- Took a video of an encounter between a neighborhood cat and groundhog in my neighbor's backyard. He was eating carrots surrounding the cat, and it turns out that there was even one under him and he went for it! But then he kept checking for more. Added music just for fun :) Sorry about the shakey camera at times :S

That is hilarious! The groundhog just knew there was another carrot there, but he wanted to be as polite as possible to get the cat to move over a little bit, so that he could get that last carrot! It's nice to see how tolerant they are of each other(for the most part).

I've had the pleasure to have been surrounded by 3 to 6 cats until I went off to college. A cat found me in college, first day. My mother put a cat in my crib. Had another cat who only ate what she killed, never cat food. Never came in the house. Had another who never left the house. Had a male cat who went after dogs. It goes on and on. Every cat is very different, if you take the time to get to know each one. I love dogs too. More maintenance but we had a few of them too, so I know the deal. I miss them all, swear I won't let another break my heart and one finds me and the circle begins anew...
Cute video - I had no idea groundhogs liked carrots that much. That cat was so patient with him.
These two obviously know each other, and have decided co exist. You can tell they aren't best friends, but they don't see each other as a threat either.

The worst thing is that this day is repeated for the cat over and over again. The cat always wakes up to 'I Got You Babe' by Sonny and Cher and then this carrot situation happens. This cat has experienced this identical event so many times that it has learnt to play the piano, saved a man from choking and taken up ice sculpture.

Because people hunt for train wrecks. They wanted to see a fight. People like fights, like UFC/Boxing /Roosters etc. Those people suck. Studying their behavior shows a lot about each animal not necessarily each species.
This cat and groundhog are obviously familiar with one another. The shrill comments here are pathetic. That cat wouldn't be so chill if it hadn't been around the hog before. Same goes for the groundhog.

I had a family under the garage but now there's only one medium-sized one. He comes out in the morning and an hour or two before the sun comes up. I know the neighborhood cats have taken interest in him.

Some years ago, I noticed a dug out area to the right of my shed door. At some point after that I noticed a strange looking animal that I had never seen before by the shed. I thought it resembled a beaver, but now I think it may have been a groundhog.

We have a big old male groundhog that has been living under the backyard shed for at least five years now, and we have two adult female cats. I have yet to see any interaction between these animals. They seem to co-exist and leave each other alone. There may have been an encounter or two that i just never saw.
If I were to guess the cat logic in operation there it's prob'ly along the lines of "too big to readily hunt" + "not threat" + "not competition" = "/care"
