s the little things in life. Like not being forgotten about by the airline you’re flying with. Looking at you, American Airlines.
Traveling to Italy was easier than we thought, even with yesterday’s setback.
This is honestly a dream come true for us. We’ve been waiting for at least a year and a half to go on this trip, and now, finally, it’s here. This is a fun one, and much more lighthearted than yesterday’s video :)

Took the same flight to Rome from DFW on the 8th. We had a great flight. Italian customs didn't even speak to us, just stamped our passports and sent us on. The return flight home was on schedule. Our connecting flight from Dallas to Houston was canceled, and ultimately, it took longer to get from Dallas to Houston than from Rome to Dallas. Overall a wonderful 10 days in Italy!

    • @LisaAndJosh
      @LisaAndJosh  2 года назад +1

hahaha, yeah - that DFW airport is a beast. Connection times are all SUPER TIGHT for most flights, and AA (assuming you were flying them) have been cancelling flights left and right. Sorry to hear that it took forever to get home :( that's the worst at the end of an already long flight to be delayed even more.
We had the exact same experience at the border - just a stamp and see you later.

@@LisaAndJosh Yes, AA240 and AA239. The connecting flight from was 50 minutes😳. We made it with 10 minutes to spare😁. Food was great and the crew was great! Overall a wonderful experience! We were only awake for 28 hours🙂

Congrats on making it! Even the take out pizza in Italy is amazing. The little bits of travel info about train tickets etc. is always very useful, my gf and I are currently in Brasov Romania and are using trains for the time being to get around Eastern Europe (Bulgaria next) and it’s so hard to find useful info on the internet that is actually current with COVID going on, so appreciate the content. Yay! the journey has begun! Congratulations!
I definitely always feel that weird sense of dread when leaving on big trips, or committing to something life-changing. I think sometimes for me it's the realization that this new thing means the death of something that I was comfortable with and was known. The death of the old norm to make room for the unknown new. It's both a weird sense of mourning and anxious excitement. I always have to remind myself that the end of one chapter is not the end of the book, it just means I get to explore a whole new chapter, and more importantly, I get to write it.
The stark contrast of how nice that train was compared to US public transit is shocking. That was a full-on spaceship!

    • @LisaAndJosh
      @LisaAndJosh  3 года назад +1

Thanks so much! Yes--that feeling exactly! It definitely doesn't have to be one or the other--working on holding both close and making space for the new. I can imagine you're feeling all those same feelings now too! Once read a quote that I liked--"You have to excavate the heart to make room for it to be filled."
Public transport out of the US is soooo awesome, beyond words. We had a full on conversation with someone at Rome Termini about how we could get the US on board. It'd take a lot..

Mostly things as we have traveled around Italy have been open, with some typical restrictions (such as limiting number of people inside at a time, wearing a mask, and keeping distance from others.) Sadly, some businesses have closed, but many of the popular destinations have been open and you can usually purchase tickets online. And our experience flying into Italy was quite simple--all of our documents were checked before departing. Hope that helps!

My only problem is, I know Italy is accepting vaccinated passengers flying from US but what if we make a stop at another EU country, say, Spain, and then fly to Italy from there? Do you think that's gonna make any difference? Also, does nationality matter? We are not US citizens but we will be still flying from the US. Let me share a link a with you that has all the answers you're looking for - apply.joinsherpa.com/travel-restrictions?affiliateId=americanairlines
You can put in YOUR passport, where you are departing from, any connections, and when you return (if there are also connections), and it will tell you precisely which documents and visas and everything else you'll need to do to make your trip work (or if it's even possible).
I can only give firsthand info about US passport coming from the US, so I don't want to lead you astray. However, it *sounds* like what you're trying to do will be possible IF you're vaccinated without quarantine today, but I also don't know which passport you currently hold.
Hope that helps - let me know if you still don't have a solid answer after poking around that site.

2-I still don't have my plane seats since I have not checked in yet and I think the plane seats numbers are one of the requirements to fill out the DLF if I am not mistaken. Can I fill out the Digital Locator Form leaving that information out or not?
Hope my 2nd question was clear.Thank you!

      1. Yep. And have the QR code handy on your phone just in case. Hard copies were necessary for us.
      2. Fill out the digital passenger locator form when you check in 24 hours before - you should get your seats then.
      3. Don’t forget that you actually need to fill out the Puglia specific form - it asks for a TON of info - take a look and maybe start that early

@@LisaAndJosh Guys I called Alitalia and the customer service has not been the best.I called 3 times and every time they give me mixed, different information.I was told once that the real seat numbers were not necessary, that I could enter any seat numbers I wanted. WOW!
Also, they are asking me to fill out and print the "SELF DECLARATION COVID-19",which is a document that has been replaced by the Digital Passenger Locator Form.

So you don’t have to take the COVID test prior to flying there? I’m fully vaccinated since December since I work in healthcare. I’m booked to fly out to Italy on August 19. I will also be flying on AA through DFW. It was confusing in regard to get tested pre flight, upon arrival, and return flight. Don’t know what the protocol is. Please let me know what the updated protocol is. Thx

hiya! we do have a video about the updated protocol - ruclips.net/video/fe0SyrXp9hw/видео.html
      to summarize:
      1. be fully vaccinated
      2. fill out digital passenger locator form
      3. use VeriFly (AA's app to validate vaccination certificate and digital passenger locator form)
      4. go to italy
No idea on return flight - I believe you have to get tested to get back to the US right now?
Use AA's sherpa app to get the most up to date info - it might change before August. apply.joinsherpa.com/travel-restrictions?affiliateId=americanairlines
it actually took me longer to write this than the video is explaining it, lol :)

Mr. and Mrs. Whiner go to Rome. Mrs. Whiner should put a decent pair of shoes on her 9-toe nailed feet, and they both messed up in not leaving enough time to transfer their flight in Dallas Fort Worth, of all places.

Hello! I was just watching your video and I have a comment about what you said in regards to entering St. Peter's Basilica when women or men are not appropriately dressed. I was surprised when you said that because (having watched) videos about people visiting Buda temples or mosques people are demanded to dress appropriately, and curiously people do not complain about this. When you are entering the basilica you are in the holy of holies, this is where God dwells. I am Catholic and I am appalled when people complain when they are asked to cover their shoulders, or legs upon entering a church, a Cathedral or a Basilica.

Hello! Thanks for the comment and we can understand the sentiment This was one of our first places on our trip, so were fairly surprised (ignorant) about the rules, but have since learned that many places of worship, regardless of religion, require covering up. We have been to churches before where we could show up with shorts or sleeveless tops. In this instance, however, I think the thing that felt more channeling was the arbitrary nature of the rule (ie women only, some people allowed in with tank tops and others could not.) in any case, we have since learned and always bring cover ups with us just in case!
