This song is genuinely one of the gems of the 90s and it was written by Hope herself, who pretty much had stopped going to school at age 13 and just stayed at home listening to records until she started a band with her best friend. They even played a couple gigs with Sonic Youth before she joined Opal (ended up being renamed Mazzy Star). It all started because her friend gave a demo tape of their band to David Roback (lead guitar), and Opal's lead singer randomly left the band while they were touring with The Jesus and Mary Chain... When she's shaking Conan's hand she looks at him like he just arrived from another planet. It seems like she's still in the song and he might as well have materialized right next to her.
Back then she was not a peoples person, very shy and uncomfortable with the fame that came with being a famous artist. She probably felt Conan was invading her personal space.
She definitely comes across as shy and socially awkward...but she was just possibly really overwhelmed and caught up in the moment. At least back in this era...I mean this was like their first time on national television.
I started listening to a Mazzy Star song, "Into Dust" a lot in recent months, only recently listened to another song by her, and I just presumed that she was relatively current music, and a few days ago, I saw a live performance from 1994. @@daniluchison lol there probably wont be a last man, we're all getting wiped out when the next big disaster comes. Like the dinosaurs, and all the species before them, our matter will be just be recycled into either the next creatures or when the sun explodes, wherever the matter travels to.
Nothing to say. Absolutely perfect
Actually listened to a Hope Sandoval album before I heard her with Mazzy Star and just loved it.That was about 18 years ago. Still listen to this day. Tremendous artist with such an amazingly beautiful voice. Truly underrated.
in the 90's my girlfriend left me and this song was on MTV for days...
She is now my wife...
that's very cute
You married Mtv?
You married a song?
rdrserg 👍😌😌🌷
Mazzy star is your wife?
Rest in peace, Dave Roback. I enjoyed so many of your musical projects and you really made a wave with your art. Wish you were still here
This song gives me goosebumps. Always has.
Maybe air conditioner on to long?
When I was little my mom would always play this song and sing 💗
A love i once had, but gone a long time ago. A last look back at the harbor gate. A daydream of what could have been. Alone, forever alone, in the arms of second best...........
holy shit this is my first time hearing this i feel so fortunate
the first time i heard this song was a few years ago in the car with my mom. it was a late night drive. pitch black sky, windows rolled down, the cold wind blowing heavy. it’s an experience i’ll never forget and i reserve this song especially for my late night drives with her. SUCH a magical song!!!
welcome, enjoy
When she's shaking Conan's hand she looks at him like he just arrived from another planet. It seems like she's still in the song and he might as well have materialized right next to her.
Brax1982 I noticed that too.
He's also like 2 entire feet taller than her.
@@googleislame Well... Hope Sandoval is 1.52 m and Conan 1.93 :O
the love i have for this song is immeasurable
I’m so glad this is being recommended to me ❤
I started listening to a Mazzy Star song, "Into Dust" a lot in recent months, only recently listened to another song by her, and I just presumed that she was relatively current music, and a few days ago, I saw a live performance from 1994. I was shocked! How did I not hear this in this 90s? Fair enough, I'm in Ireland but even so, I should have heard this.Love it. Words can't do it justice.
Mazzy Star was actually the band name. The lead singer was Hope Sandoval.
She is one of the strangest singers ever...like someone out of the 60's. And this song still gets airplay here in So. Cal.
+Bob Doubter Thats cuz it is special, different. Sublime indeed-
i kept thinking the same thing, her presence was so distant
Distant but endearing in a haunted sort of way.
Bob Doubter
So true...she seems to be from another time! The 90's and 60's were quite alike in many ways
