This is one case where the plaintiff definitely should have got punitive damages. This wasn’t a case of a misunderstanding. This was a case of someone was wrong and even when he was shown the correct way he wouldn’t accept it. At that point he was literally stealing their money by keeping it. You have to be punished at that point. And that’s what punitive damages are for. Punishment.

Maybe, as a tow truck driver you should be aware of the laws concerning registration in other states. This guy made an honest mistake, which is excusable. Not willing to own up to that mistake makes him a idiotic jerk.

I would have given the plaintiff the extra $250 for aggravation. Towing people take advantage of the law to take peoples cars , and now when it was not even lawful think he’s entitled .
It’s a shame that judges consent to towers . The US is a government of the people , not fascist .

He tried to make the plantiff look like a criminal when he threw in the comment about plates being switched. Everyone can see who had criminal intent when he towed the car knowing all along the registration was valid. He knew it and tried feigning ignorance of the law which didn't help him either.

No one gets punitive damages because the judge can't get it? Some cases deserve damages to be paid and other judges actually award the person when its deserved.
