A bit of history: the English flag 🏴 is actually the flag of the Republic of Genoa (the cross of St. George). The ships of Genoa were so powerful that when pirates saw her at sea they stayed away from them. For this reason, in 1100 the King of England Richard the Lionheart asked Genoa for permission to use the flag to keep pirates away from English ships. Genoa granted the flag for an annual fee. England paid the annual fee until 1770, then felt it did not have to pay it any more and simply appropriated it. Moral of the story: the English flag is actually Italian🤣🤣🤣
Genoa is the city of "pesto". Pasta and pesto, or pizza and pesto is so great! If you go in Recco (little city near Genova) there is the famous "focaccia di Recco". Taste it 😋
I live in London and actually ordered a gyros today. Mind you, I am Italian and used to live in the Netherlands as well. I do not know why things get both so pricey AND so lacking of veggies. I miss the amount of veggies in every roll in Italy, as it is healthier, more delicious, and you also do not get sick after eating it. You literally pointed out something that has been coming into my mind for quite a few years. Like, it looks to me that I need to put an effort to eat more veggies abroad. It is frustrating and I also gained weight. Sorry. A bit of mouth diarrhoea over something that you pointed out and totally agree with you about.
I'm sorry you only had 20 minutes for Turin, the station is very close to the city center, and it's beautiful, there are so many things to see, Turin has the Egyptian Museum, the Royal Palace and the Mole Antonelliana
Lots of foreigners (and also italians) make the mistake of use Genoa only as a stopover to reach the 5 terre. Genoa it's a beautiful city and it has lots to offer. it is an underrated and neglected city by the most famous cities,i wish that the local societies will publicize this city more. Many people consider Genoa a normal portual city, jeez, just the fact that this is the city where Christoper Colombus the discoverer of America born and lived it should attract lots of people from around the world.
I think if you have never seen the area of Portoria/Carignano and Albaro (including Boccadasse and Corso Italia) you saw nothing in Italy.. the most elegant, sophisticated, spectacular area I have ever seen... Besides the historical centre with the Rolli Palaces and such...
I would recommend reading guide books and restaurant reviews ahead of time and planning your days and even hotels accordingly. Also, read about the local foods before you order. You really shouldn't have missed pasta with pesto, stuffed vegetables, maybe pansoti with walnut sauce, focaccia di Recco and on and on. I mean, you're going to eat kebabs in Italy?
Kebabs are delicious and cheap! :) We couldn't afford to go out to eat that much, so we will just have to try more the next time! We did have focaccia di Recco, pasta with pesto, and stuffed vegetables. We unfortunately don't have unlimited money to try all the foods, or else, trust me, we would!
Torino definitely is worth a visit in one of your next trips. For a while it's been Italy's capital and the kind of Italy and the real family lived there so there are a lot of historical evidence, it is also a city full of cultural energy with many amenities.
First of all thanks to Lisa and Josh for their video i appreciate( I live in Genova). I understand that for strangers Genova is Genoa but I invite you all to call Genova ( Genoa is a small football team of the city)....... thanks. LOL
I think that your cheers to chopsticks was a wonderful cheers. I have never been to Asia, but I use chopsticks for everything. They are so universal. I eat olives out of the jar, ramen, and salad, they work way better than a fork, and you don't need a fork and a spoon. Obviously not so great for soup...

Grazie - il nostro gatto Octavius saluta e grazie! :) Sono d'accordo - penso solo che siamo così abituati a fare colazioni davvero abbondanti che solo una focaccia e un caffè non ci farebbero andare avanti per l'intera giornata!
