Red flag if they ask you this question, means high pressure appointment: "Will both decision makers be present?" Questions: 1. Detailed pricing, itemized showing brand & model & glass type & specs including U-factor & labor? 2. Who are your installers, subcontractors or your employees? (hard to verify) 3. What will the installer do? Will he remove trash? 4. How long will this take? (dependent on number of installers) 5. What materials are they using, type of caulking, foam or insulation type? 6. Who will measure the windows, what are the credentials, will it be the installer person or someone else? (downsizing by even 1/4" to make it easier to install could make it a worse install); What tolerance of measurement, to what fraction? 7. Insurance for install, for leaks? 8. What do I need to do for preparation? What will you do? Move furniture, take down blinds, etc. 9. What is the warranty on window and on labor? What happens if my window breaks, how long does response take? 10. What are your references with phone / email contact information? Addresses to drive by? 11. Do you have a showroom?
Thank you for making this list. By the way, these points are all noted in the Chapters selection in the links below the video. It's a time saving feature by RUclips.
Dear Kat, God bless you. Thank you for writing these up. I am about to refurb my first home which I purchased, and unfortunately it needs new windows. I ALMOST got suckered into letting the builder do the window purchasing and fitting as I was naive as a first time buyer. I now know better and this list will help me enormously.
Was I the only one nodding and smiling as if you were directly in front of me? LOL Sitting at your desk was a great idea to connect with your viewers. Great questions to ask. Thank you for your help.
And THAT, is the thing that had stymied me at every turn, when wanting to replace windows and doors in my old house. I’ve had too many jobs done that were so expensive, but left things infinitely worse than before they were done. The old saying, “If it’s not broke, don’t fix it!” becomes an unwelcome mantra sometimes.
As an Account Manager for ProVia I just wanted to say thank you for great content! I take the information and “reverse engineer” it to help be a better advocate for the homeowners when working with dealers and giving the “why” on buying our product.
Jeremy, thank you for watching and for your comments. We are a provia dealer but all we sell is the doors. With your help, I'd like to make some door videos soon.
Someone else posted a version of this; I fleshed it out and used it in my buying process. To the extent it might help someone, see below: Questions: 10. Detailed and itemized pricing showing: brand, model, glass type (Low-E or argon), specs including U-factor, solar heat gain? 9. Who are your installers (subcontractors or your employees)? What will the installer do? Will they remove alarms? Remove trash? 8. How long will installation take (In terms of days and hours)? This is dependent on the number of installers that will be working. 7. What materials are installers using? Type of caulking (OSI Quad Max=good stuff) or cheap stuff? Will the windows be insulated with injection foam (Provides good insulation between the window and the house)? 6. Who will measure the windows? What are the credentials of the person who is measuring? Downsizing by even 1/4" to make it easier to install, makes for a sloppy install. To what fraction is the measurement half/quarter/sixteenth inch? 5. Does the company have insurance for ALL the work they’re performing? (Ex: Worker’s Compensation) Ask the company for a Certificate of Insurance and call to verify the coverage that’s listed. 4. What does the customer need to do in preparation for installation? What will the installation company do you do? Ex: Moving furniture, taking down blinds, covering furniture, cleaning up after installation, etc. 3. What is the warranty on windows? What’s the warranty on your labor? What happens if the window breaks, how long does it take for someone to show up to perform a repair? 2. Company to provide references with phone numbers and email addresses. Company to provide addresses that potential clients can drive by. 1. Does the company have a showroom?
Okay, okay, okay. I know this comment is late, but this and a couple other of your videos were very helpful and right on time. As a matter of fact I've got someone scheduled to come and give us a quote tomorrow. If this guy is not as knowledgeable or entertaining as you then trust me his sales pitch will be cut extremely short. Knowledge is power. Real power is when you have the money to spend, and quality is expected as the end result. Thanks for the videos.
Hey Jeff. Our (my wife and I's) window replacement agent was very nice. He answered all our questions. He demonstrated (with small models) how the replacement window would fit in the existing space. This considering the outside is brick. But I asked for a quote on "single-hung" windows. This is what we currently have. He quoted us for "double-hung" windows. Personally I think double-hung has to many moving parts. I want the advantages of double pane, gas infused, maybe coated windows. I don't want to be pulling windows out the frames. To me that's crazy. Now I do have 2 windows that are in bedrooms over the garage so they may work there for cleaning. I still want to keep the elements out securely. All that to say......are single-hung better than double-hung for protection from the elements? Or am I off base?
Thank You took notes I have over thirty windows in my house and you made me realize that this is a major major job so I'm saving money for it I am in North Carolina.
Great! Thanks for watching and your comment. I started a website to help people locate a great window company near them. We may have someone in your area. Please visit TheWindowExperts.com
Luckily I worked for a local window company for ten years., so when I bought my home in 2001 me and my cousin ripped out all thirteen windows and an eight foot patio door replacing them all ourselves. I'm looking to upgrade now to some casement wood, wood aluminum clad or something on that line. Of course I'll be putting them in myself. Your video is still very helpful since I've been out of the industry for a few decades.
I spent over 40 years in the construction business and these are all the same questions I ask of anyone doing any kind of work at my house, but for those folks who don't have the experience, this is a great video for them to learn a lot of great information. I'll soon be replacing the windows and patio doors in my house and I have my list ready!
My wife and I are building and I stumbles across your videos, thank you so much for the information. You are so correct when you say knowledge is power. I believe knowledge is money in the bank! We are up in Ontario Canada and wish your company was here! Thanks again and I will enjoy the rest of your videos.
Jeff, you are the man. What you described happened exactly to my wife. Deposit check needed, husband needs to be there etc. Thank you for your videos and education. We will do our due diligence and with my newfound knowledge I will be 100% prepared!
Hi Jeff, Your straight talk approach to selling windows is refreshing. I just had three quotes for replacing 14 windows in our home in Connecticut. I just watched this video so I missed asking a number of the questions you suggested. One quote was scribbled on a brochure. The salesman suggested I take a photo of it with my phone. They were the most expensive national ‘Renewal’ window manufacturer. I received one slightly more detailed quote that specified the window size but did not break down the labor and materials. The third quote included window sizes and ‘miscellaneous labor’. That salesman told me the labor cost they pay their subcontractors ($550 per window) during our meeting. In all three cases our conversations were friendly, low pressure, and confusing. This was my first experience pricing windows. I have work experience working with salesmen and contractors. I let them give me their pitch. The information provided in their quotes and the out the door price is just the beginning of the process to confirm I’m getting the windows I want for a fair price. What I quickly learned is that all three companies are charging what the traffic will bear and point out the $30% price increase since the beginning of Covid. We all know labor and material costs have increased and are continuing to do so. However, average cost of $1600 per mid-grade double hung window from my two lowest quotes seems excessive. Our home was built in 1974 with Andersen windows. Any information you can provide about how to calculate realistic energy savings and property resale benefits would be appreciated! Thanks!
Dear Houston Windows, I LOVE your channel and videos. God bless you my friend. I am about to refurb my first home which I purchased, and need new windows which significant adds to my costs and refurbishment affordability. I ALMOST got suckered into letting the builder do the window purchasing and fitting as I was naive as a first time buyer. I now know better and this video will help me enormously.
My wife and I needed windows ASAP. I called a few places and ruled out a few within 5 min. We ended up with a company we after a lot of research and are very happy. Wasn’t cheap, but it should last us the rest of our lifetime.
@HoustonWindowExperts Hi I enjoyed your videos. I had new windows but in several yrs ago. It was a terrible job. You can see daylight from the window and the window frames. Not the frame and the window trim. I have to put rope caulking in all of them to keep thevwind from blowing inside the house. I cannot raise them because of this. I really like the Marvin window reviews you did. I am on disability so the next windows I am going to have installed I want them done right. Do you have a company you recommend around the Nashville or Middle Tn Area ?? Thank you
Hi Jeff, great information. However I have one question about one of the 10 questions. I usually don’t ask question to the contractor if I don’t think there is any benefits to me and if I don’t understand what I am asking for. One of the questions to ask is for them to list out the detailed itemized in the contract. What are the use of and benefits of the detailed itemized contract and the reasons why contractors would not want to do it. I might have missed what you explained in the video so if you could spend some of your time to explain to me, I would appreciate it very much. Thanks again!
I think the main reason to ask this question is to make sure that they understand you are a savvy shopper. I have seen window companies and homeowners get into arguments about what they paid for versus what they actually received. If there's no detail showing what exact model product you purchased, there's no way to prove or disprove that you didn't get what you paid for. There are some less scrupulous companies that will show you a better product than the one that actually return with on installation day. Happiness in writing gives you a place to fall back on if indeed there are any questions as to what they are installing in your home. I hope this has been helpful.
I love your passion to educate normal person like me. Thanks a million. I didn't know any of these detail and first time in life shopping for windows. This video is very helpful.
I received a referral from you. The company is MWT. I am in the Atlanta area. I looked up thier window brands. The only I recognized was Windsor. The other brands were Masters, Interstate. I am not doing research on the other companies. I am originally from Houston. I appreciate all the information and am enjoying all your videos. I plan to do the project in one year. 13 windows. Priority to noise reduction and energy efficient. I am an odd duck and like a dark house. Thank you again for your informational videos. I have an appt. with MWT on Monday.
Hello I’m from Florida and I’m glad I watched your videos. Can you tell me where I qualify in Fla or how do I find that out and can you give any references or names of companies I could check out here and ask the same questions thank you, Beth
We are in the UK so I guess you can't visit / install etc, it's a shame because from what I've seen in this short video you are the sort of company that oozes quality & one that I would like to do business with. Thank you for a very enlightening video; all of the points you raised are pretty much universal and given me a better understanding of what to expect / ask etc. I will be trying these Q's out on our window appointment later today, it will be intersesting to hear their responses - thank you once again ...
Hi Jeff how are you doing? My name is Eduardo, I am a manufacturer of aluminum doors and windows in Brazil. I have really enjoyed his videos. Happy birthday
Im about to go into my interview with Renewal by Anderson's, and this helps me SO MUCH with figuring out how a potential customer things. Im taking NOTES!!
Window shopping is not a regular thing a homeowner does. Thank you for sharing 10 key questions to ask window sales persons. I learned the hard way by going with a big box company (Home Depot), I will never go there again. Ended up with terrible customer service and poor guidance. Ended up losing some money for returning windows. Not what I expected. Wish you could recommend window companies in Sonoma county area, CA. Thanks again!
You are right, buying windows can be a very confusing and difficult process. The goal of this channel is to remove those hurdles and help people have a delightful experience! I started a website to help people locate a great window company near them. We may have someone in your area. Please visit TheWindowExperts.com
So most of the questions absolutely make sense and any reputable company should should provide the entire information but, the fact that all of the decision makers be present is crucial to deliver an accurate, precise presentation to educate the customers and be able to respond any questions they have, one person can’t explain with detail to the other decision maker how the process will work or ask the questions that the other decision maker may have. Making sure you lookup and call a reputable company should be replace instead of that, any reputable company will send a profesional without high pressure sales, the deal has to be fair for everyone and having a company come over multiple times is not fair, it’s called business opportunity cost, I’m sure you are familiar with that.
I understand and respect your point of view. All I know is that in my market we have plenty of professional people who do not need a spouse present in order to make a decision. My spouse happens to be one of those. She has bought things that were very expensive without me being present and did not need to relay the information to me in order to make a decision. I have found, at least in my experience, that people are offended by that question more than they are helped. But I believe it's okay for everyone to do things their own way. Whatever it makes them successful is what they should continue doing.
I want to get into this industry. I admire your work and efforts. Have lunch with you. I work for the airline part time as a side job. I love the flying to Houston sit down with you.
Very informative I had a sales rep in my home last night, I should have watched this first. Pressure Pressure Pressure with a beautiful Solisd window but when we said let us think about it, we have more company's coming for an estimate the price dropped 12000.00 then again another window introduced for 90000 less, only tonight ! 3 1/2 hours later my husband asked if you can give me this price tonight you should be able to do it in a week as well.
Great video and suggested top 10 questions to ask. I recently met with the high pressure company. My experience was exactly how some of your viewers have described. I ended up using the company even though I thought the quote was ridiculously high. It was $10k for two windows. The company has excellence review. I was willing to pay if it is as good as it advertised. Now, I have watched a number of your videos I started to feel that I should have talked to more companies. I only talked to this high pressure company due to its perceived reputation by me. It is too late for me, I hope the windows turn out to be good. I do have more windows in my house.
Hey, live and learn. You can probably do your next phase for less money and get excellent service and materials. Check out JeffsList.com when you're ready to start the next phase.
I always ask if both homeowners will be there. Husband and wife have different questions and concerns. If one isn't there it will not get answered or lost in translation. If one spouse is truly sole decision maker then I will happily visit
Well said. It's the intent that matters. Sadly, there are some companies out there who will not even book an appointment unless both decision makers are present because their intent is to pressure them into buying. We don't operate that way.
I am from Canada, planning to replace my windows. Your channel and the tips are so useful. If you are in Toronto, I would have just called you for my project. Thanks for all your videos !
Thanks for the information! I loved the questions: Do you have a showroom? and Who will be doing the install? Quick story - we had a sliding glass door replaced by Lowes. The quality of the door is great, but the install was a total "comedy" of errors. Let's just say - I won't make that mistake again! Just like you say: A great door or window with a bad install is a bad door or window.
I like the product but I think they are overpriced. I'm not saying you won't be pleased but I generally recommend against them. Check out my video on Sleazy Sales Tactics.
Very well done and lots of good advice. I think it will help us walk through the land mind of window sales people and find the right company. I always appreciate your videos
Thank you for watching. By the way, I know a lot of great window companies all across the us. If you're looking for a window company near you, you might want to check out JeffsList.com
I think you mentioned youd avoid any glass but cardinal. But a recommend business here in dallas area qouted me on some gentek signature elite with ppg. Any thoughts?
I hate to say that I'm not familiar with them but it sounds like something you should explore further. My favorite glass is cardinal. My second favorite glass would be guardian. Please do not make your decision based on what I have to say, do your own groundwork and see what you think. I appreciate you watching and look forward to hearing good results from your window project.
Thank you for your response. The business was actually found on the jeffs list website. Are you not familiar with tge business or the window. Gentek is a pretty Old company. Anyway trying to find out as much as i can in a overwhelming amou of information
I will call my friend in Dallas and ask him what product he is recommending to you. I know he is a great guy, and does really good work. I am not familiar with this product. Give me a couple of days and I will get to the bottom of this.
Thank you...thoroughly enjoy listening to your presentation. I've been at this for a month and now turning to You Tube for even more of an education from people like yourself. And here I thought I had two wonderful sales people....but what would have made them over the top would have been a detailed estimate...heck I got one w/o prices.....then when I asked was told that the prices were retail w/o the discounts...well then just tell me that instead of submitting a blank estimate.....and yes I'd like to know what I am paying for the window and now have it all lumped into one price. The insurance was VERY interesting especially when you have them say the install has a 10 year warranty...but if they are out of business....we are still covered because he was insured at the time of the install....that for me was epic!!! Thank you again....saving your video. Do you know of any one in the Orlando area?
I just got the same bs about not being able to give detailed pricing because then they would be giving retail pricing. That doesn't make sense! Very pushy with the monthly price and financing with them. Not good. I hope to find a good one in Florida too.
Thanks so much for this info. I am meeting window salesmen in 2 weeks and I was asked if I was sole owner or someone else who will be in decision process.
Jeff I had a salesperson came to my home today wasn't able to give me a quote he mentioned he has to get measurements first I didn't complete the meeting because I had to leave and I'm so glad because I love your videos very informative I've learned so much he roughly estimated a price a bit crazy that why I'm researching I've scheduled another visit by that time I'll be a smarter consumer if you know any companies in the northeast region NJ would like to know considering Andersen windows because of fibrex alternative technology. Thanks
Do you know a window salesperson in LA. California? I just had renewal Anderson windows got price shock $21,400 for 7 window replacement, the windows that go over the original aluminum frame, seams high I know vinyl lot cheaper but he said they don’t last and start falling apart so not sure if his price is crazy or about normal
here in cancun mexico, the market provides garbage leaking aluminum windows with no technology ,made in little and medium shops (artesanal way). once i lived in the border texas-mexico, so i appreciate the quality of us factory windows. you are selling goooodddd products man.
@@HoustonWindowExperts its a question of building culture, to work on, on massive building companies that dont even use standard us measures. i am very upset customer, how to understand the value the building technology. when you come, contact me, saludos
Thanks again. Lots of quality advice. It really helps. % u pay extra for a great window brand. Rec'd quote impact glass windows but it is not an insulated Impact window. They say UN-insulated better in South FL because it will not trap in the hot moist air and is subject to being broken by golf balls (real problem) & replacing it will cost almost as much as a new window?
Thanks for the video. I sell windows. I appreciate both parties being present because I bring big heavy samples to the house and will ask questions about design and configuration. How can you give someone an accurate quote without knowing exactly what they want? You may have a different perspective on this because you have a big beautiful showroom but please consider those in home sales people.
Tracy, we do both. I'm referring to high pressure companies that won't come out if everyone is not there. That should be the homeowner's decision, not mine.
Great video! what do you think of the International Window product line. We got a quote between them and Anderson and wanted to see if they have comparable products. Thanks again!
Thank you for watching and your question. Unfortunately, I've never heard of that product. I would do a very thorough job of looking for reviews online before proceeding. It could be that it's a window made by a large manufacturer that sells it to a retailer with a private label. If that's the case, you should ask the salesperson who makes that window.
We just sat with Anderson, and I was just amazed he did exactly everything you said... I wish I had watched this video. We did get the , we will knock it down but you have to finance with us today...pressure was on. Well we did but called today and told them to put it on hold...we did not get a detailed quote..it was just him running numbers. Can you recommend other window companies in the Chicago area.
Thank you! I started a website to help people locate a great window company near them. We may have someone in your area. Please visit TheWindowExperts.com
Thanks so much for these great questions and information! Being an informed consumer is so important. I've done some advance research on companies before having them come out for a consultation. If they have a showroom should I visit the showroom before or after the consultation? I think getting detailed pricing during my consultation would be more difficult if I'm not sure exactly which product I like. Also, isn't it equally important to ask if they use subcontractors if those are covered under their insurance as well? I would think this could be a potential gray area. Thank so much! I'm looking forward to watching more of your videos.
This is great information. Of the 3 Window quotes received here in Sacramento, CA, only one vendor actually provided this detailed level of information. They even said it included the permits and so forth.
I understand most sales guys are high pressure. I am not that guy. But I do want both husband and wife to be present when I explain in great detail the process and the cost, once. Of course there will be a few follow up questions later and that’s fine. OSI quad max is the best. OSI quad sucks.
Not always. Some companies will put a warranty on their installation work but not on coming back later to perform warranty work. The manufacturer will supply parts but not the cost to install the parts.
Wow I loved all the questions but, I wish you had helped me out with what a good answer to some of the questions. I had a quote yesterday for 11 windows at my house they said that Anderson would charge around 39,000, four seasons would charge 21,000 but they were just the same quality. How do I figure out if what they’re telling me is true?
Hmmm.... That's a good point. I'd avoid Renewal by Andersen. No matter how good of a deal you get, it'll be overpriced. I'd get a couple more quotes and go with your gut, the reviews on Yelp, and the middle of the pack on pricing. You cal also visit JeffsList.com and see if we know someone in your area that we can recommend.
Thank you for this great video!!! I have a project where I am going to hire a company to install five sliding glass doors. Would the questions to ask be the same or are their other additional questions to ask in regards to sliding glass doors.
I think the questions are going to be exactly the same. The only other questions you might want to ask are regarding issues that might arise from the positioning of the new door. You need to know if the door will still match up to your existing flooring or if you need a new transition piece. It might be worth asking them what's going to happen with the interior trim. Other than that, the questions are pretty much all the same. Thank you for watching.
Hello what your protocol for your guys when they install windows when it comes to the plants and bushes so they don’t get trampled on do you have any protocols? Thanks
Yes, we try everything we can try to protect and tippy toe our way around shrubbery and plants. However, it can be very difficult depending on the home. If we damage things, we fix them. The most important thing is to have clarity and understanding of what to expect before you purchase windows.
You need to make sure that the company you hire has the ability to make those repairs as needed. Most reputable window companies are able to do that part of the work as well.
Only in the winter. I've got plenty of short sleeve shirts out there. Thank you for watching. You can email our office, we may know somebody in your area that can help. info@houstonwindowexperts.com
I know someone that sells a high quality window and has a high end installer and sells a house full of windows at a great price and cuts through all the bull trying to get a higher price and does not have a store front and by not having to pay such a high rent passes that savings onto the customer! A good window, good installer that uses high quality caulking! Showroom means you need to charge a higher price for that same exact window!
Camden Homes, thank you for your comment. I do see your point and in many ways I agree with you. That's how I started. I started in my garage and had a small storage unit I rented for $150 month. When I first rented a showroom I was very nervous about how that would impact my bottom line because I knew I would have to raise my prices to pay for everything that I didn't use to have to spend money on. As it turns out, the cost of our showroom is actually just under 1% of our annual sales. Yes, I do have to charge a slightly higher price than if I didn't have a showroom but in many ways it is worth that extra 1% to my clients. Being able to see, touch, feel, operate and compare several brands side by side helps many people avoid getting a product that they end up not liking as much. I don't think the showroom should be the reason to not buy windows from someone. If a window company has outrageous prices, it's probably because they sell at higher prices by using sales tactics, not because they have a showroom. Just my $.02. Jeff
Very helpful video, as I'm doing a full renovation of my house. Most of the items that I'm using in the renovation are easy to pick out, but windows are not one of those. There are so many choices, and figuring out what I want to install is nerve racking! This surely helps to make sure I get a product that I will be happy with.
Insightful and extremely useful information, thank you! We recently moved to GA and are in the process of replacing 33 windows. It has been a pain stacking process and we’re still unsure of who to move forward with. If you a have recommendations in GA, I’d greatly appreciate it. By the way, the tip about “will your spouse be present - this one hit close to home, I actually had one sales guy say “well sure you can do the presentation alone, are you good at taking notes?” My blood was boiling, I was speechless and couldn’t believe he asked me that question. Thank you again for such an informational video.
Thanks for watching and your question. Please check out JeffsList.com for someone near you. I can't believe that he would make that comment either, that is ridiculous!
get detailed itemized price offer, are installers subs or employees, is all trash to be removed, how long will it take, get type of caulking used (good stuff psi quad max), is injection foam used to seal, how accurate are measurements, are workmen bonded and insured, is labor guaranteed/insured in case of bad instal, do you replace broken glazing and how long it takes, references, compare with other brands.
Thank you! We are embarking on replacing 26 windows/doors in the Florida Keys and your videos are helping me with this process. Have you ever heard of ES Windows and should I be concerned with a company that states that the windows are guaranteed for life?
I haven't heard of ES Windows. A lifetime guarantee is pretty common now. They know that the average homeowner only lives in their home for about 7 years. They're just playing the odds and they usually come out just fine. You have to remember that a warranty is typically just for the labor and materials of the manufacturer, not the installation. It also does not cover damage due to a storm, etc.
I am having the Pella rep come out in a couple of days to give me a quote on replacing 9 twenty plus year old Jeld Wen windows. I am interested in the Pella fiberglass product. I copied down your 10 questions to ask and find your advice very helpful. Just wish you were in Akron, Ohio.
I had a roofing company come out to replace my roof once and they used subcontractors for the gutters. The salesperson wasn't able to answer my questions regarding the gutters, and I didn't really have any input or insight on what I would be getting. A few months after installation, the downspouts started to detach from the house. Fortunately they sent another crew to fix it, but I had to nag them a lot. I will always be skeptical of subs in the future.
Jeff. We live in the Dallas area...wish your company was here. In March 2020, I had a window company come to home and got a bid for whole house Marvin Infinity windows (Marvin is exclusive to this one company only...so cannot even check with another company in Dallas). The Marvin configurator said $88,000. The salesman said their normal discount was 20%, but he could beat that and give 25% discount, or do the job for $66,000. I thought that was still too steep, so I passed. Now, 22 months later, got some extra funds, so I am interested in doing just the north side (back side) of my house. Can I expect to get the same price and discount for about 1/2 the house? Or has the price of Marvin Infinity gone up since then?
It sounds to me like they're playing a numbers scam on you. I love the window, but I hate that company and their methods already. I would go do a search for Marvin dealers in your area. Marvin makes more than one product that's of equal quality and you can find multiple dealers for their other products.
@@HoustonWindowExperts Back 2 years ago, that company was the only one to sell Marvin Infinity. Based on your response, I checked the Marvin website, and found another company, called them up and they say they do sell Marvin Infinity, and will have a salesman call me. Do you have any thoughts about "OmniView Windows and Door in Dallas?"...as compared with the original company.
Frame quality is only going to be as good as the materials used. I am in the middle of creating a series of short videos that offer the benefits of each type of material. Stay tuned for those over the next 60 days. Every frame material has advantages and disadvantages. If what you are looking for is frame stability, fiberglass is absolutely the best. It is better than any composite on the market.
@@HoustonWindowExperts Thanks Jeff. I’ll stay tuned. Tho I probably need to decide before 60 days! Grateful for your videos even tho I’m not in Texas. Thanks. Ah....fiberglass wasn’t given as an option by Andersen Renewal rep. He said they created and patented the composite frame they use. The three options were Vinyl, Composite or Wood and Aluminum. I guess I’ll research fiberglass.
Would it be prudent for the homeowner to request/obtain a COI listing them as the Certificate Holder and providing the Additional Insured endorsement on the General Liability, the Waiver of Subrogation endorsement on both the General Liability and Workers Compensation in the event there is a claim? I realize the insurance carrier may charge for the insured for the endorsements but the value of the purchase merits the expense.
Not enough people talking about "frame depth" of the retrofit replacement windows. If it's too deep, it could mean your existing blinds or shades will no longer fit. Make sure you understand this before ordering.
Hello Jeff! Thank you for this educational info. It's a real shame that so many companies in the US are just out to take your money and could care less about the quality of their work. It's present in every industry and if consumers don't do their homework, they get scammed or disappointed. That being said, do you know if any great installers exist in the Phoenix, AZ area? Thank you for watching and your comment. Yes, information is powerful against making bad choices. I started a website to help people locate a great window company near them. We may have someone in your area. Please visit TheWindowExperts.com
Wish you were in VA! What is better Renewal by Anderson or Okna 500? The Okna looks cheap but reviews are great. Renewal fibrex looks and feels beefier- bit cheap. Worried that we will lose a lot of glass by replacing old wood windows with insert- esp if we put grids in with the bigger frames. But I like the looks of grid on colonial home. Which do you recommend? Thanks!
I already thought of a showroom because the one person we talked to said it will be 6-10 weeks out for service. Is that common or because they have to order?
But you don’t know anyone in Boston I’ve already reached out to JeffsList & you don’t have any listed :( It’s okay - I still love your channel! Thank you
Sorry... If we don't have anyone in Boston it's because we only suggest companies that we know and trust. If you find someone that's really great, please let me know.
Thank you for your videos and for bringing such great energy, great information and clarity! I wish you were in upstate NY, do you know any good installers here by any chance? Thank you!
Had 8 companies come out to the house for estimates. The only one that asked if all homeowners would be present...was Renewal by Anderson. And surprise...they were the most expensive & the only one that pulled the high pressure bs. They gave a 1st (fake) ridiculously high number...then they gave no less than 4 (we're willing to work with you) discounts...and then finally pulled out the "Today only" offer.
I'm not familiar with them. Who makes it? Is that the brand or the window company that sells them? Fyi, we have a lot of great window companies we know all over the USA. Check it out at Jeffslist.com
Red flag if they ask you this question, means high pressure appointment: "Will both decision makers be present?"
Questions:
1. Detailed pricing, itemized showing brand & model & glass type & specs including U-factor & labor?
2. Who are your installers, subcontractors or your employees? (hard to verify)
3. What will the installer do? Will he remove trash?
4. How long will this take? (dependent on number of installers)
Thanks for outlining them. (:
Thank you!!
Dear Kat,
God bless you.
Thank you for watching and your comment. I'm glad we were able to connect in such a way. I truly enjoy engaging with our viewers.
This was very helpful. Thanks.
Asking about the installers is EXCELLENT advice! I've seen tons of home owners sold on a great product but ended up with faulty installation!
@@HoustonWindowExperts I cover Central NC to the Coast however I'd be willing to help where I can 😀. Contact me anytime.
Awesome!!
Hard to believe but this guy knows n shares his experience with the customer. Not just a slam dunker.
Someone else posted a version of this; I fleshed it out and used it in my buying process.
To the extent it might help someone, see below:
Questions:
Thank you for watching and for outlining the content. This is very helpful.
I'm meeting with a window sales person today. So glad I watched this video! Now I know what to ask.
Thank you for your comment. Please let me know how it goes! Jeff
You are completely right. Single hung is always better!

Great job thank you very much I wish you guys were in FL

I spent over 40 years in the construction business and these are all the same questions I ask of anyone doing any kind of work at my house, but for those folks who don't have the experience, this is a great video for them to learn a lot of great information. I'll soon be replacing the windows and patio doors in my house and I have my list ready!

Hi Jeff,
Your straight talk approach to selling windows is refreshing.
Thanks!
Wow... I'd keep looking for a better window company. Have you checked out JeffsList.com yet?
I’m looking at Jeff’s list right now. It will be interesting to see who you recommend. It’s always great to get a good reference!
Dear Houston Windows,
I LOVE your channel and videos. God bless you my friend.
I am about to refurb my first home which I purchased, and need new windows which significant adds to my costs and refurbishment affordability. I ALMOST got suckered into letting the builder do the window purchasing and fitting as I was naive as a first time buyer.

My wife and I needed windows ASAP. I called a few places and ruled out a few within 5 min. We ended up with a company we after a lot of research and are very happy. Wasn’t cheap, but it should last us the rest of our lifetime.
That's great to hear! Congratulations!
So happy I found this.. thanks so much Jeff for doing this, I wish you were in New Jersey!

I would like to learn more about the American door and window system. Could you recommend me an online course?
I don't know of anything like that. I am sorry.
Hi Jeff, Thank you so much for this information....Also, if you ask do you have insurance, do you ask how much? What is a good amount?
At least $1,000,000

Very educational. My question is however, what if during installation they find rotted wood. How is that handled?
That would come at an additional cost but it should be handled while the window is being removed. That's the ideal time to fix those issues.
And no detail in pricing only description
Glad it was helpful! You're one of the lucky few who survived this scam.
Great information , thanks
Glad it was helpful!

Thank you for watching and your comments. Yes, we have a showroom at 467 W 38th street, Houston Texas
Great video! what is your take on Renewal by Andersen? We are having 11 windows replaced by them.
I like the product but I think they are overpriced. I'm not saying you won't be pleased but I generally recommend against them. Check out my video on Sleazy Sales Tactics.
@@HoustonWindowExperts I saw your video and learned a lot. Our guy was not pushy at all. Is just a shame they don't do single hung windows.

Thank you for your response. The business was actually found on the jeffs list website. Are you not familiar with tge business or the window. Gentek is a pretty Old company. Anyway trying to find out as much as i can in a overwhelming amou of information

@@HoustonWindowExperts gentek signature elite. Looks solid but alot of windows do. Thank you for the help
Thank you for watching. You can email our office, we may know someone in your area. info@houstonwindowexperts.com
Yikes! Be careful

Any glass will break whether it's laminated or not. Houston is a very hot and humid climate and we never see that issue.
@@HoustonWindowExperts I hear you. Wouldn't want to work for a company who refused to work with someone who only had one homeowner available.
Great! Thank you for watching.
Just found you, been watching a few different shows here! VERY GREAT INFO!!!!!
Thank you for watching.
great info ,you can recommend anyone chicago please !
I understand most sales guys are high pressure. I am not that guy. But I do want both husband and wife to be present when I explain in great detail the process and the cost, once. Of course there will be a few follow up questions later and that’s fine. OSI quad max is the best. OSI quad sucks.
Thanks for sharing
is installation warranty the same as covering labor ? thanks
Not always. Some companies will put a warranty on their installation work but not on coming back later to perform warranty work. The manufacturer will supply parts but not the cost to install the parts.
Thank you so much !!
@@HoustonWindowExperts sounds great most companies don’t care anymore it’s all about how fast can get it done it’s so sad
Thanks
What if unexpected situations arise such as damaged wood in the walls?
You need to make sure that the company you hire has the ability to make those repairs as needed. Most reputable window companies are able to do that part of the work as well.
You're always wearing sweaters. I don't imagine Houston being a chilly place 😂 ps...looking for windows in Durham NC.
Only in the winter. I've got plenty of short sleeve shirts out there. Thank you for watching. You can email our office, we may know somebody in your area that can help.

very educational. can you recommend anyone in the Miami Fl area
Did you ever find anyone?
Jeff
Thank you so much for this video. Very good information. Wish you were in San Antonio 😊
Very helpful video, as I'm doing a full renovation of my house. Most of the items that I'm using in the renovation are easy to pick out, but windows are not one of those. There are so many choices, and figuring out what I want to install is nerve racking! This surely helps to make sure I get a product that I will be happy with.
Thank you for watching. I'm glad I was able to help.
Buying my first home . Such great advice and info !! Thanks for making these videos . I'm in Idaho
Thank you
Love your chair!!! Anyone know what kind of office chair that is?
Thank you! It's made by LifeForm.
An excellent informative video. I am glad that I did not sign the contract for the windows a few weeks ago. Thanks for posting the video.
Thank you for watching. I'm glad I was able to help.
get detailed itemized price offer, are installers subs or employees, is all trash to be removed, how long will it take, get type of caulking used (good stuff psi quad max), is injection foam used to seal, how accurate are measurements, are workmen bonded and insured, is labor guaranteed/insured in case of bad instal, do you replace broken glazing and how long it takes, references, compare with other brands.
Thank you for your comment
@@HoustonWindowExperts just notes to myself. BTW, great videos, very informative and objective.
Thank you!
Glad to be of help!!
Best window and door walkthrough I've found, well done.
Thank you for watching.
Thank you for watching and your comment. Good luck.
I'm not familiar with them. Sorry
Hi Jeff, Thanks. Have watched 3 of your videos so far. Do you have one on frame quality? I just commented more in depth on another video.
Look into the Pella impervia series.
I want to move to Houston just to get windows from you. I'm outside DC and it's a nightmare here.
Yikes, sorry to hear that. Have you checked out JeffsList.com to see if we know anyone near you that does a good job?
Would it be prudent for the homeowner to request/obtain a COI listing them as the Certificate Holder and providing the Additional Insured endorsement on the General Liability, the Waiver of Subrogation endorsement on both the General Liability and Workers Compensation in the event there is a claim? I realize the insurance carrier may charge for the insured for the endorsements but the value of the purchase merits the expense.
We do it all the time. It's a great idea.
Not enough people talking about "frame depth" of the retrofit replacement windows. If it's too deep, it could mean your existing blinds or shades will no longer fit. Make sure you understand this before ordering.
Jeff, thank you very much for the information. I'm currently getting quotes for vendors here in Orlando, FL and I'm gong crazy.
Thank you for watching. Please email our office, they may have someone in your area that we can recommend.

Hi found your videos “very” informative. I live in the Plano Texas. Can you recommend a company. Thank for your information.
Yes, I just opened a branch in DFW!

Thanks again!
Thanks!
Yikes... Such a tough choice. They're both good windows. I'd go with visual appeal at this point.
I already thought of a showroom because the one person we talked to said it will be 6-10 weeks out for service. Is that common or because they have to order?
Due to covid windows are taking much longer right now than normal. Most of our window brands are at least 6 weeks. That is not uncommon.
But you don’t know anyone in Boston I’ve already reached out to JeffsList & you don’t have any listed :(
It’s okay - I still love your channel! Thank you

Hahaha... Good for you! If you don't find what you want, please check out my list of great window companies. There may be one near you. JeffsList.com
What do you think about Woodbridge windows??? Are there windows worth the price?? Thank you…
I'm not familiar with them. Who makes it? Is that the brand or the window company that sells them?
Fyi, we have a lot of great window companies we know all over the USA. Check it out at Jeffslist.com
You're "The Window Whisperer." Great video!!

Just made 4 appointments for quotes. Each one asked if both decision makers will be there.
