Sweden are soon to follow. I've got friends and co-workers from Ukraine and Poland who had to run from this mess. They're safe in Poland now. The big lesson? Countries should respect each other's space and not attack. The US and EU are in a tricky spot. With Russia acting tough, there's a lot at risk. They're helping Ukraine because it's the right thing to do and to prevent more trouble in other nearby countries. When you say, "We don't support anything," think about what that really means for peace and friends around the world. Reason the govt doesn't give much $ to help poor or struggling Americans is bc we believe in rugged individualism and sink or swim capitalism. If the government started giving, for example, a guaranteed minimum income to every American, conservative elements would get very angry and claim 1) It's not fair to give Spencer and Ryan, or whoever, a free handout, bc the rest of us worked hard and played by the rules and the government shouldn't reward "laziness"; 2) Giving $ handouts or a minimum income to Americans is un-American and you are turning us into a socialist country like Norway. Remember when Obama wanted to give Americans free health-care. He succeeded in spite of conservatives calling him a socialist for wanting to help ordinary Americans. So it's OK for the government to spend $ to help foreign countries and to subsidize corporations and give them huge tax cuts but if a president tries to help regular folks, like FDR did, they call him a socialist, Communist, etc.
