    Thank you!!!
    If you're looking for a winch bumper, I have a new video out here: • $500 4th Gen 4Runner O...
    Most of us have been putting off getting an offroad bumper for our 4Runner because of one thing, PRICE. That issue has finally been solved! With upcoming brands release bumpers at such incredibly low prices for other trucks, we had to figure out a solution. That solution is a cusotm mod, and probably one of the easiest mods there is in this category. With some VERY minimal modification, such as trimming and drilling a couple holes, you can fit a 2nd Gen Tacoma front bumper on a 4th Gen 4Runner. It fits like a glove! This is by far the cheapest bumper for 4th gen 4Runner that simply bolt right on with minimal added effort. Anyone can do this in their driveway with some very simple and common tools.

    Buddy!! Great video. The thing that stands out the most is that it’s all bolt no weld for that price. That being said, the addition cost not added. MOVE bumpers are cheap too, but needs weld at that price. The tax and shipping are a key. The bumper is 395 but $100 ship plus tax. Regardless, this is damn good. Would like to see more radiator coverage at the bottom bit easy to make additional plate.

    • @dillansgarage

      I’ve definitely thought about adding a plate at the bottom. Thinking of ways to do it that doesn’t require fab work since most people doing this bumper aren’t fabricators. I’ve definitely looked at move and even considered trying one out now that they have a slimmer style available

    @williambarrows9675 7 месяцев назад +4

    This is a good low budget option but anything less than 3/16 inch plate steel isn’t any better than the stock bumper, for impact protection. Once you cut off the brackets in front for the stock bumper you can never reinstall it. For only 250 more you can get a Coastal Offroad bumper kit that is incredibly strong. The kits also require no cutting of any body parts or brackets on the 4runner. Very informative video nonetheless. Also someone could weld on additional plate steel to the back of the bumper, if they don’t mind repainting afterwards.

    I keep seeing guys question the strength of the steel bumper. Did ya see what he removed. It was a POS square steel tube from the factory. There is no question that this bumper is at least as strong as what Toyota sold it with.
    My worry is how exposed the AC condenser is. Thats not a cheap fix when it leaks and the compressor craps out.
    Love the look of it tho

    • @dillansgarage
      @dillansgarage  7 месяцев назад

      Amen. It’s so funny to me when people talk about the quality.. I’m not sure how anyone’s can overlook that they’re comparing it to plastics and a little crash bar lol.
      The condenser is definitely a concern. I do plan to add a skid to cover that gap. Currently thinking of options that most people would be able to do. I could easily bend and weld in new steel, but that doesn’t help many people. The goal of the project was to make it very accessible.

    • @dillansgarage
      @dillansgarage  9 месяцев назад +1

      I am too! Ha it’s a good question. This is a very light, high clearance bumper. After removing the crash bar there seems to be some vulnerability to the bottom of the AC condenser and radiator. The steel is a little thinner than more expensive steel bumper which can be both good and bad. My thought is it will more likely crush under pressure more like a stock bumper, whereas a super heavy steel bumper is more likely to send the shock of impact to passengers rather than absorb it. It’s the same reason your airbags are more likely to deploy in a small fender bender when you have a heavy steel bumper. The sensors feel a more sudden impact due to the lack of absorption.

    • @dillansgarage
      @dillansgarage  9 месяцев назад

      This bumper is more about being affordable and high clearance rather than being ultra tough and heavy.

    • @dillansgarage
      @dillansgarage  8 месяцев назад +1

      @@Boreganic I’ve pondered this same question. When I think about it, two things come to mind. 1. I removed the crash bar and now there isn’t seemingly not much where that was. Although the crash bar is not exactly that beefy, it’s something for protection at the frame horn height.
      2. 95% of the the original is plastic so there’s zero protection from the formed plastic meaning the crash bar is the only substantial protection.
      So it’s not like this is a $2k bumper with 1/4” steel and weighs 250 lbs. But I also can’t imagine this is much different than just the crash bar.

    • @dillansgarage
      @dillansgarage  9 месяцев назад

      Good question. It feels very sturdy when I bang on it with my hands and push on it. But being 1/8” plate all around it’s not exactly the most robust bumper. That’s why I plan to add some reinforcement when I mod in a winch plate. This video was about the cheapest bumper, not the best, so can’t really expect to compare to something that weighs 2-3x more. I would normally do my modifications before install but I wanted to show it start to finish with basic tools. I only plan to add rigidity around the area where the crash bar was. I appreciate it not being “too strong” as I also respect crumple zones.

      Thank you. It’s very sturdy. It’s all 1/8” plate so not as robust as bumpers made with 3/16 and 1/4 plate. But it also weighs half. I guarantee it sturdier than the plastic bumper I took off lol
      It’s not intended to be a direct replacement for the heavier duty bumper you get for $2,500. It’s a super budget option. Some modification could make really strong. But there’s a lot of people who are just looking for better clearance and approach angles on a budget, this is for them.

    • @dillansgarage
      @dillansgarage  9 месяцев назад +1

      With most metal bumpers yes. This one is less than half the weight of a lot of other bumpers so the affect on your suspension will be minimal. If you already have sagging front springs, then you’ll want new coil anyway. This bumper is only 78lbs. An ARB bumper without the winch is closer to 200lbs and would definitely cause sag on the front end.

      A traditional steel bumper will weigh about 120 pounds without winch. No mods are necessary to the front struts unless they are already worn out. I am pleasantly surprised that this bumper weighs 78 pounds. That’s a lot of metal for 400 dollars, already painted.
