My wife wanted one of these in Touring XT trim. We cross-shopped the competition and this is the only car that ticked all the boxes: AWD, great interior design, comfortable ride, memory seats, decent power, quiet and efficient. I wanted a K5 GT but I couldn't find one within a thousand miles to even test drive, so I said screw it. Anyway, I've got a Challenger Scat Pack Shaker for hooning around in...
You covered the Touring XT back in the Auto Show in 2019 and I feel in love with it and ordered it in October and picked it up January '20 before COVID, thank you
Unfortunately it resets .. my routine starting the engine is to immediately turn off the auto start / stop and then the AVH .. only takes a few seconds ..
I bought a Legacy Touring XT at the beginning of summer. Shopped all mid size sedans and it was the most comfortable for my 6' 4" frame. The Touring XT has a pull out thigh extension that really supports my legs. Easily the most comfortable seats in the class and on the Touring they're ventilated. They're a really sharp tan nappa leather too. One of the best looking interiors in class. Plus it beat all others in ride comfort and quietness. Yeah, the exterior styling is pretty conservative, but its not faddish and will still look like a Subaru Legacy ten years down the road. Plus it has the best resale value in the class. The engine is really strong too and the CVT is fine as long as you're not driving like a complete idiot. Subaru's is an in-house design and chain driven. One of the best CVTs on the market. All in all I'm really happy with it.
I totally agree Jeff. I am a first time Subaru owner and I also have been driving a 2021 Legacy Touring XT since January. You can not compare a the car to a Honda or Toyota in it's class because they don't offer AWD, or heated seats in the rear. And don't even get me started with a transversed mounted engine, just try working on one and you will never own one.
I will be purchasing one of these probably in the next week or so. I'm going for the blue one. Love this car. I share many of the same feelings about the car as you do. Nice ride for sure
I have a 2020 Touring XT and love it. The review is pretty spot on. A very comfortable ride and a lot of overall bang for the buck. Yes the infotainment system can be a bit quirky but I think that holds true for many other brands including my former Honda Accord. Speaking of the Accord and reliability.....I unloaded my 2013 accord because of the starter issue which Honda acknowledges with a Service Bulletin but not a recall. I had to have my starter replaced. It was fine for 6 months and then the same issue started again. I used to be one who always praised the reliability of Honda and sadly I no longer share that opinion. From my experiences, that seems to have slipped over the last decade.
Own a 2015 legacy premium trim and absolutely love it. A lot of similar features to this model, just the older generation of course. Best car i have owned. The biggest thing i wish 2015 models had was the turbo. Was disappointed when finding out they didn't have the turbo for that generation model, but was happy to see them bring it back with the 2021 models.

Looking for a replacement in '22 or '23 but I think I'm set on a camry because of the Subaru cvt trans. Subarus have better CVTs (Made in house) but it's still a cvt. I'd be concerned about adding that extra turbo power or v6 in a cvt transmission. 8k to replace when out of warranty as repairing them is apparently not an option. Always enjoy your reviews with your energy and some wit. You just made me feel better about ordering (for lease) a 2023 Legacy XT Touring edition. I've had 7 consecutive leased high-end Accords, but the extra length of the 2023 made it too long for my garage and eliminated the Accord from consideration. (I'll miss the 2.0L/10AT drivetrain in my current Touring edition, and the great West Herr dealership, true enough.) My test drive in the XT plus refreshing my memory on the Symmetrical AWD living here in Buffalo were enough to convince me the Legacy was the way to go, since my wife already has a big, fat 4 door Wrangler Rubicon. The salesguy also steered me toward the Legacy as soon as he heard what my wifey drives. It's not QUITE as fast as the great Honda drivetrain, and the handling/body roll MIGHT be a tad softer, but I'm an old dude who will appreciate the comfort with the gorgeous brown Nappa leather. Besides, you properly zonked the new Accord on a few counts, and the great drivetrain is gone, anyway. The Legacy comes in a plainer wrapper, but with a fairly sumptuous interior. A zonk on the auto start/stop, the supposedly less responsive touch screen and the lack of LED turn signals up front, but the plusses outweigh the minuses. Everyone who commits to an order likes seeing a review like yours after the fact to support a decision. (I also put a deposit on a Sport Touring CRV after test driving it, but Honda leases on that impossible to find edition are outta sight...much better deal with the faster Legacy.) Thanks!
@@unonedva8407 the Accord looks much better in person and as for the Camry it’s most definitely a younger persons car. I have to agree with your thoughts about the aggressive front end of the Camry. All that said the legacy is boring me to sleep.
I have this exact vehicle in Black. I love it, I would however; choose a different color if given a chance. The black does look sharp when clean, but it shows every speck of dirt, and that is so annoying. The only other change I would make regarding the car is the addition of cooled seats. That option is only available on the next trim up (highest available); but I didn't care for the interior color scheme- with the Nappa leather- which is the only choice you have for that trim choice. It's a shame they don't offer a seat upgrade as a choice; that would have made the car perfect. Rides smooth, love the AWD and it does have a nice kick with the turbo engine.
Lovely car, nice looking, really love the interior, fantastic. Subaru has long reputation of realibility and safety. Great driving experience it seems. Great Choice!
The Legacy is a nice car, but it's just that. Nice. Nothing about it stands out except for the turbo. The Legacy used to be a proper sports sedan....now, for the $ it makes more sense to get an Outback for the functionality unless you really love sedans. I have a 2021 outback XT and the interior is superb. Comfortable and quite plush for a Subaru....I get compliments on it a lot. They have really stepped up the interior game.
To quote you Raiti " I almost forgot about this ride." That's Subaru's problem. Very nice interior, nice tech, and their AWD is probably the best out there, but exterior styling is super bland. Sedans have a hard enough time getting sales, Subaru needs to be a bit more bold, and no I don't mean a ton of plastic cladding like the new WRX.
Now if Cobb would release a tune (on their AP) for this engine, I'd pull the trigger....and that just may happen with the new WRX sharing the same 2.4 turbo engine.
This is an awesome ride for sure! Just picked one up a few weeks ago and everyone that has been in it with me said they can't get over how nice the interior and overall ride quality is. This is a sleeper for sure
Regardless of both cars features and performance. Subaru's hold the value much greater then any other cars. Toyotas although had great reliability in the 80s and 90s, i have not owned one recently to know but i know there re-sale is not good unless its a Supra or GT4 etc.
Subaru should make the “STi” version of every model it makes. The Legacy is no exception, please make the STi version of Legacy should come with 6 speed stick shift and boost the engine displacement from 2.4L to 2.7L and make it 420hp+
Subaru only makes STI versions for cars that are relevant to Japanese enthusiasts. Therefore, the likely hood of STI versions of Ascent, Outback and Legacy are very low. Since, they are not sold or sell very few in Japan. They used to make a wide selection of STI parts and STI model variations of the Legacy/Liberty but that pretty much stopped after the bl/bp fourth generation. After that generation of car the Legacy became less sporty and focused on taking on big frond wheel drive American family cars.
*HAVE YOU EVER TEST DRIVE THE NEW CTV TRANSMISSION IN THOSE 3 SUBARU SUV's?* Please test drive them then feel the pure meaning of smoothness and comfort you gonna get then come back here and say something... Forester, outback and especially ASCENT.
Going through car gurus, and seeing the different competition, this Subaru looks nice, would like to test drive and see how it compares to my accord, and would like to trst drive the mazda 3 too. Very nice, thorough review!!

My neighbor and I bought new cars in June. She got a Camry and I got a Legacy. I prefer the Legacy. Its not "dated", its conservative and evolutionary. The Camry's front end looks ridiculous and ugly and everyone and their dog owns one.
@@jeffmorse645 If I'm being fair, neither of these cars look good, but the Subaru's design is more restrained and that's appealing to some. I just can't handle the disconnect of a CVT in any car, and when combining that with Subaru's coarse/unrefined engines... It's a NO from me, Dawg.

Camry and accord’s have always been dependable. Now that both models look exceptionally good this Subaru looks far too tame
That Honda's monobrow though and Camry's face...Nope, thanks.
@Raiti's Rides Gotta love that turbocharged goodness!
Oh heck yes!
For the xt touring there is ventilated seat for the 2021 model
Lovely car, nice looking, really love the interior, fantastic. Subaru has long reputation of realibility and safety. Great driving experience it seems. Great Choice!
Great job Joe. I remember when I had a Subaru Justy back in the late 80's. I wonder if any of those are still around?
No lol
Just-three cylinders
The Legacy is a nice car, but it's just that. Nice. Nothing about it stands out except for the turbo. The Legacy used to be a proper sports sedan....now, for the $ it makes more sense to get an Outback for the functionality unless you really love sedans. I have a 2021 outback XT and the interior is superb. Comfortable and quite plush for a Subaru....I get compliments on it a lot. They have really stepped up the interior game.
Nice review keep up the good work
Am I the only one who still likes the old school gauges? I don’t get the whole digital thing.
You are not alone bro
Just something extra to break or go wrong with the electronics
To quote you Raiti " I almost forgot about this ride." That's Subaru's problem. Very nice interior, nice tech, and their AWD is probably the best out there, but exterior styling is super bland. Sedans have a hard enough time getting sales, Subaru needs to be a bit more bold, and no I don't mean a ton of plastic cladding like the new WRX.
just need to bring the legacy hood scoop back and maybe a small lip spoiler and it would be 10x more attractive imo
@@chancekelleher9818 I agree, that and a proper 8 spd auto and manual option
Yep, right on except I think their tech is behind the competition.
You need to go up to the Touring XT for the Nappa Leather with ventilation (plus a front-facing camera)!!! Worth it for ~$1700....
Good review as always 👍
Now if Cobb would release a tune (on their AP) for this engine, I'd pull the trigger....and that just may happen with the new WRX sharing the same 2.4 turbo engine.
Ooh. That would be nice
A great option and always a great ride!
I'd buy this. Nice car.
I am so glad that you are digging this Subaru!
This is an awesome ride for sure! Just picked one up a few weeks ago and everyone that has been in it with me said they can't get over how nice the interior and overall ride quality is. This is a sleeper for sure
My 2017 limited is fully loaded but slow. Nobody comes close to my 32mpg though
That is some great mileage for sure!
Regardless of both cars features and performance. Subaru's hold the value much greater then any other cars. Toyotas although had great reliability in the 80s and 90s, i have not owned one recently to know but i know there re-sale is not good unless its a Supra or GT4 etc.
I liked my 2005 Legacy GT with the 5 speed stick. This new one is fancier but slower.
The CVT kills all Subaru for me
I know how that feels!
*HAVE YOU EVER TEST DRIVE THE NEW CTV TRANSMISSION IN THOSE 3 SUBARU SUV's?*
Please test drive them then feel the pure meaning of smoothness and comfort you gonna get then come back here and say something...
Forester, outback and especially ASCENT.
Going through car gurus, and seeing the different competition, this Subaru looks nice, would like to test drive and see how it compares to my accord, and would like to trst drive the mazda 3 too. Very nice, thorough review!!
Color is awesome 👌
It would be much nicer I’d they gave this nicer 19” wheels. Otherwise it looks clean and basic Subaru no frills styling. But very functional.
Remember the awesome legacy GT of the mid 2000s. Subaru should bring that back.
Can you please do a video on the Premium I mean 35k is pricey but when it comes to the Premium you can snag one before Tax and Fees about 25k 10k difference
you got it Adam!
Hey Joe, is there a brake hold / AVH button? I didn’t see it.
It’s one menu in on the infotainment system .. I have requested to Subaru the next software update moves this to the front page where there is still room for one more icon …
None on this one.
@@mervstone17 Does it stay on in that case or you still have to turn it on every time / resets when the car is turned off? Thanks!
@@fizzlederp You do have to activate it from the menu after the car is turned off. It's a great feature though especially during long trains
I like it. Understated but still stylish. It’ll age well.
I think you are so right!
Are they going to be able to make a 22 or 23 or more of the same Subaru Legacy XT AWD
There is a richly appointed 2023 Legacy XT Touring edition.
I only regret selling my Legacy Spec B, a manager of a BMW dealer bought it
That was a rare car. I loved the brick red leather seats on the 2006 spec B
@@MyCatIsSmarter mine was 2007 dark gray with blue inserts
The last generation before Subaru morphed the car into a large American "SUV" family sedan.
I own a legacy xt. tons of fun to drive, plenty of power from the engine and boost from the turbo, cvt is a little annoying, but very fun car to own.
I definitely say Toyota Camry. I also have a 2019 Toyota Camry Hybrid, am very satisfied and love my Camry ❤ I also like the Subaru Legacy is a beautiful mid-range sedan but I would rather keep my 2019 Toyota Camry and every time I would choose Camry. Which would you rather buy the Camry or Legacy please? Greetings from Germany 👍
I just wish you can get the larger engine in the Toyota with the AWD.
Thanks for the quick answer 😉👍
Legacy 💯
Not a fan of CVT but this looks different 🤔 , is it? Or manual is better in this car ? 🤔
I love it my boy Joe keep up the work and I love the video lot real true 💯 👍 💯💯💯💯
The Legacy is better then the Camry in many ways . The AWD is the best. I get 35 mpg at 70 mph on the Parkway with no problem at all.
to me it looks just like my 06 altima shape-wise but a bit nicer here and there yet I bet the price is farther apart than the style is
i bought my New 2006 Altima for $19K second on jan 20 2006, what the hell has happened to the prices since then? After I bought my first new car, the cost nowadays has exploded. my pay has not kept up.
@@PrincessTS01 Inflation and car prices have both increased since.
Great Review
Two zonks for this vehicle for me is 1: CVT 2: styling that looks extremely dated
I totally agree. If a toast was a car, This Legacy would be it! I mean, just dry toast with no jam or butter. But you have people who prefer to be bland and basic. 🤷🏾♂️
@@jeffmorse645 Camry is trying to hard to shake its past generations. The 2021 Camry says hey look at me, im not dull looking anymore.
@Paul S wait till you try it. I used to think that way until I got hands on one.
Do you know what this Legacy XT's 1/4 mile time and speed is. The 2010-12 was trapping 104mph which is moving.
love the infotainment screen, would have liked to see it carry over to dash
I have current Impreza CVT and a 2021 Rav 4 , Toyota has a better throttle response due to a real 8 speed auto !
I like Subaru especially the Legacy but Camry motor might run longer though the Legacy is much safer as they said when advertising the commercial.
If Toyota offered the V6 with AWD it would be a no brainer. But reality is the Legacy has a 70HP advantage over the AWD Camry 4 cylinder.
@@rwdplz1 Getting an AWD V6 might be in the works for the Camry.
What's the price point for the Subaru Legacy XT LIMITED? The last time I saw I of your Subaru video it was a Subaru Outback Onyx XT was a few minutes ago and I kinda liked it, I'm wondering how much for the 2021 Subaru Legacy XT LIMITED because I'm a fan of Subaru
Damn no zonks the sunroof cmon subaru where the panoramic no digital display seems pretty 2010
They do have standard AWD.
I wish I would’ve gotten the regular sunroof in my Camry. 15k miles and the pano roof is groaning and I’m not the only one with a bill of 7k+
@@djncrti2860 shoulda got that extended warranty !! Lmao
@@djncrti2860 this is why I have no sunroof on my corolla and also in canada there is more snow than summer weather. Sunroof are an easy excuse for insurance companies to increase their rates
Hey Raiti, if you had to choose between the Legacy XT and the Mazda 3 Turbo Hatch, which would you pick? Seems the Legacy's a better value for money, though Mazda wins on design.
Rims look great 👍 👌 😀
need 2023 with and without turbo both please
Hey joe do u remember if the trdpro 2022 hybrid have remote start cause I’m def interested in buying that model with the red interior with every option…and that’s a must for me …thanks buddy keep the videos rolling son🤙🏻🤙🏻
Pretty sure it has it. Most new Toyotas already have it
@@jxmar_ I would think 💭 so too
Yes it does!
@@RaitisRides awesome thanks man….in your opinion would u go for this or the zr2 Silverado?
Please comment on cabin noise as compared to the other mid size sedans you’ve reviewed. Thanks.
I believe Subaru Legacys have a pretty quiet cabin, not Lexus LS quiet, but as good as anything in its class.
Coming from Mazda's for the past 12-15 years, this is really quite. Very impressed with the lack of road noise and the quiet cabin noise. My opinion of course
Warning chimes for driver and passenger is not new for 21. The 17 already had it
Thanks for the info.
Was wondering what happened to this car, forgot about this model and haven't seen Legacy's around in a bit.
I totally agree with you!
Hey can u pls share how u get all these cars to review?
Just a guy trying to start and earn from youtube.
So much room I fit in watching
When are they going hybrid ?
Joe why does subuaru have like no stock anywhere?!?!
My 2nd car, also 2nd subie,, was a 93 legacy as and now I have a McRae tattoo.
Now that is really cool! What do you think about the 2022 WRX.
@@RaitisRides hate the civic tails, the unpainted crosstrek cladding and how big the rear splitter is compared to the rear bumper.
I don't understand why the wrx GT gets better seats and only the SubaruPerformanceTransmission(is it cvt or a true auto like the brz got?)
I hope the STi is better than the wrx.
It'll have the same motor, displacement may change, but it won't be an ej257 anymore that's for sure .
I bet the 6spd is different wrx vs STi.
Raiti, what’s going on ? Hope all is well. Question, any word when you’ll have a video of the 2023 Subaru Legacy Sport ?
Looks good but wouldn't you rather be in a Mazda 6 Signature...other than the AWD.
If they still had one available new...sure!
well, maybe next year and it will be AWD...pretty sure they are in Japan, Europe and Australia....i have a 2018 that I'm most satisfied with but need an AWD and prefer a sedan. Thanks for your video I'm considering one.@@RaitisRides
Why CV-T transmission? It's 2022
I must get it.
Thank you Joseph
This looks better than the new WRX
You are not the only one saying that!
I am going with the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid XSE if Joe Raiti ever reviews it.
That takes time he is a busy man give it time and it will happen
They are hard to come by!
Thanks for saying that my friend. Plus the chip shortage has messed things up!
Looking at the thumbnail, I thought it was new Chevy Malibu.
What the hell are they doing? Are these the same guys that gave us the Legacy Spec B?
Sorry but prop rod is the way to go under the hood.... Can't fail, especially when you are underneath!
Looks very nice 🤩
