galaxy note edge may have truly something different. I just dont think it has enough to reach the mainstream but I could be wrong I am eager to see how this does.
I personally see the potential in this phone and it was topping list of potential new phones for me. Unfortunately the Nexus 6 and its top of the line specs and the promise of pure Android goodness has bumped the Note Edge from its perch.
This is very, very, VERY cool!
I'm perfectly happy with my Galaxy Note 4, but this would have been my second pick!

What about the nexus 6
since most people are right-handed, there's a switch to a sensor in settings to determine if it is your palm or your finger that's touching the curved display screen. but if you're a left-hander, there's another switch that you can use to accommodate your master arm. after turning that switch on, you can physically turn the phone upside-down and use it as per normal since there'll be the 'back' and 'recent apps' buttons on-screen, and the curved edge will be on your left instead of your right.

This handset isnt meant for the faint of heart. If you don't like spending money or can't meet the requirements to purchase then step to the left. I applaud ***** who showed this product on stage at CES 2013 now it's here. This helps to continue the legendary GOLD STANDARD the Galaxy Note products have become Worldwide since 2011. The pretenders the Apple iPhone 6 plus and that silly boring stock android featureless phablet the Nexus 6 are total jokes compared to any Note product.
The OPO is still better tho.

The Note Edge is a cool looking device. The OPO is another cool phone, but nothing beats the Nexus 6. I guarantee you if Samsung made another Nexus, then Richard would jump on board just because is Samsung.
The nexus 6 lost me at the size and price. Its a good phone. But thats just over kill.
Austin, I think the size is awesome if you're a person who watches a lot of RUclips videos, use Netflix, and play a lot of games. If you just use your phone for texting, emails, social media, then the size is an overkill.

Samsung is the most innovative and a quality brand than any other phone-makers of the market. Nothing compared to those Chinese phones like the Xiomi or Hwawei.
Great phone maybe this phone will change how we think of smartphones. Thank you SAMSUNG.
They're called ear-tips, and they're not for in case if you lose your original tips, they're there for if your original tips are either too large of small for you.
I'm all for innovation, but I really don't see the point in this particular phone. I've already ordered the Note 4, and I'm pretty sure I'm not going to regret that I didn't wait for this instead. But I am excited to see Samsung finally using this curved screen technology, it's going to be interesting to see what it will bring in the future.
Look on Yt at the Samsung CES 2013 and think about Galaxy Round and note Edge and think what's next :)

I'm loving my iPhone 6 plus, came over from the note 2. People hate on Samsung but they are never scared to try new shit! That's what I like about them!
As much as I want to like this device, I don't see myself using the curved display often but I haven't got my hands on one yet. Stuck with the 4. I do think that it looks great and will grab bystanders attention when using it.
Samsung gets praised for doing this but if Apple did this it would be a different story

This is a demonstration what Samsung is able to do, as best screen manufacturer world wide. Of course such a device is so far rather uncommon, but maybe we will see more variations with screens in future.

If you can minimize or pull up the task bar on the side so right handed users can use it and not hit buttons by mistake then I'm all the way in. Which is why I will be visiting t-mobile tomorrow to see it for myself once it becomes available! 😊 it would be nice to have the extra storage capacity and all the benefits of the s5 and note 4! Cannot wait!
I heard..from a rep that the Edge is a bit slower than the Note 4 and the front facing camera isn't as good. I know the specs are practically identical but that is what made me choose the NOTE 4...LOVE IT!!
It's weird that in a video show casing a Samsung Note Edge that people are still talking about the iPhone. Stop being so bitter it's a phone, some people prefer iOS some people prefer Android. For people who want the most tech and most up to date technology Android devices offer a good range of devices, but for smoothness, quality and userbility iOS and the iPhone 6 is still the best phone. No it doesn't have widgets, no you can't install a custom OS and no it's not that different. That is because iOS is more or less perfect, it's for people who want to functions of a smart phone but the simplicity and reliability of a Mac. I personally use both platforms. I've had all the nexus products dating back to the Nexus 4 and they are great, they offer more features than my iPhone 6, but for smoothness, everyday use, quality and most other things the iPhone is still the best phone.
So stop being so anti android or iOS. Why can't you just embrace all technology no matter what the logo is.

I like the experimentation. Sometimes things come of gimmicky or start new trend. This one is hard to tell until you try it.
Where is the Galaxy Note 4 Dorp test? I figured Android Authority would have already have one by now. I would also like to see one on the Note Edge too.
There's no mistake with innovation. Whether you like this device or not, the innovation alone will further improve all of our future handsets. When designers and engineers think outside of the box, the first, second and maybe even third edition may be faulty and gimmicky, but the final product could be something of amazement. If not from Samsung, then other manufactures could refine this technique. If all else fails and this type of screen is not productive, then it's a success in helping other manufacturers determine this is not and should never be an option on a handset. But unlike Apple, at least phone manufactures that use the Android platform are spinning out dozens of incredible, albeit some not useful, devices to choose from. Android = Choices. Apple = A Choice.
i bought this for 290$ yesterday , lol i already used note 4 5 7 but always wanted to use this and its nice
Guys you have to first know that the cost for this varies. Tmobile will sell it for $870, sprint for $840, and AT&T for $945. Verizon might sell it even cheaper because they also sold the note 4 for a good amount cheaper than the other carriers. Also, this phone is not a gimmick. The fact that it uses the curve to its advantage is actually really good and it's not "just curved". I always say this can be the start of something new just like the galaxy note back in 2011 was the start of phablets

I was going to get a Note 4 as an upgrade, but I was looking at the pricing and it cost me $4.00 extra per month to buy the Edge so I thought why the hell not. Tbh the side bar is useful especially when I don't want to go to the homescreen while watching Netflix.
This phone is unique. it could be game changer. People said the same thing when the Galaxy Note first came out and it was larger than anything on the market at the time. "A gimmick! Who's going to use that?" Now look at the Note lineup today. I see a future with the Edge but this is the first generation and I never buy anything first gen. Better to wait for the second generation but I'm sure it's still a good phone.
Please take a note that (No pun intended) the brightness was WAY to high, please adjust it as soon as you power on the phone, It makes it easier to see text and is also pleasing on the eyes.
I am right-handed phone user so, this might be a disaster for me. Samsung did a great job doing something new and elaborate the idea so it can be improved someday. Good job to Samsung!

Nexus 6 or Note 4. Now that we are positive lollipop is coming to the note 4, the choice is a little less obvious. It all comes down to one question: Are you willing to give up all those samsung gimmicks that may be useful at some point, a better camera, the spen, removeable battery, and sd card for stock android, and front firing speakers?
I think if it curved at the bottom it would be a lot better since it would be a lot less in the way, it's more convenient for both lefties and righties, and it wouldn't make the phone so wide.
It's actualy the same width as the note 4 i belive (not 100%, but i think it just uses a bit of the 2560x1440p display rather than adding more screen.)
NoisyPixels the note edge is actually about 4 millimeters wider and I think you're right it looks like it takes a bit of the normal screen.
on the samsung note 4 model number SM-N910W8 quick start guide page 21-22 it says the note 4 meets requirements of classification IP67 water and dust reistant!

This phone was never made to compete with anything lol, so screw you guys if you're saying "the nexus 6 is better" or something. It was made as an innovation, product development, to see whether there is a market or a demand for such a product in the smartphone market.
Instead of "Different" or "weird" why not call it "Innovative" or "Creative"... everyone on tech sites always critcizes Samsung design choices, but when they give us something new, it is always treated with defamatory rhetoric!

I will wait for the S6. The rumours are that the S6 will have on the both side of the screen (left and right). This edge looks for me a concept. The S6 will be better if we compare with this i think.

Totally don't see this being useful. Even the outgoing Galaxy S4 and S5 has the ability to give you quick notifications using their Galaxy case with the clear see-thru window. I forgot the manufacturer, but it made sense to have something like this on laptops because you don't have to open up the 15" screen in order to glance at your notifications. With a phone, even to see the notifications on the side, the phone is already in your hands with the 5" screen already in plain sight.
So what about the metal clip and little plastic pins that came in the box with it?

wtf, Samsung couldn't put this notification panel on touchwize ?? it could have taken a small part of the screen, but it could have been a very easy option to include. this is why samsung is reporting a huge loss to their shareholders
The Note edge would more better if Samsung add the curve screen on the left side as well.
Check out the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. It has both sides curved.

Samsung tried something new. Most people dislike it, some like it. Fuck I love the taste of apple juice.
I feel like the edge will be more of a burden than a benefit. As a right handed user I feel it would be awful because I would end up triggering random things.

After seeing that battery size. I highly disappointed that the note edge will not last for a day due to it's screen size.
But this isn't the US version.

I personally would find it difficult to hold this phone as I think I would keep opening apps on the edge. Sorry samsung, it's a nice idea but not for me.

well.. yes, it's a unique design.
but, seems that Samsung just moved it's sidebar functions to the very very edge.
not so revolutionary. I've got this atmosphere from BlackBerry 10, in the HUB mode, or easy sneak peak when it's unlocked just by swipe and touch.
i prefer Nexus 5/6 than Samsung EDGE
