I am not an animator. Never knew such a thing as you have offered here was on youTube. I just happened to discover this tonight. Very good and interesting. Thank you.
Dude...seriously...you're recent tutorials are on an entirely different level! I've referenced your work before, and it's always been helpful; but these last 13 have been amazing! I appreciate all the hard work and effort you're putting into these. I'm learning so much and can't wait for your next videos!
aKiBlu Thanks I appreciate it! I definitely feel like my older tutorials could be so much better if I just made them a little more snappy and concise. I plan to redo many of them.
I've found that a looping walk cycle won't look slidey if you time the tween right. It can take some adjusting to get it right, but I do it all the time. Love this tutorial, by the way.
Yes, true, you can tweak the speed and distance to reduce the slide, but there are two other factors: the distance the foot travels in each frame has to be perfectly even, and often that is hard to predict. Also if you animate the cycle on twos and the tween is on ones, it will always appear to be sliding. But yeah if it's on ones and perfectly spaced then it works.
Thank you so much for this! It really helped me out on an animation I'm trying to do. Your explanation was clear, easy to understand and the examples you gave visually really put across what you were explaining! Thanks again!
This is a good tutorial without uhms and ahms , no sordid background sounds clear voice...very well done; the walking carrot is quaint. Thank you very much.
Thank you! I am a beginner cartoonist and this will really help make my characters look like they're actually walking instead of awkwardly lunging across town XD
I always sort my walk cycles into groups. (i may be a ten year old child learning from stuff on the internet but my animations are just above terrible.) It goes: Right straight, Left at an angle, Right at an angle, Left straight. Easy as that.
Thank you for sharing this free for us! My daughter, 9 yo, loves making animation in Flipaclip from my phone using her fingers. And I was quite astonished by her work. She just needs guidance on how to make it properly. I will use videos in your channel as references. THANK YOU!
Oh wow!! Just Wow!!! You're tutorials are amazing!! I love them so much!! I love the 12 principles of animation and now this video is so thorough, and detailed in the ways of adding some more depth and personality to a character's walk cycles. I'll be rewatching this video a few times for sure! ;) Thanks for making another amazing tutorial! :D
and lemme tell u a secret in 8 and I use blender 2.8 and me dad is buying one of those art tablets that u can plug into your pc and animate for Christmas and I cant WAIIITTT!!!
This tutorial is one of the best. Alan speaks well and gets to the point. He manages to provide a great amount of accurate information in 4 minutes of air time.
Thank you for the tutorial, my mother bought me an iPad to draw and animate. But after some time i stoped using it because i didn’t no how and what to do, but i think I’m getting back on track. I hope that it keeps like this!
Love and appreciate the fact that you explain so SO well of why contact pose is called a contact pose and passing pose as a passing pose. My professors just straight up say now let’s do contact passing up down etc poses without explaining what they mean or what they are. It’s not very motivating not knowing what they mean. Not knowing the real meaning makes me feel rushed. Like either just go with the flow and do it without completely understand the concepts of why we need those poses or fail. Great explanation. Such a life savor.
I'm working on an animation this helped thank you. You're the best mentor yet, in my opinion, your way better than draw with Jazza, I wish my channel wasn't so small so I can show everyone what I can do
i barely downloaded toon boom the other night, bought my first digital graphic tablet, and all i made was a ball bouncing across the cress for 3 seconds...like...watching this is intimidating to me. hopefully ill be bale to learn something..
I’m a beginner so may I ask at 1:27, how do you do that. Also in everyday animation how is it possible to create a bigger scene but then move the camera around
If your those type of people who still can't make any of the video out, just copy me. observe and copy the carrot walking in the beginning at speed 0.25
hhhhhhh i was using this video to make a walk cycle for a music video I was working on, and I was adding like details and clothes and stuff and the program crASHES i lost all my work
thanks, as a 3d animator i can animate many things but a walk cycle oddly enough, is the hardest thing for me. This actually gave me a few tips i didn't know yet, and thanks for that!
Honestly thank you so much for making this, ive been having trouble with walk cycles for a while (im a beginning animator) and this video is helping me so much!!
Wow this is so easy :D
*Now lets to watch it 20 more times-*
Good for you because it’s good to analyze the video and take your time with practicing :D
Exactly 🤣
Ye let's watch it together and never know how to do it :D

Dude i'm thinking exactly the same ^^, but yea animating truy is something you need to practice again and again
Les jeremyades du lascar Lol its easy once you try simple animating then go on to hard animating to get better. I'm already halfway good at it.
Halfway good ?! i would love to see that :D.
Did you upload stuff on the internet ?
I just released my first animation :D, if i could have your opinion on it it would be awesome :)
I agree, if you check on my newest vid on my RUclips channel, the walking has gone terribly wrong.
