I was 22 years old when this song came out. I can tell you exactly what I was doing the first time I heard it, I can picture that moment in my head perfectly. I had to buy the CD at least 4-5 times because friends kept 'borrowing' it. It was played at my wedding. Ive heard it on movies and TV shows like Starship Troopers, Angus, AHS, True Blood, and many others. If I said Ive listened to this song at least a thousand times, I still think I would be short on the count. I have listened to cover after cover after cover, and always been disappointed. I never thought anyone on earth could match the haunting way that Hope Sandoval brought this song to life. This cover had tears in my eyes within the first 15 seconds or so that I listened to it. I cannot believe that you actually brought the same emotions to me that Hope could. You are absolutely amazing, and I mean that. Those 2 on the guitars are incredible as well. This was so dam perfect. I wish I could have seen Mazzy Star do it live 1 time, but I would settle for you guys playing it, and that is saying quite a bit when its my absolute favorite song ever.

Let's face it, RUclips cover bands are a dime a dozen. A rare few are able to nail it. Once or twice in lifetime, the stars align, and you get the perfect storm of talent. I can honestly say that this cover sounds BETTER than the original. The mixing, the production, and her voice are all exceptional. This cover is probably the best I've ever seen.

What a voice, if you see her tell her there is a guy in Texas that lives her. Just sing to me. Love the band too. The movie was a great choice for this song
And that's why Mazzy Star's original version was so cool, that imagery, whether on the music video version or live is the polar opposite of what this imagery is, which does not take away the beauty of "her eyes", but don't get it twisted. Whenever I listen to great music, the color of a female singer's eyes is not what I'm listening to.
@@skineyemin4276 a well written piece and its interpretation can or cannot be helped by the look of the singer, there isn't a coded rule for this - although the "physique du rôle" concept is well known. Personally I'm a man and a poet. As a man I like beautiful girls. As a poet I totally agree with Oscar Wilde: beauty is superior to intelligence (or skills in this case), in that it doesn't need explanation to be understood. So those fascinating eyes, for me, are and will always be part of the beauty of this song in this interpretation. Just like the delicacy of the original singer. That said... the first time I heard this song, it was audio only for me, and it was love from the first second.

That was my thought about this song, it's so good you shouldn't rearrange it too much, a cover's touch must be present somehow, but not too much.
Yeah, ok, except there was no one playing a tambourine... Nor was there anyone playing the piano... So... Seems to me like they just had 1/2 the instruments playing from a speaker, and her voice seemed more auto tuned, than real... It was fine to listen to, but I'll pass on giving it any real kudos.

Damn. I'm watching this again after 8 months and I love how she nailed all the aspects from Hope's performances that made her music and videos great. A lot went into this that makes it such a perfect cover while still allowing some of your style to shine through but not changing the style and feeling of the original. Really appreciate your efforts.

It's a great cover, but Hope Sandoval has a sadness to her voice that I don't think you can replicate.
This is a really beautiful version of the Mazzy Star song. The band are great musicians and nail the backing. What I especially like the lead singer does not try to 'be' or copy Hope Sandoval but brings herself to the party, and does so beautifully. Lovely voice. 100 thumbs up :)

Agreed, so many covers miss Hope's melancholy and depth of emotion in their interpretation and this is the closest to capturing some of that emotion I've heard. Love the slide guitar work here as well.

Holy Crap! I was so excited when I saw you did this song! I couldn't get to your page fast enough. This is one of my all-time favorite songs, so sensual and romantic. Every time I hear it, I am transported back to the Oregon coast, driving down Highway 101 with this tape in the tape deck (soundtrack to Mad Love). Great memories. Do I need to explain to the younger viewers out there what a tape deck is? Instruments were spot on, your voice was perfect.

@@jornjanssen90 it's a rare talent that can sing in a flat tone which also gives a soft sound. Ertha Kitt,Astrid Gilberto and a French singer whose name I don't recall could also do this. Sharp tone, which also gives brightness, is the way instruments are tuned and all singers compliment this. Hope Sandoval CONTRASTS her bands' sound without sounding off key.

This song haunts me from some warm, dark place and sexy but complicated Hope Sandoval always delivered. As special as this song is to many, Annalise blooms where others whither. My compliments to the band. You guys managed to capture all that was steamy, slow and sultry. And I remain haunted, spellbound on every nuance you deliver. Fucking rocks me!
Yep. This may have been posted two years ago but I have to comment. I have found two versions of this song that I truly love. The original and this one. Just enough subtle differences such as the personal intonations on the end of the verses. Inflections that show the singer is really feeling the song.
