Hi everyone and welcome to another Bimmer Fixer video.
In this video I show how to change the power steering fluid and reservoir on the 5 series e60 and e61. You might think that it’s not necessary to change the reservoir as well, but you really should as the reservoir has a filter built into it. Its also worth pointing out that its worth checking what fluid to use CHF 11S or ATF. This is because over time the sticking on the reservoir cap telling you what fluid to use can come off and that reveals an old ATF stamp so there can defiantly be some confusion.

@@TheBimmerFixer Nothing major just little jobs like the front bumper brackets for the wing, also want to remove the EGR & DPF, and full fluid change
@@TheBimmerFixer also something really odd, whenever I open the tailgate the headlight washers go off lol
@Streets UK I think that will be a broken wiring loom in join between the tailgate and the car itself. With the tailgate opening and closing over time it brakes the wires with the moment of the door. Definitely worth a look mate.

Not a huge difference but steering is noticebly smoother and my reservoir is not constant wet anymore.

Did you use a single litre of fluid in the end?
And could you re-use the pipe clips for the reservoir if you carefully squeezed them back in place with a pair of pliars?
@Ollie Campbell Hi Ollie, 1 litre did the trick but as I had 2 litres I ran some new fluid through yhe system to help clean it. You might be able to close the clamps but I wouldn't trust them holding. They are only designed to be used the once and could pop off when driving. Hope that all helps.
My steeringwheel is making a slight squeaky noise when turning at low rpm and idleing. Could this be caused by low fluid level? It sounds like there is also some noise coming from the belt at the front of the engine.
@FrenkDublin Hi there, yeah it definitely could be its definitely worth checking the oil level. The noise could be the power steering pump, if its low on oil it can make lots of noise.
I have a 03 525i automatic and I need to add more fluid but stuff in mine is pink just want to top it up but don't know what I need for it 🤣 plan on doing a full fluid flush on everything in next couple weeks but need to top it up so I don't need a new rack or worst case gearbox I know nothing about these
@stevefoster2398 Hi, that sounds like ATF fluid, i would doble check but i think it should be CHF11s . It's not a major problem but don't mix the two together. Because it's pink i would top it up with ATF then when it comes to the flush i would check if it need CHF11s then replace it with that. Hope that helps
Hi, I have a 525d E61 177cv, I also changed the oil with the green one instead of the red one, mine does not have active steering, but on the cap it says the same ,ATF oil only, the green oil okay anyway? Or i had to put the red one atf ?
@GabHSQ Hi, good question. You should be fine as long as they aren't mixed. What year is your e61?

I can open this cork of the container fluid while I wolud Sterring 10 left 10 right with my friend whose will looking at this fluid container when air boobles will get off?

how much oil in total goes in ?
@benkr5870 it holds about a litre but I used 2 liters to flush the old oil out.
Hi mate , my fluid reservoir is part of the pump , and not a separate reservoir ! Would it just be a case of draining and refilling? Also mine says ATF only as does all motor factors when I search for fluid for it ?
@chriscanning8446 Hi mate, yeah I would say that's fine as long as you don't have any leaks. If you've checked with the motor factors you you'll be fine too. 👍🏻
