      I'm concerned about animals eating dry oats. They swell in water. The stomach could expand too much. Grains aren't always good, particularly processed grains. Also, baked, rotisserie or fried chicken is dangerous. Cooked chicken bones are not soft. They are brittle and splinter and can kill animals when they choke on the splinters.

    At 9 minutes 15 crows arrive, earlier it was just one or two. No other feeders bring their mates! Tells you lots about how social crows are.
    The CAW CAW cries we are so familiar with are amazingly accompanied by a dipping/bowing behaviour that is mirrored by others in the group. It’s fabulous behaviour that I’ve be er seen before, but now I’ll be imaging it every time I hear that strikingly loud CAWCAW.
    Mostly though it’s shy, careful delicate deer.
    Slow TV.. but one needs to remember it’s still massively speeded up by the editing process.
    Nature is slow slow, so much no show, and then fabulously animated intensity till they go, go, go..

      Feeding deer in winter can paradoxically create malnutrition -- the deal is that they switch their stomachs over in the winter to be able to eat the bark available, but if you feed them out of season foods they never make the switch, so then they can't get nutrition as well from what's available naturally. I didn't know this until recently, either, but it's a really good reason not to supplemental feed.

    • @lotharschoebel2646
      @lotharschoebel2646 2 месяца назад

      . As long as the supplemental feeding is not done on a regular basis but only as an occasional treat it should do no harm.

    • @Ryan-zv6xw
      @Ryan-zv6xw 2 месяца назад +4

      @@lotharschoebel2646 Depends. If it prevents a switch to the winter gut biome it can stop the deer from digesting the winter foods available and cause hunger. I won't exaggerate and say that means a bunch of dead deer, but if the point is to make them happy and a little healthy then even periodic winter feeding is counter to that goal. I would assume a half apple once in three months is probably not a problem, but putting out grain in fall even a few times is probably hurting them instead of helping them, and obviously people putting out the grain are doing it because they think it will help.

      Deer have a varied diet.
      In spring they eat old softened acorns, and fresh sprigs of grass.
      Kicking away dry old leaves. Deer have ancient trekking "roads" through the landscape.
      Parent deer teach their young, as they move around.
      Too bad if you've built a flower bed in their way.
      They'll just eat your tulips and daffodils, and call it lunch...

      Our local farmers would feed the roedeer in winter.
      With loads of hay, and carrots.
      A family of roedeer, (6 - 8 animals), would sleep on a large rock shelf in our garden. ❄️⛄️🦌🦌🦌❄️

    My Mom taught me everything is hungry in this world. So every night after dinner, we’d walk the non protein scraps down to the woods with a flashlight. We had a certain spot we left it in. And the next night it was gone. She brought grain and corn by the big bags to feed the critters also. I am thankful she taught me empathy through her love of animals and people.
    Growing up in MN, critters may have lived through the cold night with food in their bellies.
    Bless you!

    Those crows! 😆
    I live in the U.K. on the edge of some common land. There are hundreds of crows and jackdaws in this area. Every morning at dawn the crows and jackdaws have a ‘committee meeting’ altogether in a bank of tall trees. There is a lot of ‘discussion’, but there is always one crow voice above the rest and one jackdaw voice above the rest. Then after their meeting, all the crows fly off one way and sort of split up as they go (in family groups?) and the jackdaws fly off the other way in the same fashion. I’ve seen this probably hundreds of times by now. It never fails to fascinate me that they do this. I would LOVE to know what they are talking about!!! 😁
    Thank you for all you share. 💝 Subbed because this channel is a joy. 😊

    March can be a difficult time for the wildlife. Usually there is still snow on the ground here in Vermont. We do what we can without encouraging the wildlife to count on us for food.
