Very nice, like the effect both modifiers make so cannot pick one! When I have shot at that wide F Stop there have been times when the focus is soft or slightly off. Thanks for sharing such great content. Much Health and Success to you Jason Allen!
Hopefully they stare making these pop up systems with reflector plates in mind, but I'd just compensate by dropping the power a smidge. Great photos, as always.
If you get a super clamp you can attach the strobe to the base of your light stand or even on a leg - which helps weigh it down w/o a sandbag and makes for a low center of gravity. Not sure how that would work with a tripod but I gave up on tripods after they blew away a couple times. 😅. Also deflector plates are good for reducing hot spots on the face so if you’re feathering it’s a non-issue in my experience. Great video ! 🙌
I think I prefer the old faithful too but its probably softer due to the bigger size of the soft box.. The colour shift, like you, would not factor into my decision one way or the other, only the portability would be my ultimate swing vote.. Great video again..
It's an extra step, but I always go with the deflector plate to get a softer spread of light and avoid hotspots. Having said that, I am now seriously looking at that Tarion softbox just because it sets up so quick.
@@vorpaledgephotography super quick to pop up for sure! It takes up so much less space! It’s great for travel and fits easily in a suitcase! Unlike my EZ Lock
Just to make it more complicated: it actually changes the quality some depending on which way you mount deflector. Then if you use extension rod it’ll change again. So 4 different choices. 😂. The difference in actual use is minimal. I tested against studio wall to see difference.
@@RichardCornelius I’ve always used it as well. I was working with another photographer the other day who left his softbox and asked if I had an extra. I offered him one of these. I told him the differences and he asked if I had tested the differences. I figured it would make for a good video!
I am a hobbist and I have to setup and break down my softboxes for/after every shooting. I like the fast open mechanism. Since I also own studio strobes for the different brands (using different mounts) I like the push-bottom mechanism for changing the speedring. Lets hope, Tarion offers a speedring for HENSEL studio strobes, too.
The deflector plate seems to tame the strength of the light on Victoria's face making it more uniform. I like that look better. Jason, what you using for ND filters? Variable or not and which ND strength do you seem to use the most? Thanks for sharing this shoot with us!
1. Either softbox is fine - I've shot many magazine shoots with just internal diffusion in the softbox (no "beauty dish" inside). 2. The model is a real find, A+. Originally from Australia, I have been living in Vietnam for a few years now and started to get back into photography about 2 years ago after a long break. I've seen girls who have developed as models and even become finalists in Miss Vietnam etc, it is a real pleasure working with girls like that.
Hey Jason I’m new to your channel and like what I saw. I’m going to check out more of your videos, but I have one question. Have you ever considered or tried the black dish ??
I purchased one to test out, if you’d like to borrow it and see what you think I’d be willing to ship it to you for testing. Maybe you could make a video with it. I have till the end of January to return it. lol
Hey I am wondering why didn’t u go for hs and stop the background from blowing out like that ?? I mean does are some great shots honestly but I am just curious to know ..
@@naziiprod1409 I have an ND filter on and haven’t really been doing much HSS lately. As for the images being blown out. First off. I don’t feel they are that blown out honestly. Do I see blue sky, no? But I also don’t need blue skies and more dramatic lighting either. I can definitely do it. I just prefer less of the dramatic flash look.
Thanks for always addressing issues I never knew I needed to think about-love the comparison!! Also, what are you tethering your light to? My AD600 took a backwards dive this weekend and I’m just now recovering ❤️🩹 (it survived but I nearly didn’t!!) The photos ROCK, your model is stellar!!! I’d love to work with y’all!
Fab Jason. Super model. A great set of shots.
Yeah, I really like the warmer tone with the deflector. Great shots. Love your vids. Victoria nailed it. Great job, Jason.
🔥 every time you post a video, I learn something new. Thank you
Great video, always a joy to watch your videos.

Victoria is an 11. She knows what she is doing and you took some great shots.
Both ways look good, but with the deflector looks great! Got me ready to buy one with a reflector!

Without the deflector is way more specular. I agree the deflector plate makes it way more polished looking.

I always use the deflector plate plus it helps with hotspots.

Great portrait shoot. What model is the tripod and how you converted it into a light stand?
Amazing,Which nd filter used?
Hello and thank you for your video. Why Doesn t it pop more than in your others videos ? Too far or the godox ad600 don t punsh enough ?
Where did you purchase the lens filter? I need that.
It’s Freewell v2

So are you always using an ND filter by default now? Meaning regardless of the light outside?
Pretty much. All the time for posed images. Anything requiring stopped action like dance, I go to HSS
