- 2001 Jaguar X Type 2.5 V6 Petrol Manual. A short film looking at how the ECU could get wet and deciding the plastic windscreen trim has nothing to do with it.
[thank, you so much for talking you're time to show us all about things that we need to know about our jaguars]👍👍👍👍👍
There was a recall that fitted a fabric flap. This then covers the top of the ECU. Our 57 plate had it from new. Had a new windscreen like yourself and the fitter did not put the flap back correctly.
Nice info in the video - helps a lot with a misting issue I have.
this is common weak spot that almost everybody has over the time with leaky windshield and many car automakers having ECU just there with exposed cable harness. I have no other explanation as this being planned obsolescence. automakers test every material part in car they know exactly this will be happening over time. I have that too and there is no other way to have it there then being on purpose directly in a way of water coming down from lose windshield. it’s crazy to think they do something like this, because automakers have hundreds of ways to make ECU water resistant shielded or housed in a safer spot, yet they put it in a way of water fall which is only the matter of time of it leaking
2.2d: very unfortunately it seems moisture (moist air) can be enough or maybe water condensation.
I have this problem - for example after washing the car - and it causes a gearbox malfunction, motor management doesn't work right (hard running noise and vibrations, higher idle rpm, bluetooth and cruise control not available). Will seal cable/ecu connectors with dielectric paste, remove the ecu, open it check all soldered connections for cold contacts, dry and reseal it. The ECU work will be done by a specialist near me.
Mine is a 2005 model and my one is covered up. Looks factory fitted but it has split. Sealed it up with high temp sealant.
Mine 04 and your right, not an issue
Just catch the wiper arms by the nuts and wriggle up & down.
Those trays never went back on right till it touched the screen, job to fit it on that track.
The washer tubing used to kink at the os under that tray.
There's no way the wiper arms arms were coming off without a proper puller. I watched the windscreen fitters struggle and they had the right kit.
Why leave the ECU so exposed, it’s exactly the same issue with the rover 75
hi you are so right it and a lot more damage
Thank you !
You're welcome!
If the fan does not work and fuses are good power makes it work going direct then now what to look for on jaguar xtype 2003 to make fan work
Sound like the thermal regulator does not work. It is located just in front of the battery by the fan shroud.
don't say if it didnt happened yet as it just happened to me but the other side into the cabin and water on the TCM that runs the gearbox and same thing had my wind screen replaced two years before hope with all this rain it didn't happen to you
I have just finnished changing a DMF on my 2005 x type 2.2d v6 what a nightmare anyway I took out the plastic bags in the wings to let the water run out. Why would you make a water trap.
Originally they would have been for sound insulation. I guess they didn't expect these cars to be on the road so long the plastic would break up and let the water in.
My headlight stopped working after I got my windshield tinted water must've seeped through behind the dash.. does that mean its the harness that needs replaced or something else?
I don't think the ECU controls the lights. If water got into the lighting harness it has either corroded or insulated the contacts or blown the fuses. Dry out the harness with a hairdryer, undo the connections and clean them with proper switch cleaner. Sounds like a devil of a job. Good luck. The wiring harnesses are surprising cheap on ebay.
the x type was badly designed for screen water run of hence rusty sills .
Hi you are so right it and a lot more damage indeedy-do, luv these artificially generated blatherings? Anyhow thanks for the advice to i guess stuff up the little hole, you can buy bed diapers in the drug store and just stuff one over the casing in crazy rain i suppose. I think your plant life theory is pretty good, but not sure
artificially generated blatherings - what a great phrase. I will use that in future.
