Happy update: after the babies were weaned, dad, Cilantro, was neutered and reunited with his partner, mama Romaine! They were adopted together by a wonderful, loving family!

Guinea Pigs are extremely social animals and communicate a lot with each other.
Even if you spend a lot of time with them. A human is no substitute for an animal partner.
Many people have three or more Guinea Pigs and it seems like this is close to how they naturally live. They are herd animals.
If you keep 2 very young Guinea Pigs they miss the guidance of other older Guinea Pigs. And we agree with people who say that the dynamics of a ( small) herd is fun to experience.
I only have one but that's because the other one died a little over a week ago.
Fr bc I can tell by their voices, they're Americans. & Guinea pigs here are pets. Not animals that live out in the wild. They'd be like trying to chase after all the bunnies... If I saw them out & about. At first I'd be like awww 😍🤗. G.pig heaven. Wait, 😔💔 somebody wasn't careful w/ their pets. I can't get them all. & Their zoomies... 😭. They'll never last out here on their own. 😤

Here are some guinea pig tips:
A Midwest cage (easily found on amazon) is a good size for two guinea pigs, but you can expand if you want them to have more room to run around! If you, get more than two, definitely expand the cage or get a bigger cage. C&C cage squares (also on amazon) are great for making the exact size of cage you want.
Fleece liners are best for guinea pigs, but if you are getting bedding, do some research to make sure the bedding you pick doesn’t have too much dust.
Guinea pigs should have a CONSTANT supply of hay, water, and pellets. Hay is the #1 most important thing for guinea pigs because it helps keep their teeth nice and helps with digestion. They also need veggies (lettuce, cucumber, peppers, spinach, celery, kale, carrots) once or twice a day.
Also, you MUST get more than one guinea pig. They are social animals, and no matter how much time you spend with them, it doesn’t compare to having another guinea pig friend.
Just remember to do a lot of research before buying a guinea pig, just like you would with any other pet. 😊 They are such smart and sweet little animals. 🐹
My sincerest thanks and appreciation for saving the little piggies. I am heartbroken to know that someone would just try to dispose of them and leave them to find for themselves. As a society we should be judged on how we treat children, the elderly, the poor, and animals.
I love Guinea pigs. I'd never had one myself until about 7 years ago when a coworker of mine had one she couldn't take care of anymore and asked if I wanted it. Of course, I couldn't say no, so I brought her home. My just recently talking, at the time, little girl got the word "pibby" out of Guinea pig, so that's been her name ever since - Pibby. She's obviously an elderly pibby now and their normal lifespan is only 4 to 8 years, so she's already outlived a lot of her kind. For anyone who's never had one, they make a great little pet and they'll even 'talk' to you if you talk sweet to them and rub them. Our Pibby makes an adorable little chittering sound when you rub her back. I'm really glad I decided to take her.

DO NOT BUY CAGES FROM THE PET SHOP.
Most often Guinea Pig cages are too small for them and they need a lot of space to run around!
You would need a cage that can fit two guinea pigs preferably as they are social, and plenty of space so that they can run around and play with their toys.
Pro tip: use a fleece blanket to collect the poo and a rag underneath to soak up the pee. This makes cleaning up a cinch as you can just shake the poo off and change the rags!
I use fleece and I have a small cage for 4 of my piggy’s but I am making a diy cage for them.
Don’t give them toys that are colorful because the dye could hurt them
They're just the rescue people, they'll be going to other owners soon. The green cage they had is good enough for two guinea pigs though of course more is preferred. A mother and her babies are fine in there until they start growing past a few weeks. The black fence they had was just to give them a space at all
Buy a midwest cage off Amazon, they're way cheaper and much larger!
Thanks for sharing! Very few owners research enough about their pets to know what is truly needed. Also not all vets have experience with pocket pets. Piggies need lots of exercise, and should be given an area to have monitored free roam time. This can be done in your yard where they can get needed sunshine and fresh grass. Make sure lawn has NO CHEMICAL TREATMENTS. Timothy hay should be available at all times. Pelleted food should not be their primary diet. They should get a variety of fresh greens, fruits and veg. Lists are available from vets and rescues as to which are safe for piggies, and in what quantities. When free roaming indoors, remove all electric wires, and other potentially dangerous items or toxins.

As a Parrot Rescue we've gotten all kinds of critters from turtles,kitties, dogs even a lizard and a snake! Guinea pigs are very sweet natured, and they definitely all have unique personalities! My nieces had several. One time they bought a guinea pig (Oreo) who was pregnant, but they didn't know until they had her for a few weeks. At first my sister just thought Oreo was a little chubby, but she got bigger practically day by day, They took her to the vet and confirmed Oreo was pregnant. A few weeks later she had 5 babies!! Of course my nieces fell in love with all of them and want to keep all the babies! So to help my sister out, I decided to take 2 to raise when they were ready to separate from their mom! All 5 had their own unique personalities.
Please make a video for Los Angelo's Guinea pig rescue! They do such amazing work and are so so knowledgeable on Guinea pig care - more than anyone could ever hope to be! For someone from Canada (like me) to know about them- they must be doing something right!

My son and I had three guinea pigs as he grew up. They were named Minnie, Winnie and Ginny Guinea, and they lived to b 8, 7 and 6 years old. I built a run for them outside against my house and flowers for the warm seasons and had two huge cages joined together in the basement in the winter. When we opened the vegie drawers in the refrig to get their lettuce, carrot, etc, they would start squealing from the basement. After they had all died, I gave away all the equipment so that I would not be tempted to get a lop eared bunny.

Omgosh a Guinea!!!!! I love them! It's time for me to stop sulking and get another one myself.. My Jacob passed away 1wk before his 9th birthday a year ago.. Had him since he was 6wks old.. It's so hard.. I just know I Zammit replace his feisty butt! He was the king of this castle! He somehow taught my pitbull how to unlatch his cage when he wanted to come out and my husband and I didn't move fast enough, lol.. We wake up and are like, JAKE how the heck?! So I finally caught it!! My bull Meeka would unlatch it, go in, pick him up with her mouth and put him on the floor and then lay down like she was bowing to get king! ROFLOL...

Glad they got them before she gave birth. We didn't realize until we found out the hard way that guinea pigs often eat their young if other guinea pigs are around.
