Yes, some things in Windows are very simple, and yet utterly complicated just because of design mistakes like putting the reenabling option in a "secret" pop-up menu.

Don't know if your fix works yet, but gee it's amazing how well vista hides things from us. Who would think to right click in that box with the mics listed? A "stereo" mic showed up.

Have you tried the windows voice recorder? If it works with this then there probably is a problem with fraps...
Other things to be aware - laptops have internal mic's, desktops you would have to purchase an external one or have a webcam with mic.
If this is on a laptop - have you upgraded recently your OS? May be driver issue
no prob :) I was very happy myself when I figured it out... it took me a bit as I am a visual type of person even though I am savy with my computer... some people love explaining things from A to D without explaining B and C lol... thanks for your comments

WOW thank you! I was trying to record video commentary with bandicam and I accidentally disabled my internal mic and I went to the control panel and everything trying to figure out how to get it back on lol Now im back in business

Lastly if you KNOW that you do have a MIC and its not showing up... then there might be issues with the drivers of the Microphone. Try to go the the computer's brand website, look for support drivers for your computer brand and model and try reinstalling. On that note I will try to build another tutorial as some people may find this a challenge but its very easy to do. If you also did this and it doesn't work then the issue might be that the driver is not compatible with Windows 7

Just in case you did hear when I said that you need to "RIGHT CLICK" on top of the screen of where your mic is suppose to be and clicked enable devices? Again video is only showing you HOW TO ENABLE MICROPHONE!! If your MIC is enabled and is not working thats different -talk with your computer provider to get replacement... or if you do these steps and no internal mic is showing that means LAPTOP doesnt have internal MIC

i like to add here that if it is disabled in device properties, this does not work at all, it just says microphone does not exist, or something like that!

Please help My mic Doesnt work headset or not Desk mic it doesnt work My mic is Good stays good at 20 db for like a minute then it drops and drops till it hits -57.8 db and it sucks i cant skype or teamspeak or even do a youtube video please help!
yea, i figured that much out. but, now when i re-enable my internal mic, it plays this invrecibly high pitched noise and idk how to stop it.

Have you tried,right clicking on speakers/ then click on "Open Volume Mixer"
this is what i did with mine after having problems and going through so many videos like these and the web. Nobody has yet given me the solution to my problems. It's when you upgrade from windows xp to 7 and to 10. I found out that my old microphones don't work no more, it can only work wiht the more expensive ones..... what? Why did they work so well with xp? I deleted and reinstalled drivers so many times devoured all but none worked. This is the only way it worked when I accidentally plugged in one of those of these jacks to one of three holes. The yellow (or red) this time went to the blue jack and it worked perfectly, hahahaha. Try it, it worked in all my 2 laptops.
