    Yes but what does it mean you have to do to your knitting when following a pattern when you see WS and RS?

    Not sure this video helped me that much. When I’m doing the same normal garter stitch throughout how do I tell the right side from the wrong side?

  • @JennySnowy
    @JennySnowy 4 года назад +14

    No, it does not help. Understanding what is wrong side is simple, but applying it in a knitting pattern is what people need to figure out.

    I am knitting a pattern that says to cast on 55 stitches and then knit wrong side. how do you do this?

    When pattern states “ending on WS row” does that mean the beginning or end of WS row?

    omg this is frustrating...
    Am I knitting the right side when the right side (aka the wanted patteren) is facing towards me, or away?

    • @miaplaysthepiano
      @miaplaysthepiano 4 года назад +19

      When the pattern is facing towards you with the pointed end of the needle directed to the right, that is the right side. When the back of your work is facing you with the needle directed to the right, that is the wrong side.

      Also, I have a pattern that says: “continue until work measures 17 inches from cast on edge ENDING RIGHT SIDE.” How frustrating to be stopped on the project by this. I don’t know if they mean end before a right side row (so that RS is facing you and you’ll begin the next row with it) or end after (with?) a right side row. 😡 Super confusing to just say “ending RS.”

      evelina mitchell Hey Evelina, generally patterns that designate between right and wrong sides have a pretty pattern on the front and something more plain on the back. These patterns are almost always worked with one row of fancy knitting first on the RS, followed by one row of plain purling on the WS on the back. These pattern/plain rows are always worked together in pairs. Think of it almost like a zipper-you prep the zipper while doing the pretty pattern, but then need the purl side to zip the zipper up. So, if a pattern is telling you to end on RS, that should mean to stop after having finished a purl side. It wouldn’t make sense to end after having completed the RS. Your zipper is half zipped!

    Everyone who does these demonstrations always use a double pointed needle or a circular needle. I'm reading a Lion Brand pattern that wants me to use the basic, single-point "straight" needle on rows that require me to knit on the wrong side. How do I flip or change to knit on the wrong side with a basic, single-point "straight" needle? It appears that the end cap is prohibiting me to do so. But the Lion Brand pattern wants me to use this type of needle; so there must be a special technique on knitting on the wrong side with a "straight" needle.

    What is the point of showing the right and wrong side on the pattern you are learning. Isn't it irrelevant until the work is complete?

    I found a pattern for a washcloth that involves purling and knitting. when it says purl on right side and knit all on the wrong side when I knit I just do the whole row? would that mess up the purled stitches on the right side? I'm sorry if I don't make any sense as I am SUPER confused on this :(

    hello i am kind of new to knitting and i was wondering what is the best needles to use for knitting a blanket and if you have a very easy pattern for a blanket that would be amazing i want to knit blankets for kids at the Boston childrens hospital.

    • @echo795
      @echo795 8 лет назад

      Leah Marsella I personally really like round needles for blankets, it keeps the weight of the blanket more in your lap instead of in one hand. as for baby blankets I have made several of a pattern called a waffle blanket. very simple pattern, suzies-yarnie-stuff.blogspot.com/2012/06/warm-waffles-baby-blanket.html?m=1.
      this also works very fast once you get it down. I usually put stitch holders where my border starts to separate it from the pattern so it's harder to mess it up. I would definitely recommend having a piece of paper with you to mark off which row you just did so you don't get mixed up.

    Hello from Morelia Mexico. As new in crochet, I am trying to do a pattern from LionBrand.com in their pattern they wrote before instructions (WS) and then instructions as usual. What does it mean? thank you so much

    • @studioknit
      @studioknit  8 лет назад

      +Maria Teresa Moreno WS means the Wrong Side of the work. If one side has a lot of purl stitches, it's probably that row. Good luck!!

      Hi, I figure it out when I went on reading. It said that when I finished the work to turn it to the RS right side. So it occured to me that I had to do the work from the WS. thank you so much for everything. When I finished from the WS, I turned it over and it was different. It came out ok. Thanks again.

    Think you can teach us a stitch that would be good for a summer shrug?? Also can you show us all the different abbreviations they use in a book for knitting for someone who has never done any?? My niece came to me with a knitting book but i don't know what they all mean. Thanks for these awesome tutorials!!
