New Year's Day 2025
Celebrating the start of a year of the national Rail 200 Celebrations, Marking 200 Years of Train Travel, Ffestiniog Railway Number 4 Palmerston and National Trust owned Quarry Hunslet Hugh Napier represented the Ffestiniog Railway at Porthmadog Harbour station took part (abliet a few of minutes late) in the Rail 200 Whistle-Up.
The locomotives were in steam to move with some of the Victorian Carriages to Glan-y-pwll yard for the winter for storage and ahead of photo charter action in the Spring, and are captured in the changing weather on their trip along the line.
Hugh Napier wasn't the only Hunslet in action in Portmadog, with NWNGR Hunslet Russell being in steam on the Welsh Highland Heritage Railway taking part in the Whistle Off, which could be heard across Porthmadog at 12noon. On the Ffestiniog the day's Mountain Spirit trains to Blaenau Ffestiniog were hauled by the Penrhyn Ladies with Blanche and Linda double heading the two services, seeing in the woods just after Cei Mawr, departing Tanygrisiau and arriving into Tan-y-bwlch (were I joined the afternoon train fro a quick trip to Blaenau and back).
Diesel Criccieth Castle was in action on a morning line inspection run and later bringing a South African B Wagon into Harbour station which is captured in the video.
