The wonder of Scotland and a steam railways. Huge thanks to all those that built the railway and the photographers that spend their time in the bracken!
This truly is a piece of art. No background music, narration, or anything else to distract the viewer. Just stunning settings, and the sound of railroading 's past. I think my favorite segment starts at about 8:50. It is of a train pulling a grade over a long trestle and around a curve. Magnificent.
Thanks very much Jim. I think music on railway videos is hated by the majority of enthusiasts, the sound of hard working locos is enough for me. The shot you mention was filmed at Rannoch Viaduct, a wonderful lonely spot.
I have watched a lot of videos about steam trains, but this sets the bar at a new height. The clarity of the picture and sound is incredible. There were a couple sequences where I wasn't watching a video; I was right there standing in the field. Wow!
Thank you very much for your very kind comments. Looking at these shots always takes me back to the time I was filming them in that wonderful clean air
This is far and away the best railway footage I have seen. Should have been on this beautiful railway in a week's time but the lockdown has put paid to that,at least I have risen it before. Please continue with videos of this quality.Stay safe.
Absolutely brilliant footage, calm, subtle, very nice sound too which often ruins nice footage, fantastic set in the Scottish landscape. Watched it in one go in awe!
The Double Header clip reminded me of the trains we had being pulled over Shap on the way to our summer holidays in Scotland when I was a child. Great work and a wonderful way to see the trains in the fabulous landscape. Lots of happy memories too. Thank you.
Thank you very much for your kind comments. When I film on Shap these days I often long for a time machine to go back to the days of steam! We used to go to the West Country on holiday so my childhood memories are of gleaming Great Western locos with their highly polished copper and brass
Beautiful wonderful memories of my youth can smell the steam the interior the seats the happy family days of of a boy in wonder when leaving the dirty city for wide open spaces for summer holidays thanks for uploading this magical little piece of our cultural past.
Thanks very much Peter. I can relate to those childhood memories as it was a great adventure for me to be leaving Liverpool for Devon by train for family holidays.
Magnificent! Great filming and amazing sound quality, even during the long telephoto sequences. One of the few videos that has really captured the feelings of remoteness and huge vistas of the wild Scottish landscapes. Loved the wheelslip on the double-header! Thanks a lot for sharing.
watched this while we ate dinner, it was a serenade to our ears and a visual symphony for our eyes, thank you from ex pat rail fan in New Zealand and I have been on that line a long time ago :) .
I think it is one of the best steam videos that I've watched. I love the spectacular and stunning views of the West Highland. It's so beautiful and natural that you can't find anywhere in the world. Thanks for sharing.
I've watched many steam videos but this has to rank with the best of them, if not the actual best. Truly splendid with some stunningly beautiful clips - not just the steam part, but the selection of viewing points and that spectacular scenery. Thank you.
Thank you very much for your kind comments. It's surprised me how well the video has been received. The wonderful scenery of course provides such a magnificent backdrop
I twice went on hiking vacations in the Highlands, Skye, Lewis & Harris.....took the train from Stirling to Ft. Williams, we had to have gone through some of this area.It was not on a steam train but the country was so beautiful. At one spot that seemed to be in the middle of nowhere the train stopped to let off a fisherman and I was told they would pick him up on the way back. These were the first train trips I ever took, what a great way to travel........thanks so much......
Many thanks Peter. I'd really love to travel over the full West Highland line behind steam. I often think it would be nice if passengers could travel when the empty stock goes up for The Jacobite. I'm sure it would sell out even though you'd have to make your own arrangements for the return
I've watched a lot of your videos, but this..., this is something else!!! I'm a huge GWR fan but outside of the GWR I think my favourite British steam locomotives are the Black 5's. Stanier was onto something when he and his draughtsmen designed them! This is too good for a small screen - this should be on a DVD and be being watched on a good sized TV with appropriate sound! 😍😍😍
Thanks for your kind comments. Mr. Stanier did learn his trade at Swindon of course! I'd be happy to put a copy onto a DVD if you like. Just let me know and I'll give you my email address so you can send your details. I'm on holiday at present but can certainly do it when I get home
Magnificent Austin. I think I remember just about all the shots from the first time round, but they still make up into possibly the best video this year. Bravo. Noel
Thanks very much Noel. A couple of the clips from the 2013 charter are slightly different angles from previously as we had so many runpasts but nothing new on the Jacobite clips
An absolute joy to watch, Austin. Thank you for the privilege of being able to watch such a wonderfully 'complete' compilation... more than once! Kind regards, Bob.
Second only to a squadron of Spitfires over the white cliffs of Dover. What a beautiful set of clips. Man you got the angles and the weather just right. Really beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching. Yes, I've been fortunate enough to get quite a few shots of the K1 up there and both her and the Fives make a superb sound climbing the gradients

Have to admit that 'Smell-a- vision' would be very appealing! We've been very fortunate with weather on our visits to Scotland, with 2012 being a highlight with clear skies and very cold temperatures. The lochs were so still with a little mist above them, quite magical
Thing is Austin no one could possibly understand the complexities of shooting a film like this until you’ve actually been there and realise it could be sunshine one minute, pouring with rain and 90 mph winds the next with perhaps a dash of snow and then back to sunshine. And that’s ALL within 25 minutes on a Scottish summers day! 😆😆😆😆 Thank you again for such an amazing film though mate! John

@@acw71000 I can recomend a two volume book by a senior draughtsman called 'Under Ten CMEs' written by E A Langridge and published by Oakwood Press. It covers a career stretching from Drummond to Harrison 1912 to 1959. It helps to know a bit about locomotive parts and workshop techniques. But I am sure you do. Longridge designed the bogies for Class 24 and 25 for example and lots, lots more. A real insider's view.... with over forty references to Coleman.

You have captured some fabulous footage over the years . I really enjoyed watching this. We have been watching this Jacobite train for over 20 yrs while visiting the West coast each spring and autumn. You mention part of the track will be closed in October ! When will it be affected ? We are going durung the first week . Thanks for sharing this footage :D Teddy
Many thanks for your kind comments. I believe the closure is from 5th. to 14th. October whilst repairs are carried out on the Auch viaduct which is on the lower section of the West Highland between Crianlarich and Fort William. As far as I know services between Fort William and Mallaig aren't affected
Slightly odd but we knew it had that whistle fitted by the owner. I did read somewhere which loco it had been on originally but can't remember now. Thanks very much for watching

Excellent compilation.

You are very welcome . Thank you for that info .
How absolutely beautiful.

Must have been odd hearing a black 5 with a chime whistle (12:32)
Slightly odd but we knew it had that whistle fitted by the owner. I did read somewhere which loco it had been on originally but can't remember now. Thanks very much for watching
All I will say is awesome from NZ love it.
