    As it is with creating pleasing guitar tones in a studio by micing traditional amps, dialing in ANY modeler is a bit of an art. I wasn't terribly impressed with the tones I've heard here either... but I've also seen other demos of this device, and the tones were quite good (Pete Thorn comes to mind). That tells me that like so many other things in life, it's garbage in/garbage out...

      My impression is that the TMP is designed for gigging musicians (especially in cover bands that cover many bands/styles). It's purpose-built to go from preset to preset seamlessly (the preset spillover is super slick) through a long setlist... and you can have multiple set lists in there. The software and interface is perfectly set up for that application. I can see how it might be a bit clunky in other applications, but all those things can be fixed in firmware updates.

    I’d love you to do the same video with a HX stomp, straight out the box with their presets. I’ve had both pedals and the HX stomp presets are unusable. I know you’re obviously hung up on how much this pedal is but you should have sat down for 20 minutes and made your own preset to see what the pedal has to offer. It may be a bit overpriced for what it is but the workflow is so intuitive once you get working on it. The high gain sounds may not be as good as other pedals but in my opinion the clean and crunch fender sounds are the best out there.
    Just because it nearly costs more than your car doesn’t mean it’s overpriced, it just means you have a crappy car 😂

      @@princewarior2554The art of dialing in a good tone on a modeler is no different than the art of dialing in a good tone when recording. It's a little bit about the EQ settings and pedals, but mostly about the cab sim, speaker model, mic and mic placement. Those factors can make or break the tone, and honestly, most of these types of units have terrible factory presets, lol. You really have to dig in and either make your own preset, or tweak the shit out of an existing preset. Having said that, I don't ever see myself spending that kind of money on the Fender Tone Master Pro. Not when you can get a Quad Cortex for the same amount of money. The QC will definitely be supported for a long time. I don't trust Fender to support this product long term, especially if it flops.

    This product was not rushed. There are enough amps and effects to use this at home to practice with and to gig with. Getting the customer to do updates is a brilliant business move. I am happy with the TMP. I know the updates will make it better. The accompanying FR-12 and FR-10 cabs work well with the TMP. The bass amps are coming out in the next update as has been advertised. The design is brilliant and the execution is brilliant. No company can sit and wait a year to release a product. They have already had 4 years of R&D. The successful Tone Master amps were a strong indication that the TMP was coming. You have to sell stuff to have a business. Pete Thorn demos this product the way it should be done. Complaining about presets in version 1 software is childish. Please grow up. Here is a grown up's review.

    "All of these comparison videos have been created using the same method. They are sending the amp models into the same 3rd party IR and this is a totally valid test.We (Fender) have already stated that (for now) this will yield less authentic results than using our factory IRs. We are already working on (and were long before these videos were posted) implementing more capabilities into our 3rd party IR block that will enable the desired results. This will also have a positive outcome when using external IRs and/or a SS power amp driving a real cabinet.Today (12/3) is literally the 2nd month post-launch for TM Pro. We have a long roadmap of updates planned that include not only new features and models but also tweaks to current features that were in the product on launch day.We (Fender) really appreciate the engagement and feedback we’ve gotten thus far and are excited to implement some of the suggestions. The best part about all products like this is the ability for continuous improvement that enhances the playing experience on all platforms. We’re excited to have you all be a part of that process.Jason S. - Product Director, Fender Amps"

    This review or whatever its meant to be is so inaccurate and just down right wrong .
    Firstly as with the Helix the presets are average across the board! Secondly you only demonstrated it with drop D /C grunge playing and a few legato licks ! Absolutely zero clean tones on display here ! that actually show off the affects and how easy it is to actually dial a great sound into this unit that sounds great . Very poor and dissapointing .
    I will agree that this in terms of the software will be and needs some things improving, and they have already done two updates! But then you would not know that as your totally biased too using real amps etc etc.
    You did not even know that Headrush made bigger units !! and what the presets are like in the Helix .
    What qualifies you to diss this product what ?
    Another self professed expert, not experienced enough on any level to accurately review this unit .
    I own a Helix and just purchased this Tone Pro we are using them in th theatre touring band I work in with a top PA and in ears, and it sounds incredible.
    I use it for my Tele/Strat, mandolin, Pedal Steel and a Martin D28 acoustic and it handles every one brilliantly.
    I'm a Pro of over 50 Years experience at a high level so I'm not easily pleased .I've owned all kind of amps, including a brand new Mesa Boogie Mk11 B I brought in the UK in1983 and since then virtually everything, else including the Kemper Floor and most Boss pedals.
    It's not fair to Diss modeling pedals and then say there nowhere near as good as real amps !!! Whats the point !! Use real amps then, end of.😮
    Modeling pedals are aimed at players wanting easier to carry portable quality sounds direct to PA at all levels .
    But then you missed that obvious point too.
    All in all a very poor demo.
    And before you say we'll don't come to my channel ! I'll point out that you make these videos for folk like me that are looking to you tube to see reviews that are fair and varied not biased and not demoed correctly ..

    One thing that seems to be the theme throughout the video that seems to differentiate people who like amp sims and who don't.
    You keep talking about how now authetntic they are as if the authenticity was the defining factor whether something sounds good.
    You could emulate vety authentically a crap tone, and you could have an absolutely amazing tone that dies not authentically replicate what it was inspired with/based on at all.
    Now, the above is not a comment on the unit itself. I have no idea whether it sounds good or not IRL. On recordings it just sounds as "good" as any other real amp or or modern modeller, cause it's mainly the matter of mixing and mastering whether something sounds good in a recording. Question is how much more effort it will require to make this unit sound good in a mix compared to real amps. And of course there's the question of how good it sounds IRL. I do not have answers to that at all.
    I just wanted to comment on this observation I had how people disliking modellers keep talking about their authenticity or a lack thereof, where it's very rare to hear anything about it from the enthusiasts, they will rather focus on expressing whether they just like the tone as it is and start comparing different units in terms of how hard or easy it is to make them sit well in a mix, etc.
    Just food for thought.

If I did get one probably go with a Quad Cortex (or a fractal but the fractal has too many options and deep diving). The Tone Master Pro will out do line 6 with updates and it's easier to use.

In these discussions the two main Fender Developers of this unit are adamant that Fender sees this as a big market going forward and are committed to it now with a product release plan already in place for the next several years in the future at least (although they are very tight lipped about any of that future stuff.)

    Not attempting to shit on your video, but I feel like you didn't buy a headrush, fractal, or line 6 unit when they launched... but I know like an idiot I did, and guess what? They all sucked, the presets sucked, the stock cabinets sucked and it took months and, in some cases, years for each company to fix their problems and make the units really good out of the Box. I agree the fenders actual hardware and build quality is really well done and premium feeling but since having owned the unit for 6 months I can say they must have rushed the software side of things, they just fixed the marshal and evh amp models and there is still a huge glaring issue with the way IRs are loaded and the impedance curve etc.
    Like with the cheaper units if you provide good impulse responses and dial around for a while, you can get some sick tones.... I wish this unit could load Vst's so I could run native instruments or bias fx plug-ins or ANY for that matter...

    Look at the comparison between Kemper, Headrush, Helix, Quad Cortex and Fender Tonemaster Pro from Andertons; the speed comparison from 1:38:30 to 1:45:55 shows that the Tonemaster is everytime in the top of the line. I´m since 2012 Kemper user, but now I´m changing to the Tonemaster because of the top UI (including Song-List and Setlist- a very useful feature!). Yes, you have to midify the presets with Rock amps, but this was the same at Kemper an Quad Cortex, i tested before. And it is very important to use the right activ-Box with the Modeler/Profiler. Fender has developed the Tonemaster 1x12 or 1x10 Cab for the Tonemaster Pro and this is sounding very very good together. And the box has a very deep active EQ. Keep on rocking!

    People are so spoiled these days, they don’t have to carry 17 thousand pounds of gear around to get all those tones, which are good enough you could easily make a living if you can play… No No No, my $78,000 vintage tubes sound much much better…. Give me a break, they actually don’t… I like it, the user interface seems to be just about right for a piece of gear like this, definitely leaps over the AxeFX and other ridiculously complicated boxes for those who don’t have a full time crew working on the gear…

    Just a reminder that presets are going to suck, but there are always different reasons for that. With the HX Stomp the presets are ass but you can hear the quality in the amps and effects, which is the thing that makes you explore the UI and make better patches and I don’t hear that with the TMP (and other modelers like the head rush). Nothing I’ve heard really makes me want to explore and make something better in the way I would a HX stomp or would like to do with a FM9 or a QC.

    I'll let you all in to a secret... All modelers are just a computer in a nice case. There are no 'real' amps or pedals in them. It is all an algorithm. You could put any algo from any modeler into any other and it will sound identical. (see Mooer). The same way your computer sounds no better than any other computer. What is different is the processing power and the interface. Faster CPUs mean it can do more things at once and have advanced routing.
    An Ampero is all you need. It ticks all the boxes and is cheaper. It has a great touch interface. Sound doesn't care who owns the brand. Calling a sim by an official name means nothing. Is it easy to use? Does it sound like what it claims to emulate? That is all you need to know.

  • @rickbelden2319
    @rickbelden2319 8 месяцев назад

    It seems this was a terrible money grab attempt by fender to wade into the modeler market. Problem is that now they have cheapened their brand. Fender amps are legendary, this is not. Especially with a 1700.00 price tag. Think of Marshall or Mesa doing this. They won’t because it would cheapen their reputation of being a legendary amp maker.

  • @cortmiller

    This seems like a weird half baked review. The user interface is actually the most intuitive of any modeler I have seen plus everything you were playing straight out of the generic stock presets sounded pretty good. I feel like you just sat down for 10seconds and I feel you were already gonna say it’s crap before you even sat down. And at the end you say how intuitive it is and in the same breath that the UI is crap. It’s totally drag and drop? Super easy visual display

    • @sixstringtv1
      @sixstringtv1  9 месяцев назад +1

      The hardware part is definitely killer. Like the fact that you actually see what the individual knobs do unlike on a quad cortex which just has little green LEDs.
      The software I don't love, and the sounds are not worth 2 grand. I can get those tones with Bias FX for 80 bucks

  • @TAM-gz5tc

    I my experience fender do not have the tech skills to build great modeling systems. Roland do. I own 10 modeling amps from boss,roland,vox. All are great. Fender make good tone master amps but lack facilities you need like effects loops, additional speaker out jacks. Fender make good solid state and valve amps but all are not equal.

  • @mrfuzztone
    @mrfuzztone 8 месяцев назад +2

    Guess it depends on what sounds you like. Fender Tone Master amps get good reviews for their Fender sounds. Could be great for people that like Princeton and Deluxe Reverbs and Bassman amps. A lot of Fender sounds in one pedal. Could use good 50's tweed amp models. I really like my Swart STR-Tweed and Tungsten amps.
    People don't like the price because they can't afford it. I understand that. I have several vintage Martin guitars that cost me way more than $2K. But I don't have a $50K 1920''s 00-45. I would like to have one. But I won't complain about the price.
    I bought a Universal Audio OX a long time ago. All kinds of people complaining about its price. Guess what? It sounds fantastic with real tube amp heads.
    I have a Fender Tone Master Pro, Line 6 Helix LT and Kemper Stage. I am lucky. I get to try the best of each of them.
    Fender is going to be updating the Tone Master Pro. It has enough processing power and knobs for them to do a lot with it.

    • @sixstringtv1
      @sixstringtv1  8 месяцев назад

      Yeah, the UA Ox is good.
      If Fender now came along and sold a far inferior, unfinished version of the UA ox for MORE money, that would suck.
      Especially if it achieved results you could get out of an $80 plugin.

    • @mrfuzztone
      @mrfuzztone 8 месяцев назад +2

      A lot will depend on whether Fender invested enough in the processing power for the Tone Master Pro. If they did, then they have a platform that can evolve into something that might satisfy you one day. It does have decent knobs and buttons to go with a strong processor. I think we should know more about this when the 2024 NAMM show happens. A lot of people these days don't know what it takes to build modeling software and a good UI. It really is quite a technology feat that is taken for granted. I would guess most people don't know what C++ is. There is a perception that software is easy to make and should be cheap or free.

    Anyone who has actually played this one knows how much better , out of the box, its sounds than helix or headrush, fractal or QC. Its still a digital board with some of the ongoing processed sound on especially higher gain models. But it is in the right direction. You should be able to use it just like you would an amp or pedal which this strives to do. The goal is to be able to use it through any amp or frfr and not spend hours trying to get the shrill our of it. This is closer to that benchmark

    After watching the video, I totally get what kaylen is saying. I own a Fender Mustang GTX 100 and it's a decent gigging modelling amp but id definitely say its high gain sounds are alright but not completely ideal for extended range tones. From what I've heard here in this demo and some others it seems like they have either ported over some amp models or atleast stuck very close to the models on the mustang series of amps as I hear the same slightly muddy or strange top end that I found in my amp when I first got it a few years ago. Other than maybe the parallel processing options and the I/O I wouldn't say the Tone Master Pro is that great out of the box for the price compared to the GTX 100 and would probs need some tweaking with global eq settings and the like. Either way it's nice hearing some alternate opinions on the product other than purely positives. Great video as always! Keep it up!!

    At a significantly lower price point (i.e. without the $700 premium for the Fender brand name) this might have been an interesting choice for those looking to get into the digital modeling world. But at the price they’re asking, it feels more like a product that we will see the major retailers blowing out for 50% off in about two years. Perhaps a “wait and see” approach would be the best option if you’re considering buying this unit. Fender has a habit of quickly abandoning product lines that aren’t immediate hits in the marketplace. Remember the Mustang Amps/Fender Fuse software? The Bassbreaker amps? All those solid state amps of the 80’s. No, I mean the 90’s, no wait, the 2000’s…..etc.

      When they released the Bassman bass amps in the 00s I instantly knew they were a bad idea.
      The original Bassman is best known for use as a guitar amp, so it’s bad marketing in two ways. Bass players might think it’s a guitar amp, and guitar players will just get confused because they’re guitar players. They also sounded like shit and had bad build quality. May as well have gotten a Peavey. TKO. They sounded like shit, too, but at the time Peavey stuff was still rock-solid.

    • @phel21
      @phel21 8 месяцев назад

      There is no reason why Fender should be able to charge a premium for their name. Their beancounters prevent the use of decent quality components. As an example just look at their hotrod and reissue amps that are built using cheap components (condensers in particular) cutting the amps lifetime to 1/3 of what it should be. The cost of replacing those is huge compared to the few bucks it would cost to have the amps built with quality components in the first place. Custom shop and masterbuilt guitars are currently the only decent quality products from Fender, but those are seriously overpriced.
