her voice in Fade Into You still brings me to tears with what it makes me feel, I don't even associate it with any specific memory but her voice in that song just hits me so hard every time I hear it; it played the other day and I was so moved once again
Agreed 👍.
I bet you that subconsciously, it somehow is associated to a memory. Thats how it was for me. Nostalgia for sure.
One of my favorite songs of all time. Never get tired of hearing it.
She has the voice of an angel
Go listen to “Cry, cry” now that one will get a few to tear up
I fell in love with Hope Sandoval the moment I heard this song. Over 30 years later and divorced, I use this song on ny date night playlist. It can be sad and haunting, but there has always been a sensual side to it for me as well.
Easy to see why this atmospheric and mesmerizing song was used so much on film and TV soundtracks. It hooked me immediately when I first heard this on the radio, way back then. They had a wonderful sound, and Sandoval's voice elevates it to a heavenly level.
Sad to hear of Roeback's early passing. R.I.P.
He leaves behind his beautiful music.
I saw Mazzy Star live in the early 90s opening for the Cocteau Twins in Boston. It was a great show. I have always lovingly described their genre as country music for vampires.
Wow! Those 2 women in the same show… swoon.
I saw Cocteau Twins with Dead Can Dance in ‘94 in a small venue though !
The 90s had depth, soul and romance. Today, you dont ever hear of such things.
Then you’re not listening.
I agree 👍
True art is hard to find these days, especially in music

While I realize that people have been saying that very thing about their own generation's music in contrast to that of the next generation's since time immemorial...
...I still can't help but agree with you 100%.
It’s a beautiful song. Timeless, takes me back to early high school years where the only pressure in life was tests, sports and girls. And to be honest I didn’t stress tests. Before life’s real stresses, the last great generation. Life before social media, when passing a note was way more nerve wracking than sending a text. Where butterflies would consume your stomach thinking about calling a girl. The most innocent yet beautiful crazy years of my life.
My brother is a great slide guitar player, so we always used to play this song when we had gigs together. I've loved it since it came out.
The more I watch your channel the more I realize how old I'm getting. A lot of my favorite musicians are gone.
"Fade into you" represents to me when you love somebody so much that you reveal everything about yourself to them, all your secrets and interests and hidden talents, just all of you.. and then they move on not even realizing how much of you they are taking with them. It's not just sad to see them go, it's sad to see them take the best parts of you to improve their future selves while all you got from them was crippling depression.
You've effectively faded into them. The bright light inside you has dimmed and their light has become brighter. It's so sad when it happens to you.
Everything David Roback touched, turned to gold. Platinum in combination with Hope Sandoval. 💔
6:03 my favourite inclusion of Fade into You into a movie…is Starship Troopers.
It’s buried incredibly deep into the mix, during a punch up between the infantrymen and officers at the space station.
Baffling.
I will always connect the song with the movie Angus when he had his first dance with Ariana Richards ( Lexi from Jurassic Park ) 1995
That was a great but underrated movie in 1995
I’m not that generation ( 74 years) Been a long time since I heard anything that I want to listen to to and listen again. Her voice is hauntingly beautiful and the lyrics wonderful … so happy to have come across this on utube
Admit it you liked or more likely loved this song just like you loved the person it reminds you of ❤
A song that only grows more haunting & powerful with time. A perfect jewel of a song that is free of unnecessary bulls**t. A song & voice to be discovered & treasured over & over.
❤🎉😊
I remember when the only kid in our friend group ever able to affort CD's got this one & it was "borrowed" by all of us, until it came full circle & found its permanent home back in my collection, as I just couldn't get enough of it. It was the theme song to "my so called 90's life" & I eventually named my daughter after her, so yeah, I'd say it had an impact.
That's freaking awesome. I remember seeing my so called life replayed on mtv till I was sick of it. I mean they used that as filler for like 5 years. Great show though, sucks it only got 1 season
I was actually introduced to Mazzy Star by a high school friend I used to skateboard with. He put Blue Flower on one day & I've been a fan ever since. As a guitar player I think Roback is underappreciated, every note is just the right thing for the song at hand, he's a perfect example of the "less is more" approach and how effective it can be. Then there's Hope, and I don't think anything more needs to be said when it comes to her as a singer and a lyricist. Phenomenal.
Just a ethereal haunting song . Her angel face doesnt hurt
The best way to describe the sound and feel of Mazzy Star is if you’ve ever been in serious pain and finally have surgery to fix the problem. After years of pain there’s relief on the horizon and you wake up in a (medically) drug induced haze but it’s great because you don’t feel any pain, anxiety, or concern. You just float along and go with it. Mazzy Star is like that haze: just listen and enjoy the feeling knowing everything will be alright.
Saw Mazzy Star at Club Lingerie in 1991. I like Hope’s solo stuff as well. RIP David
I still haven't gotten over my crush on Hope Sandoval
She’s some kinda gorgeous… and a voice to match
You aren’t the only one
yeah, none of us have
You think you will? You fool😊
When I heard the lyrics to this song, it made me feel like it was talking about me and the issues I have with connecting to people. I felt like I knew exactly what the lyrics were about. I think it can be portrayed in a romantic way as well.
I don’t care what it’s about. It’s a great tune.
This is the first song I ever sang with a band, in 1990…I went on to be in bands for 20 years. Thanks Mazzy Star
I first heard the song on the Angus soundtrack - one of the greatest soundtracks and movies to come out of the 90's.
Same here!! I was instantly hooked and I quickly sought to download it. I crank it every time I hear it.
That song will always make me think of my lost love. We were both big 90s junkies seeing as how we grew up in the era. We both loved this song. May she rest in peace....
If you haven’t heard Among my Swan, do yourself a favor and go stream that album after this video.
My heart broke when I heard that Dave Roback passed away.
She broke my hart and mended it at the same time. First love as a hopeful teenager..
God I love this song. So smooth, relaxing and beautiful. Her voice takes it over the top.
Gorgeous song from an amazing band. Loved the video! ❤
Totally takes me back to a time in my life long past whenever I hear Fade into You
Beautiful song and deserves all the love
Her voice and lyrics make the song uniquely beautiful, present and profoundly human!
This is the song my ex's band was covering as I arrived late to our last backyard show of that summer before everyone left for school. We knew things were coming to an end for us, and she broke up with me after that night. Hard listen, considering I last heard it sung in her voice.
I've heard this song before but i never in my wildest dreams thought this song would be from the 1990s .....wow.... i thought this song was from the early 2010s since its sound really fits the decade....... i thought this song was like a decade old and that's it or less
Love Them So Much, I Hope she Comes back on tour :)
I had no idea that this song is used in TV and film so often. I don't recall having heard it in anything. I think I'd remember if I had though, because this is one of the first songs I would point to that would be great in a scene, given the appropriate context.
...I guess I wasn't the only one to think of that, huh!?
I still love this song to this day
One of the best songs ever created. Her voice is so beautiful and unique.❤
Very informative information I never knew Great Job
I saw her perform this at shoreline Amphitheatre in mt view ca - the video is still on RUclips
So Tonight That I Might See is timeless & amazing in its entirety ❤!
It was on the My So Called Life soundtrack and that's how I discovered Mazzy Star. That was a great soundtrack.
One of my most FAVORITE songs ever!!! ❤❤❤❤
I haven't heard this song in 20+ years. Go for it Angus!
Rip dave roback
Fade into you what it is to you and that's that.
I wish David was still bere😢
@flickerstick does one of the best covers of Fade Into You. Well worth checking out.
Do some captain beefheart videos
I love this song so much!! This is our song my wife and I.
God damn I fell in love with Hope... such a goddess. X
Well there it is, supposedly a quote from the songwriters providing insight about how the universe works in mysterious ways. :)
Also heard in….
Starship Troopers
Angus
I have this on cassette
for me, the song won't fade...it would turn immortal
If you ever wanna have a good time, watch Midnight Cowboy muted with So Tonight That I Might See playing instead...whilst tripping.
Ha! Just don't watch Evil Dead while tripping. That was an awful mistake my housemate & I did one night. Frightening, especially when the other housemates came home from clubbing.
Scared the sh*t out of us!! 😱🥴
@@normturner4849 That sounds awful! Haha. Another good one to watch with the sound off and music up is the original Clash of the Titans.
I want that song played at my funeral…
I found this song's inclusion on Starship Troopers during a fight scene bemusing.
Seeing CGBG in the video, makes me wonder if you have done a video on Soul Coughing?
CBGB?
I always just thought it was about shy people trying to get it on.
ughhhh i love mazzy star great music too me!
Into Dust was the hook for me. Magical, powerful songwriting.
She's my baby is my favorite Mazzy song
I always thought of this song in present tense
A LOVE IT A LOT A BEAUTIFUL PEACE OF MUSIC A HAUNTING BEAUTIFUL SONG AND GREAT SONG RIGHTING LOVE HOPE SANDOVAL VOICE ❤ 😂 🎉 😢 😮 😊 😊 ! .
I can't understand why he wasn't into Hope, she was and is a nice catch!
I always liked her stuff and it still holds up strong today! She was just ahead of her time? Just in the wrong era like a lot of people! But with the right people around her back then she could've and should've got the bigger chance to stand out if she wanted it! But she always seemed like she didn't like the spot light! Idk I just had a smoke break and maybe trying to sound like I know what im talking about! 😂
Maze Star were great. My only complaint is that they only painted in one color
I dont want to know what artists think about their songs,my interpretation is always better.
I remember listening to IsabellaBrave sing that song karaoke on here a long time ago
Beautiful song
"Fade Into You" is one of the most important, haunting, ethereal, and mesmerizing songs I have ever heard. It burrowed into my Soul when I was younger and will never leave me. 🥀
Have you ever done a episode on the band ORGY ? I think they might have a interesting history, seems something happened with the two guitar players the main writers I assume and the singer maybe I'm wrong just what it feels like but if you did the work I'm sure you could clarify and give us the scoop .
Hope was an amazing songwriter and performer. My favorite is look on down from the bridge
That's a good one
Personally, I think "Into Dust" is a more emotionally stirring song. IMHO
Even to this day, I still find Hope Sandoval's voice amazing.
And of course Fade Into You was a popular middle/high school couples dance song in the mid to late 90's
It was early 90s
Back in the day when you only had to fund all your ep's, singles and albums whilst living on the road, in a truck, doing gigs, clubs and events with nothing to show for it other than the music. The record company and band would then reinvest 100-300k for an entry level video hoping to make it big on music TV channels 📺
You've also got the point when band members realise they, to be super or mega stars ⭐ are totally at the mercy of the public, cameras, their fan base and record company 24-7 🤦♂️
Not everyone wants to sell their soul 👻
Band members quickly run out of funds during the first 2-4years and being unable to raise millions for an epic music video 😔, they fade, fade into you 🤗
How resilient, determined and dedicated a person is relative in all our lives, we suddenly when younger have opportunities to become husbands, wives and parents, it's kinda of changes a person's focus not mention life on the road and doing certain shows is nog a happily life repeating the same songs every night for months on end +t requiring Hollywood actor style skills to give electric performances and interviews day in day out 😩
It's a great song
"Shame you never knew" is present tense??? I think not.
Such a nice song
Flowers in December
Hmm that's exactly what i thought it was about.
*"go for it Angus"*
Never my favorite Mazzy Star song, that would be Flowers in December. Not even my favorite from So Tonight That I Might See, that probably be Bells Ring.
Am i crazy or does fade into you sound a lot like that song by lemmy aint no jice guy after all? Let me know
That whole album is grrat her voice elis magical into dust is another great track of that album
She was beautiful
Sounds kinda like the Wallflowers.
9/27/1997
She hangs broccoli.
That song has a deep place for me. Sorry to be a bit blunt it was playing when I lost my virginity and I still think to that moment when it comes on. It’s a timeless treasure and one to never grow old or be forgotten.
As i go to hit the like button i notice it's at 777 i almost dont wanna be 778. LOL I'll do it anyway.
She was so cute.
...proceeds to NOT talk about why it's misunderstood. LOL. I'll just say when you "live it", then you understand.
Any chance on videos about 90s favorites Live or Bush? Almost every 90s playlist overlooks them but they were the soundtrack to my teens.
Very interesting information, but I really disliked the generic stock video footage as filler. Yuck!
I always assumed it was about heroin 🤷♂😆
Cowboy Junkies is just one of the coolest names in my opinion!
Sounds like the artists missed the point of their own song.
Already recycling almost identical videos
