This might’ve been possible with the S209, but just ask any real WRX enthusiast what it took to get to 400 whp and how much it cost them. And that’s just the engine too. The new VB is tuned significant better than any other WRX that came out. 0-60 times are negligible because of the fact that the VB doesn’t have a proper launch control system and also the fact that you have to shift to 3rd at 56mph. Does anyone ever talk about any roll races between a VB vs a previous generation WRX? I thought so, because a stock VB will be toe-to-toe with a modestly tuned stage 2 VA and even a VA STI. But hey, spec sheets are the end-all-be-all way of measuring performance these days it seems.

I enjoy driving stick shift for an hour on Sunday. For the rest of the week I want tiptronic automatic. Why doing all these cars have totally black interiors? Black is very depressing to artistic types like me.
All the black cladding is a cheap design trick to reduce the "visual height" of the car and cheat your eye into thinking the car isn't nearly as tall as it is. It looks like a crossover when it's painted to match. 😂
Bruh when it comes to the rear end at the bottom, where the reflectors are, did Subaru straight take off of the Forte??? the design is exactly like where the rear turn signals are
This car almost hits the mark, but not quite there. Two things I'd zonk it for is: 1. A CVT? Really? What were they thinking? I need the right number of pedals and a 6 speed! Or even a DCT. 2. The exhaust is too mellow for this type of car. An active exhaust would add much more spice. I like that they integrated the infotainment screen. And I basically like the looks inside and out. Just needs a manual shift and an aggressive exhaust.
I loved the look and could stomach the fender flares, but they lost me with the rear end. Uh, the tS is the top spec not the GT but maybe that’s the models for the US. There’s basic, RS, tS sedans, then the WRX sportswagon: basic, GT, tS Aussie tS has STI trim also 2 person memory front seats, all heated seats, adaptive suspension, cvt only.
I get the whole stick thing as I’ve had sticks for 40 years. But I traded a 2018 STI for a 2022 WRX GT and the fun he is having driving the car is real. The handling is amazing. This is my 5th car in the WRX/STI line starting in 2002 and I think it has the best handling. Embrace the technology. It’s fun to drive. It downshifts aggressively into the corners all by itself; and rev matches better than I can.
I’m 54. I say unless you have a physical ailment, it’s a crime to have a car like this without a manual. And yes, I spoke with my wallet and bought a 21 WRX 6sp
@@gocars3210 It's one thing to be able to drive a stick. It's another to make a heel-toe rev matching downshift. I was a stick fanatic for years, but the Mustang GT 6 speed stick rev matches. It's a game changer once you drive one. If Subaru did that, I would've purchased that. The SPT rev matches very well with the paddles. I'm happy with it. Enjoy your WRX. They are really fun cars. Sorry, when you say "The days are numbered for these vehicles".....Were you referring to the fact that people are pushing for electric cars, or is just due to the fact that gas is a limited resource and goes up in price for when it comes to political issues? I'm in the market and just want to weigh my options.
Keep comparing this to the Type-R or Integra S, but they are completely different cars. Yes, they are similar in 'asking' MSRP, but that is it. The Base/Premium WRXs, like the plain GTI are the LAST of the hot hatches. Hot hatches by definition were simple upgrades of regular hatchbacks that anyone could afford. $30k today and you can have a GTI or Base/Premium WRX, which lines up what the classic hatches cost in the 1990s. The Type-R and Integra are loaded track cars which retain the old nameplates. 265 series tires on a sub-3600 lb car? That won't do well in rain or winter, it is for the track. They are also for the RICH. Try buying a Type-R or S for anything close to MSRP. Most are $50k+. The WRX GT needs 50 hp more factory horse to be worth it. 5.4 sec 0-60 is not much faster than a Honda Pilot! For the GT money, you can get a base 3-series or A4 and 0-60 faster all day long, in more comfort with a better transmission, that won't blow up if you try to tune it. The A4 and 3-series can have 300 hp reliably for $500. Spend $1000 with Dinan or APR and they throw in a powertrain warranty. See if Subaru or any of its tuners will offer that.
Benson Hurst Brooklyn here Sir Raiti Im glad I purchased my 2021 STI but these cars can be worked on its just 42k plus the mods that have to be done just not worth it but for a day to Day not bad
Exterior black cladding is junk. Looks awful. Seen it in person. Still hate it. Looks like an Aztek…. Which is fine for a Pontiac Aztek, but not for a sporting WRX 😢😢
I take back what I said about the Lakers. They are a hot team. Winning without Lebron. The Lakers, Golden State, Phoenix, Memphis, Denver even Dallas can make it out of the competitive West. In the East, Boston, Milwaukee and Philly are the favorites. Cleveland or even Miami could pull an upset.
Laggy touch screen and no physical buttons for climate controls Rear bumper they just stopped designing that looks like a park bench Best features locked to the highest priced trim with an Auto. I paid less for my FK8 brand new. This car is for two people; blind Subaru loyalists and people who think AWD is necessary. I worked for AAA many years ago. In the winter we extricated more Subarus and AWD / 4x4 than FWD and RWD cars. Reason was overconfidence in the magical, all powerful AWD and shit tires. A good set of winter tires on any car is a hell of a lot better than all seasons on AWD. Subaru needs to let it go. In the eventual workd of EV their boxer engine and symmetrical AWD will no longer be brand defining. They’ll just make cheap, ugly cars.

Damn so did Subaru just get rid of STI? What also happened with Mitsubishi Lancer EVO with MR edition like the 7th gen? Man screw this new era wheres a DeLorean when you need one?!
Why not DCT, dear Subaru?? Less profit or less reliable than CVT??
Did you make it to Idyllwild up 243? That’s a great drive from Banning!
I love it Joe and Lori and Steve and keep up the good work and I love the video 👍 💯
When I heard you say CVT I think that's the deal breaker.
You can still get a manual.
Too all the haters, drive it. The manual. You'll fall in love. Especially in winter on some good tires. Until then, 🤫
“ Soft as a butt on a Labrador” lololol
42K with a CVT? GTFO. I'm not even a "car guy" but you're out of your mind if you want to sell this "sports" sedan without a manual. Not even a DCT or something like that? No way. Integra may even be slower but it at least looks good.
my 2020 wrx series white sounds amazing with borla catback
Uh, the tS is the top spec not the GT but maybe that’s the models for the US. There’s basic, RS, tS sedans, then the WRX sportswagon: basic, GT, tS
Aussie tS has STI trim also 2 person memory front seats, all heated seats, adaptive suspension, cvt only.
US is Base, Premium, Limited, and GT. Then the new 24 TR will fall just the GT.
the Integra Type S has 320 hp, 50 more than the WRX GT. It would be more comparable to an STi (had Subaru not abandoned it.)
41k, wow. For a cheap 4 door too.
I much rather have analogue gauges. Put the money into a real automatic transmission if your not gonna give us a manual transmission at the very least
See you in the Mountains.
Great review of wrx gt. Can you review the 2023 subaru legacy sport?
Thank you Joe
How is there no A/C in the back!?
The non color match fenders looks so old school GM... and no that is not a compliment...
Great job, Lori! Ask Joe to take you to dinner at the French Laundry next time y'all are in Northern CA! 😁
Is the WRX rear biased AWD system? How does it feel when driving. Is it engaging?
elantra n is the best performance for the money
great video,,,,joe,,,,,have had subaru's since 2012 a couple of forester xt's and now a crosstrek sport great cars aren't like some of my old cars bmw 2002's and 88 m3,,,,but still great and trouble free,,,,thanks again
No manual? Poo
I saw one of these for the first time on the road about a month ago.
That cladding is a hundred times worse in person.
Not attractive at all...IMHO
This or Mazda 3 Turbo? Note insurance cost and gas milage 😊
I am definitely happy with my 2022 Mazda 3 Sport AWD Turbo. Looks beauty inside & out and it’s quick enough.
I'd buy the manual but from what I hear the cvt is actually really good
Lmao that exhaust note
no sti right?
Thanks for your thoughts on this one.
Zonk never gets old
Benson Hurst Brooklyn here Sir Raiti Im glad I purchased my 2021 STI but these cars can be worked on its just 42k plus the mods that have to be done just not worth it but for a day to Day not bad
ACURA NEED TONGIVE THIS GUY A RISE 😂😂😂
You’re right Joe…….kind of a strange rear end. I’ve seen a few of those over the years…….and some very nice rear ends. 😃
😆😆
Exterior black cladding is junk. Looks awful. Seen it in person. Still hate it. Looks like an Aztek…. Which is fine for a Pontiac Aztek, but not for a sporting WRX 😢😢
I take back what I said about the Lakers. They are a hot team. Winning without Lebron. The Lakers, Golden State, Phoenix, Memphis, Denver even Dallas can make it out of the competitive West. In the East, Boston, Milwaukee and Philly are the favorites. Cleveland or even Miami could pull an upset.
Type R still makes it irrelevant.
Gr corolla ftw
great camera work as usual Lori
Laggy touch screen and no physical buttons for climate controls
Rear bumper they just stopped designing that looks like a park bench
Best features locked to the highest priced trim with an Auto.
Too much plastic for my taste although it's a sport car. They need to step up
