The plaintiff claims the defendant knowingly sold him a lemon, so he’s suing. The defendant insists he sold the car as is, and the damage is not his responsibility.
I've paid less than that and had a great daily driver car it just depends on the car if it's well taken care of I had a Honda Civic 1996 stick shift I paid like $2000. Drove it a couple tears .. then resold it for $1400. If you know a little about cars and resale values... you can.. I used to sell advertising to car dealerships.. I never really did much under the hood of my cars... but when a repair or problem is explained to me I pick it up fairly well.. I've told my grown sons to save their money buy cash cars for 2 to 3 thousand. Going to a dealer often you pay $7000... and the car really is only worth $3000. I'm a women so often dealers assume ladies know less in cars... but it's a value knowing a bit about cars and also not getting ripped off on repairs
@@vivianpatton5692 Of course they do. We're an extremely over litigious society, here in the US. You can use anyone for anything. People literally make careers out of suing others and some will go as far as putting themselves in some seriously risky situations, just to bring on a lawsuit. So typically speaking, at least one of the parties are usually being unreasonable and/or greedy.
I don't agree. The defendant did nothing wrong other than being ignorant of the law regarding smog testing a car within 90 days before the sale. He also offered the guy $300 at the start of the issue. Plaintiff totally dishonest on the tax issue and on his ridiculous lawsuit.
Just hearing the plaintiff say that he is fine with the judgment proves to me beyond the shadow of a doubt that he paid absolutely nothing for the car rental that he was trying to collect. Now that these two have been seen on National Television clearly committing fraud & cheating the "Tax Man" by climbing to pay less than was actually paid for the vehicle, perhaps the "Tax Man" needs to pay these two a visit.
I don't think the plantiff should have won any money back as he was scamming for too much money. He was offered money from the defendent to fix smog problem.. He wanted to sue for more.
I think the reason so many litigants don't answer Judge Milian's questions is that they think they're playing chess and that every move should make their case stronger, not weaker, regardless of what their opponent wants them to do.
They don't answer Judge Milian's question simply because they don't want to incriminate themselves, especially when they know that there is nothing but lies emanating from their mouths. LOL
Yep....where some say Judge Judy would dismiss (maybe rightly so) JMM works a different way to "fish" info, especially to determine a tipping of the scales 🙂
I can't put 4 new tires on my car for $1300, and these people expect to get a car for that. The defendant shoukd have gotten the smog test beforehand. If the check engine light wasn't on then, it might have passed the test. As all of the TV judges tell the plaintiffs, get a mechanic to look at it before ylu buy it.
The tax man is the biggest cheater of all... I have very little remorse for the "tax man"... Too many people out here trying to figure out how to keep the lights on and feed their family. Let alone keep a roof over their head.
The plaintiff is an opportunistic scammer. He wrote on the bill 300$, that is his official proof of the payment, he should have gotten a refund of that amount, and he should have returned the car. The loss of his 1000$ would make him think twice in the future about what amount he writes on an official bill.
The plaintiff seems like a beautiful kind person, but when an adult says “like” 17 times in one sentence it starts to make me seriously question their intelligence 😖
The plaintiff made a complete fool of himself on national tv. Utterly ridiculous to spend $700 to rent a car that could be repaired for $400. And then he had no proof of paying for a rental car. Suing for $4000 for a $400 repair.... a lying thief.
California he got lucky I want to say there’s a few other states like Massachusetts and New York that look out for people buying used cars. Everyone else gets a hurt wallet and a weekend project.
I can't believe that there's people out there that think that they can take a car buy it for $1,000 just over $1,000 and then because there's a $300 Smog Repair they actually think that they can keep the car pay nothing and then also be paid $4,000 on top of it they really think that someone should give them four grand to take their car for free
CA has better consumer protection laws involving used cars but the plaintiff is a scammer and tried to get a bunch of extra money. I get why Judge Milian awarded some money but plaintiff was ridiculous and should have accepted the money from the defendant to get the smog problem fixed and avoided court. Scammer.
It doesn't seem fair that the plaintiff rejected the offer of the 300 from the defendant, tried to cheat via the court and was awarded court costs... Surely it's the plaintiff's fault it came to court, not the defendant's for offering the costs awarded
2:10 I would never do that. The sell price is there for the tax man and to protect yourself. If I were the judge, I would award the plaintiff $300.00 and the car back to the defendant. Teach both of them a lesson.
I like the defendants attitude! He was willing to pay to get it fixed and then said that he still won! Love it! Didn't like the plaintiffs attitude and sneaky ways at all!
Nothing ever takes 10 months to resolve a simple issue like this, plus plaintiff was cheating the state by entering a fake sale amount to avoid appropriate taxes.
