Paul was good during this time period. Now? Not so much. Dave never liked playing Paul's songs so he played them "his" way. It's not that he couldn't, he just chose to play them differently. Paul can't play double bass anymore and struggles to get through his own songs. Moral of the story, Dave is STILL amazing... Paul on the other hand... Oh well! 🤷🏻🤣
No there isn't.Dave is awesome but bostaph has a much wider pallet in creativity and is more interesting.Dave had difficulty playing this song along with all of Paul's parts.
@@sticksman7819 Disagree 1000%. First of all, the Paul Bostaph you're talking about was 1994 Paul. After 2001, Paul's abilities eroded significantly. In this performance, Paul was still in top form. I watched Paul butcher "Angel Of Death" and "War Ensemble" during their last tour. If you see his drum cam videos of those same songs from said tour, you'll see what I'm talking about. He even struggles to get through his own songs. He's very tense and stiff when he plays. Dave on the other hand is still as good as he was when he recorded "Reign in Blood", if not better! Dave never liked playing Paul's songs and when he did play them, he played them "his" way. But Dave never struggles with anything he plays. I suggest you watch Dave's recent drum cam videos and see how good Dave STILL is! His double bass runs are smooth and on time and his playing has feeling. I've seen both live from 1990 through Slayer's last tour and Dave Lombardo is hands down superior to Paul Bostaph. I'm not saying Paul isn't good, he just no longer has the capabilities he once had. Paul has had knee injuries having been an athlete, which could explain his inability to play like he used to. But claiming Paul is better than Dave is highly inaccurate. Take it from a Slayer fan since 1985 and a drummer since 1981.
@@KingDevilCharger Pretty fair comment but for me I think Paul's drumming is far more interesting and harder to play take Divine intervention for example.Ive been a Slayer fan from around 1993 and play drums myself from around the same time and for me I found Paul's parts more difficult to play where Dave is a legend and has incredible stamina and hits like a train. Also been fortunate enough to see Slayer with both drummers behind the kit Dave was incredible as was Paul.Just my own personal choice that Paul's playing is tastier and more technical.Im not saying that technical means a better player but for me it's Mr Bostaph.
@@sticksman7819 Fair enough, I respect your personal taste. And don't get me wrong, "Divine Intervention" is one of my favorite albums because Paul was at his best in my opinion. "God Hates Us All" is another master piece that Paul played on. Paul has always been a creative, innovative drummer. His work with Slayer, Forbidden, Testament and Exodus is among the best in metal. If we leave it up to personal choice however, I'm ridin' with Mr. Lombardo. I am the drummer I am today because of him and is the one who created and perfected this style of drumming. The God Father of the metal drumming 🤘🏻
