Lol this is the deer in the cemetery where my mom and dad are. My dad died 12 yrs ago and my mom insisted that we only take real food and real flowers so the deer can eat.. before we go my daughters and I clean out the refrigerator and bring whatever was going to get thrown out. Now that my mom is gone we go a little more often. The deer know my car they come up to me and let me pet them and eat out of my hand. In March which was the first visit after a long cold winter I was putting food out and cake since it was Daddy's Birthday and one of the deer was impatient and kept nudging me out of the way to get to the food. I said can you at least wait until I sing happy birthday he looked at me and snorted and walked a few feet away and as soon as I was done he was right there pushing me out of the way it was funny

Now he’s going to run back and tell all his woodland friends. “He’s real! He’s real!!! I met the veggie fairy!!! He was putting out the veggies 🥗!! I told you he was real!!”
Yep! They are diggers so they often dig out things like the support for sheds and foundations, and their teeth constantly grow so they need to gnaw on things. Groundhogs are from the same scientific family as squirrels and chipmunks too!

Yep these guys still run too, at least most of them do, it took a few months before they started coming up to me like this, and they still usually run first. All their fat flopping around as they do.

A few weeks ago, it was momma and five babies, but I've not seen mom in a little while now, and around this time of year the babies move out and create their own dens. The father groundhog was coming around during spring, but I've not seen him since the babies were born.

It always amazes me how naive and unafraid the baby groundhogs are!
These guys are still scared of me and still frequently run away, but they are warming up to being around me.
