I have an older reg cab I did a center console in and it's down pretty good so guess I'm going to have to go that route on this truck to. I'm kinda of hesitant on skar bc I did 2 sundown x 12s in a blow through for a friend and we tried a SK3500 for all of 2 mins then the protect came on and wouldn't go off. But the thought of a t1500 or something alot those lines if more than I really want to put into it.
I've got 2 of those in 10" in a ported downfire box on same amp. I wanted to run a box like that but im just too nervous about having to ditch one of my kids in the middle of the woods because their heels went through one of my subs.

Yeah you’ll hit a limit on the stock sound processing (assuming you have same generation as my truck) so I may suggest going for a little .. less .. to start. Max the box air space out for whatever subs you choose and size amp appropriately. Downfiring could be cool I haven’t had any experience with that setup before but always wanted to try
That enclosure is sick! Is the amp still running good at 1 ohm after 2 years? And have you had any problems with it? Im thinking about buying the same amp. Thanks!

Bro! are me and you the only people that ground our amps to the battery?? I installed my 1st amp in high school 1987, never trusted a bolt on tin metal haha. I've never seen a video on the Tubes were someone says they grounded to the battery. Either grounded to the spot the Manufacturer used or the battery are the best, in my opinion..
@@srtdoff01 not sure yet. I have very limited space underneath the back seat so I'm guessing a custom fiberglass box will hive me the maximum air space needed as for the amp its an mtx rated for 1000 watts. Hopefully its not too much but just enough.

I like the set up man. I'm trying do 4 ZVX Series 8's in a Bobby Gately box paired to two amps 2 ohms per 2 subs in my 17 King Ranch. Hoping it hits good lol. Question though if you don't mind. How does the factory system sound with your current set-up? I saw you mentioned tweeters in the video so I don't know if I should plan on doing my highs so I can still hear the music.
Austin Bowling hey .. honestly the mid range is lacking a lot, but I feel the tweeters at least brought back some highs. I can listen on volume 26ish with the subs at 50% gain with no distortion and it sounds fine ... the bass slams but it’s just the midrange that needs work. I have all the pieces parts to finish the rest of the system now (zen a2b, focal components, mid amp, etc) just haven’t done it yet. I believe you’ll be happy for a while with the sub upgrade and maybe some tweeters.
Chris Schroeder I had two at first in basically the same setup. It sounded great musically, but I needed more for rock style music. The 4 sub setup really punches you in the gut with clean kick drum hits.
@@srtdoff01 Oh sure I get that - more is never wrong lol but unfortunately I would struggle to get 4 in my XLT because of the power inverter underneath the passenger side of the rear bench seat. I could maybe squeeze 3 in but I'll probably be looking more toward doing dual 8" subs downfiring or I may try to pop in 2x 10" shallow mount subs around 500-600W RMS and that should do the trick too since the greater surface area helps bring the SPL up and gives you more of that "gut punch". Your system is a really cool setup though.
Chris Schroeder I hear ya. My limited has the power inverter under the passenger side also, but it’s set back far enough to where it doesn’t interfere with a full length box. 2x shallow mount 10’s will certainly get the job done! Let me know if you need help or have questions when you get going,.

Los2 hot hey man sorry for the late reply ... I am not sure about clearance for other subs. I basically mapped out the minimum dimensions required for the sub mounting, figured out the angle that the sub needed to sit at and then built around those dimensions to stay within the stock seat mounting configuration. It’s not rocket science, just needs some patience and a couple good tools my bro.
Ok, I need to pick your brain. Firstly, badass setup. I have a 2020 F-150 Lariat, so same space and I'm looking to do mine right. I have read most if not all the comments and I won't be asking the same questions everyone else has. That being said, I am concerned about the available volume vs what the subs need/want. Skar says those VD-8s like to have 0.75 cuft each. Based on my calculations of your dimensions and after port and sub displacement, your box comes out to ~1.5 cuft total/0.375 cuft each sub. I wonder if they are suffering from having an undersized box. I do see how your new 2500 amp would move them better and potentially compensate but I'm also wondering if it would sound better having 2 VD-8s or 2 EVL-65 because they only need 1.5 cuft and 1.2 cuft respectively.
Hey Manuel! I think your calculations are pretty close. Preceding this video, I actually started with only 2 VD-8 subs in the same size box on the 1200.1 amp, but it felt like the subs were stretching past their comfort zone regarding physical displacement. It was a nice setup (for a week haha) but I wanted more. I also really liked the look of 4x 8” so decided to switch it up. Considering the two setups, I believe the 4x feel louder and are definitely punchier than the 2x setup. I won’t disagree that the 4x setup is probably choking a little … I did stuff this current setup with a fair amount of polyfil which although muffled the overall output, it also really cleaned the response of the speakers up. If I were to do a 2x setup, I wouldn’t use the VD-8s … they don’t feel rugged when actually given proper air volume compared to the construction of something like the EVL.
@@srtdoff01 Thank you for getting back to me. I see what you're saying and I'm thinking of maybe doing a 2x EVL-8 D2 build. I've been playing around with several box/volume/port calculators and I'm thinking 2 of these would be a happy medium between available space and power. The EVL-8s will probably want more than 1.5 but I think it can work with the SKV2-2500 and some poly-fil. I want to maximize that space and not go crazy with lift kits or nothing like that and definitely NOT looking to bust my windshield. On a different note, I am also planning on replacing all of the speakers with some TX65's and TX65c's. Did you replace yours and what did you do about the little center speaker in the dash?
@@mriosf I think you’ll be very happy with that setup! If I did it again I would maximize 2x EVLs instead of 4x VDs. I only replaced the tweeters and also removed the center stage speaker.
@@srtdoff01 Hey my man, I think you mentioned in another comment that you did the big 3. How many feet of cable did you end up using? I am spec'ing put my setup to get all the 1/0 gauge ofc I need. On that note, how long was your run from the battery to the amps in the back?

It’s less than 1.0 per side (box is divided in two with two subs per side) I know it’s too small technically but I don’t really care 😂. When I do another build I’m going to do 2x 8’s but competition grade and give them more breathing room.
@@srtdoff01 Awesome...i did 4 SVR 8" and each sub gets .61 which is a bit to small....you cant really tell until you get the volume up pretty high then you can hear the box choking slightly. Much better option is to use 3 of them at .71 per sub tuned to 36 hz....this box is tuned to 36 hertz as well and really sounds very good. My truck is a 2015 GNC Sierra 1500 crew cab and the biggest i can get with a 2-1/2 seat lift is 2.92 cubes gross.....i actually prefer 6.5 subs in a truck they sound great. For reference im using a 1500 watt amp by audio control.
Likely due to personal preference. For myself, if someone would’ve put a hole in one of the subs, I would’ve replaced it and it would not have bothered me.
I’ve got a ported box that will fit 4 8”s, the 4 subs, one of the amps in the description, and all the wiring I chose (1/0 gauge wiring). Should that be all I need to get these set up and running well in my 2015 F150?
Most likely need a Line Out Converter (depending on what your factory trim level of your truck is and depending on if your stereo is OEM or aftermarket)
Higher impedance filters out unnecessary noise better, which is almost completely unnecessary on sub bass as our ears aren't all that sensitive to those frequencies to begin with. It is far easier to create more power at lower impedance, therefore you often see larger amps stable to 1ohms. There really is no intrinsic "better" impedance. If the source is clean, and no over-level clipping is introduced by driving the gain too high, all a lower impedance means is more power. Typically, with your mids/highs, people stay above 2ohms and preferably above 4ohms. Music is dynamic, and you often only see the wired impedance on a certain frequency. As you move above and below that frequency impedance will rise due to many factors and you can see upwards of 100ohms of resistance.
Sorry … my truck is in the U.S. but I stay in Taiwan. I will not see it for a while. I think there are other videos on RUclips where you can find that, though!
How do you have your amps mounted in the back? I have a 2019 Xlt and I’ve been thinking about putting subs in this truck like my other but I’ve been hesitant because of the touchscreen radio it come with and the amp mounting and wiring.
It’s divided in the center so roughly 0.5 cu ft per side. I used 4” ports @ 20” long (1 per side) that I made custom flares for. ZERO port noise and really gets low, considering what the setup is.
@@Rob-ow3bx after subtracting port volume and sub displacement volume I think it’s only about .5 or .6 for the whole side (not per sub). This is the story with underseat boxes, though. So considering all the factors working against it, it’s really impressive!
What’s the box tuned? Currently looking into getting three and curious as to how they do on low notes. I play a bit of everything, but playing with the idea of running an epicenter with them
Juan Eguia Jr. Juan Eguia Jr. the box in this video was tuned to roughly 40hz. I am now running a new box tuned to 38hz with 4” ports and yes it gets down low. I will say that the SKAR RP amp line (2000w and lower) doesn’t support well below 38hz. Ive tried the RP-1200.1 and RP-2000.1 and while they beat hard above 40, they miss hard below 38. I’m now running an SKV2-1500.1 and it is a night and day difference compared to the RP’s. The SKV2 is much cleaner sound and pounds these cheap 8’s down towards 30hz no problem. Don’t expect 4th order 15’s type of lows, but they definitely do the trick for me.
Do you feel like you need more out of the B&O system? I'm also adding subs to mine but I'm doing 2 10s. I was worried that I would lose my mids and highs. We'll see here in 2 weeks. Yours sounds insanely good.

My first attempt was identical to yours; 2 of these 8” on an rp-1200.1 in a sealed box (one big chamber shared by both subs) .. literally the subs would go FULL excursion and there would be barely any bass .. was disappointed. Then, I cut a 3” hole in each side of the box (against each rear passenger door) and secured an 18” long PVC tube from Lowe’s as my port and BOOM it woke up soooo much. Hit pretty hard considering what the simple setup was, but the ports were noisy and I will say generally sub par acoustical feedback. Then, I routed the openings on the box with a nice large radius on each one (where I had cut the ports ) and then stuffed the box with polyfil and the system was totally transformed!

Hi man nice setup where did you got that box I’m looking for one like that
Hey man … made it myself
dope set up where did you get the deck from?
What deck?
Appears to be factory deck.

Question: Why do people put under seat subs and no grill cover to protect against feet when there are PASSENGERS?
Likely due to personal preference. For myself, if someone would’ve put a hole in one of the subs, I would’ve replaced it and it would not have bothered me.
I’ve got a ported box that will fit 4 8”s, the 4 subs, one of the amps in the description, and all the wiring I chose (1/0 gauge wiring). Should that be all I need to get these set up and running well in my 2015 F150?
Most likely need a Line Out Converter (depending on what your factory trim level of your truck is and depending on if your stereo is OEM or aftermarket)
@@srtdoff01 forgot to mention the LC2i I’ve got. And the factory 8” in the platinum
Just a question, why do people lower ohms? Or heighten them? Is heightening them safer for the subs or amp?
Uh yeah @wickedwitt04 nailed it

Awesome...what's the cu ft on the box? I have the same setup but used a sub thump box..I want to port it but not sure on the port size
It’s divided in the center so roughly 0.5 cu ft per side. I used 4” ports @ 20” long (1 per side) that I made custom flares for. ZERO port noise and really gets low, considering what the setup is.
@@srtdoff01 .5 per side ? Or 1 cu per side allowing .5 cu for each sub?
@@srtdoff01 I'm gonna go with the 2" by 12 " port..the subthump box has a brace in ea chamber so it won't allow a 4" port
@@Rob-ow3bx after subtracting port volume and sub displacement volume I think it’s only about .5 or .6 for the whole side (not per sub). This is the story with underseat boxes, though. So considering all the factors working against it, it’s really impressive!
@@Rob-ow3bx ohh ok got ya. Should be OK just make sure the inlet and outlet of the ports are flared!
Very nice

How much did the whole setup cost. Materials, box, subs, install etc?
I’d say around $500
@@srtdoff01 really? Did u do it yourself or did an audio place set it up

Do you feel like you need more out of the B&O system? I'm also adding subs to mine but I'm doing 2 10s. I was worried that I would lose my mids and highs. We'll see here in 2 weeks. Yours sounds insanely good.
Honestly yes .. the B&O is seriously lacking in power. Upgrading the speakers will get some more high range, but it becomes very unbalanced. Good luck man hope it sounds awesome!
@@srtdoff01 I appreciate you chiming in brother. That's unfortunately what I figured. Some songs on level 30 are loud but not as loud as I would think max volume would be. I'll knock out the speakers next year sometime. If I spend any more on this truck this year my Wife is going to have an aneurysm lmao.
@@rudyrivera2964 hahaha I totally get it maxed out on 30, bass a hair under distortion levels and Its like hmmm where’s my treble and midrange at!? These trucks NEED a DSP and amplified mids and highs period.
Did you have to raise the seats in the rear? Looks like a great setup man 👍🏽
Lokeni Siuta thanks! I did not raise the rear seats. I carefully measured the contour of the seat bottoms to maximize box size without having to lift the seats themselves.
@@srtdoff01 right on brother I appreciate the reply
I just bought the same subs because of your review on Skars website and this video. Gonna try and build me the same box too, any tips on building the sub box?
@@logantic nice!! Yeah definitely some tips for ya
-Measure measure measure and take your time!
-I don’t know what tools you have available, but they will make or break your project.
-Always apply wood glue to BOTH sides of mating faces.
-Drill pilot holes for all screws.
-Check your angle of the face (front) of the box; make sure that the sub magnets will clear the top and bottom of the box.
-I made my own ports, port tubes, and port horns but if you don’t feel comfortable doing it just buy them from big ass ports.
-Use available online calculators to help determine what your tuning frequency will be based on volume, port diameter and port length.
-There are a lot of great videos on RUclips to help guide you and offer some great tips and tricks, too.
Good luck!
@@srtdoff01 do u but the 8” port from big ass ports for this box?
Nice man, im looking to getting the same set up 4 vd-8 with the skv2-1500W. I already have a 500.4 amp feeding my door speakers, im kinda worried that its too much for the alternator, any tips or suggestions?
Alejandro Rivas hey thanks! I’m running the skv2-1500w on these VD-8’s now and love it. Do you have an f150 too? What year/motor etc
I have 16 xlt f150 supercrew with the 2.7L. How are you liking the skar stuff it will be my first time purchasing their products
Alejandro Rivas do you know how big the alternator is? So far so good on the Skar stuff. I would say avoid the RP amps and careful on distortion with the VD subs and you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Also make sure that box is tuned right 🤙🏼
@@srtdoff01 I've been doing a little research and it looks like all trucks with the 2.7L have a 200A alternator. I will most likely purchase the one off subthump, or go to my local car audio shop so they can build me one.
Alejandro Rivas ok cool. You should be ok on that alt. I built a new box that matches the rear seat shape with nice radiused corners
was up man i have the same setup put there 4 dual 4 ohm speaker can i run then at 1 ohm to the rp1200.1 ? or is it to much .
Hey bud .. yeah you ‘can’ - I ran the rp1200.1 @ 1 ohm but it became HOT fast. Best bet would be to upgrade to bigger amp, run 0 gauge and wire to 2 or 4 ohm. It will be much more efficient.
Alright cool thanks for the info man. what other should be good for this subs?
@@ismaelvillarreal6083 I’m running mine on an SKV-2500 now ... I went from rp1200 to rp2000 to skv1500 and have finally settled on the skv2500 and it absolutely slams
What factory wire did you use for the remote turn on lead? My King Ranch has the Sony System.
James Oquin Hey James - The LC2i gets its signal from the factory wires that used to go to the factory subwoofer. The LC2i has a “remote out” that is wired to the subwoofer amps remote terminal. Hope that helps!

Thanks. I researched it on RUclips. Very easy to install. My skar 2000.1 stayed on and ran my battery down, oops.
James Oquin oh haha ok cool. actually just built a new box and am replacing my 1200.1 with a 2000.1 which is on the way
srtdoff01 same subs?
Good video bro 👍🏼 hey can you comment a link where to get the box and speaker please I surely will appreciate it man .

I have a kicker L7s 15 and waiting on my skar 1200.1 amp...how u like the amp?
Billy Patterson I like it for what it was. Entry level with a hard kick. It doesn’t hit the lows nearly as well as SKAR‘s SKV series but it may be enough for you. I’ve since gone to an SKV-1500.1 after trying both the RP-1200.1 & RP-2000.1
srtdoff01 Thankyou for the response! I’m currently running a kicker 800.1 and my old kicker sub was 2 ohm..this is a small upgrade..mainly excited for the box. I’ve been impressed with skar products so figured I would try one of their amps..good day..👍🏼✌🏼
Billy Patterson Cool! Good luck with it and have fun!
srtdoff01 heck yes! I will and I’ll upload a video or two of it..subscribe to see..👍🏼
That looks clean and cute but I would be worried as hell that they could get accidentally damaged by passengers feet.
They’re cheap to replace
Do you have any dimensions on the box and did you have to raise the seats?
i just made a wedge shaped template out of cardboard and built to measured dimensions. If you're serious about making one, you'll spend the 2 minutes to measure it out. Seats are not raised.
Hey man any idea where I could get a box like that, I’m trying to do it with my 2020 f150 and every website that has a 4, 8s box for a Ford F-150 is not very trustworthy, any help?
I made mine - particularly because I didn’t like what else was available in the market
How do they hit the lows? I'm debating this setup or the 2 12"s firing down
they crush the lows too
I’m looking at going with the quad SVR-8” setup on the RP2000.1 in my 2018 F-150 Supercrew. With their size I’d imagine that they do pretty good with all music types correct? I know somebody else had asked how they handled the deep bass and you said they hit damn good right?
Very nice setup, and thank you for the video.
@@Wrensspeedshop yes they certainly hit ... after this video, I put the RP2000 on a shelf and went with the SKV2 1500.1 and felt that the quality definitely improved.
How will these compare to two kicker 10s? Why the vd instead of the sdr are they better?
Hey
-not sure how they compare to Kicker 10’s.
-chose VD because they fit best without having to lift the rear seat or having the box sticking out too far in front of the seat.

I have a 3500hd Silverado work truck and was thinking on getting 4 8" subs. My amp does about 2700 watts at 2 ohms. Would these be a good choice or the next step up.
Jorge Serna If you don’t want to change your amp but want to use these subs, you could run 4x DVC 2-ohm subs wired to 4 ohms at the amp. It would be very efficient and not stress your amp. What’s your amp rated at 4 ohms RMS?
@@srtdoff01 the amp is rated 3200@2 and 2000@4 ohms. It's an older Hifonics Colossus XX. I was thinking of getting smaller more efficient amps so I could save space for my enclosure. It's been years since I had a banging system. I stopped around when Audioque became Soundqubed. My car drove into a creek, or was it me. I lost all my gear.
Jorge Serna 2000 @ 4 ohms will be perfect for the VD-8’s. 500rms each in a well designed box will slam. I’m now running a 2000.1 on these VD-8’s in a bigger box tunes to 35hz and it’s shaking my truck apart
@@srtdoff01 I looked into several subs by many manufacturers and these seem to fit the project. I will have some days off soon and hope to get my truck inspection so I can get my plates. The smallest subs I have used was 8 10s around 14 years ago. Well I once used an 8" Rockford fosgate XLC in a bazooka tube. This should be good.
Jorge Serna yes with these 4 VD-8 dual 2 ohms, you’ll be happy
im about to install the same setup into my f150 what wires did you tap into for the lc2i I can't find out which wires im supposed to tap into because I was told that I have to leave the factory amp in place for it to work thanks.
You can use the 4 signal wires that are going to your factory sub.
Ok that’s what I was going to try thanks a ton
One more question are those 4 wires used for signal and power to the lc2i
@@cohenjarreau9132 those 4 are just signal. You need to pull power and ground from a different source
Oh ok
I got almost the same system LC7i audio control and 2 10”s VD D2 shallow and they bump hard every body when they listen ask me if a got 2 12”berry Happy whit SKAR audio💪🏽
Nice!!!
@Paul Revere hey man .. I feel your pain.
So my advice is to either A) add some polyfil and make your own ports or B) add some polyfil and order a couple of these Precision Port 3 Inch Flared Port Tube Kit www.amazon.com/dp/B0002ZPR4W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_Q98NBF5HPE5QS59QQT30
